David Tennant (10th doctor) wakes up in place of the supposed 13th Doctor regen.

so does that mean doctors 11-13 never happened like a dream sequence from the 1980's with I Dream of Jeanie's Larry Hagman?

Thus he still has 2 more regens to go for his final 12th?

I updated my post with links that tries to explain it.

Picard season 3 is supposed to be good. It has less Alex Kutrzman involvement, so that may be why.

So far it's MUCH better then seasons 1&2. (damning with faint praise? )

Still way too much "fan service" BS though.

Ran out of Star Trek, so I started watching The Orville. It's better Trek than Discovery is, and the crew's more competent.

I actually really like The Orville, although the last season was a bit more somber & stretched out than the previous fun seasons.

The part where Isaac amputates Gordon's leg was hilarious lol

Finished Season 4. It definitely got...weird when they jumped time. I stuck it out to the end...at least until they release the final season.

Good lord, Discovery came out 6 god damn years ago.
Did it ever get good? I gave up very early. Too annoying.

No! It's the fucking worst thing ever. I suffered through four seasons due to my Catholic upbringing, which gave me patience for sitting through bullshit. My patience has worn out. I wil not be watching s05.

It has its good moments, and it has its cringe moments. The good moments are few and far between. If you love cringe, this is the show for you.

What, you guys don't think that by understanding our true feelings and giving full expression to them we can transcend our own humanity - and hence become the most kickass Star Trek ever??

I don't do illegal drugs, but this show would probably have been 10 times better on shrooms.

i quit in the middle of last season.
should have quit 2 years ago.

they're centuries ahead of us. then they time jump to the 30th century.
yet they're still doing point and shoot phaser fights. no auto-targeting?
No continuous phaser stream like the Ghostbuster's proton packs?

they're running away. why not just hold the phaser down and move your hand left to right?
why are they still using phasers like it has bullets?

If only it was those miniscule problems you bring up.

The writers attempt to make emotional connections to characters/events that many people never build connections to. The writers go full steam ahead with those completely unrelatable story arcs anyway. They want everyone in various social situations represented. Many times it comes off as full-on cringe.

Does Star Trek Voyager ever get good? I didn't watch it when it was "new" on TV. Tried S1E1 today...made it MAYBE 15 minutes before I had to turn it off. Bad acting, terrible script.

I never could get into ST:TNG back in the day...and never watched ST DS9 either.

I like Voyager. It's weaker than TNG and DS9, but I found it enjoyable. If you don't care about completism, watch Scorpion s03e26 & s04e01. Seven of Nine comes in on the second part, and rejuvenates the show.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Scorpion's the name of the Voyager 2 part episode. Seven of Nine Tertiary Adjunct Of Unimatrix Zero One makes her appearance in part 2, but only watching the second part of a two part show's retarded.

I disliked the series as a whole, especially season 1, but they had some damn good episodes once in a great while. Ideas that never made it to the other shows.

Well, they aren't making a documentary, they are making a ST show and it has to still look like one, they can't change fundamental things, I get it.
I get your point as well but this isn't a random sci-fi show.
I quit a few episodes after red angel went to the future.
They really needed more than just one main character from the get go, the bridge crew was always the focus on every ST show ever, sure they would focus on the captain and a couple of the others more but they would focus on all of them so if you didn't like one of them you could still find someone you did like and get enough story with that character.
Burnham is just unlikable in the show and there is not enough story about anybody else.

So...out of sheer boredom, I started watching ST:TNG a couple of nights ago. So far, I'm through S1E4. Wow...how the hell did this stuff become so popular? Acting is mediocre at best...and the scripts are terrible. (S1E4 was the first of the Ferengi episodes...where they jumped around like a bunch of monkeys with cattle prods stuck up their asses) TERRIBLE!

S01 was generally weak. Maybe you don't like Star Trek, or at least anything that isn't TOS. I've seen everything except the animated series, and I find stuff I like in all of them except Discovery. Grudge the cat, and Tig Notaro aren't enough to redeem that one.

As...off as Discovery is/was, the acting and scripts are (for the most part) significantly better than TNG so far. I also kind of liked Strange New Worlds. Definitely different than the usual ST stuff, but not terrible. As for TOS...it was hella good...in 1966-69 when it was "New and exciting!", but over the years, its weaknesses and failings have become obvious....scripts, acting, and most especially, sets and props. Still...they did pretty well considering what they had to work with back then.

TNG gets exponentially better if you stick with it.

So I've been told...I hope so.
it does but remember that while the trend is upwards there is some variance in story and production value quality.

the first season is rough as they were still under roddenberry's direction and some of that 60's era tv story sensibility made for some real cheesy plots.

after he passed on the control of the series to someone else there was some turmoil in production leading to a rough second season (dr pulaski) but there were a handful of really significant episodes in there.

by the third season that is when things fell in to place and they really started telling some compelling stories. season 4 and maybe 5 continued this.

but by 6 and 7 the production staff was stretched thin by prep for starting up DS9, so some of the stories were meh and the seasons were 50/50 on good vs stinkers. by then everyone was invested in the characters so they tolerated it and they ended it on a nice note.

then they burned all that goodwill with the Picard show. i have posted a few RedLetterMedia videos in the Picard thread. you can hold off watching the show to see if they can pull off the crash landing that kurtzman has wrought with the season 3 showrunner change.

Just look at the alternatives...all well loved shows but also all well crapply.
You watched them because you bonded with the characters.

During the ST:TNG years, I was working 6 days a week...10-12 hours per day. I watched very little television...except NFL football and some (not much) baseball. Of the shows on that list, I maybe watched a couple of episodes of a half dozen of those.
