Since "Enterprise" was mentioned...
I just rewatched a Season 1 episode called "The Andorian Incident".
Jeffrey Combs is in it. It's the first time humans and Andorians meet.
I would defy anyone who thinks STD is a good series to name a single episode as good as this.
When something like "The Orville" is more true to the Trek spirit than the "official" series, you have utterly failed to understand your product and what it's supposed to do.

sadly discovery was a compromised endeavour from the start.

the original show runner Brian Fuller(a writer on DS9 and Voyager) wanted to do an anthology series which would jump around different settings/times each season like American Horror Story. the studio wasnt ready to go there so they parted ways with Fuller. https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/29/...terview with Entertainment,[did] for horror.”

the beginning of season 1 had the thoughtful, crafted flavor of Fuller's other projects and devolved from there as the new team took over. a star trek anthology could have been interesting and really built up a thought out galaxy, but would have been a budget nightmare when it came to sets and constantly changing casts. so paramount execs axing that idea is sorta reasonable.

ding dong, ST:disco the long flogged horse is dead, but at least we got Strange New Worlds out of it.

budget nightmare
Instead, Discovery is a visual nightmare with samey sets.

Poor viewer's thoughts while watching the show: "Haven't I seen this before???"

I mean, Firefly had a single ship too but they kept the sets interesting enough and varied to not make it feel boring. And they probably did it with a far lower budget.

It isn't recurring sets that are the problem. Traditional Trek was mostly on a few rooms of a single ship, and it was great. Discovery has a bunch of problems that can only be fixed by a complete teardown.

It's funny... I have several SF writers on my FB friends list, and one of them, in particular, was adamant in defending STD as a good series... until this week, when he finally tossed the towel and admitted the idea of having a conference about someone's feelings in the middle of a battle is piss-poor writing and incredibly stupid.

TBH, I suspect he always disliked the series, but since he's got a lot of connections in Hollywood, he preferred to be diplomatic about it.
It's also incredibly difficult to be critical of a series where the main protagonist is a black woman, without being accused of racism.

It's not her fault the scripts are shit.

Good finale. There was a distinct finality to his episode than all other series finales.

The biggest problem is her character is also shit. She has a man's name, was supposedly raised by Vulcans but ends up crying every time she gets a chance, blunders into a war with the Klingons and has sex with one of their agents, and yet she's so important somehow... besides being the daughter of the Red Angel.

Burnham lacks the commanding, smoldering presence of Sisko, or the calm and charismatic style of Janeway. This is supposed to be a role model?
And it's not just her. Every single member of the crew is annoying, unlikable or lacking chemistry with others. Even Saru feels like a poor rehash of better aliens.

Alright. Alright. This was bad.

Wrapping up plot lines, just felt like the writers ran out of imagination and slammed the entire narrative into a barn door. Slam. Dead.

Not really bothered by the feels that trigger you guys but this ep was drenched in it. Its like it took over the plot.

I liked it well enough.
I like all Star treks , even DS9.

Using the pizza vs sex analogy, I'll interchange it here.

Star trek series are a lot like sex.
When it's good, it's very, very good.
And when it's bad, it's still pretty good.

Sex is over-rated

Primates get to enjoy it far more than us humans with their bony weapons of mass banging whereas humans gotta keep themselves in shape to even get theirs to perk up!

I liked the SNW musical much more than I thought I would. It was a fun one-off, but I wouldn't want to see a musical episode every season.
