From your comments above, we come from 2 different camps of ST fans. I really liked DS9, not for the tech of it, but from the political wrangling of the plot lines and the really well developed characters. I think that show really had some of the best ST episodes ever. Sure, every series has some stinkers
I actually didn't care for last season much. Overall, the arc was ok, but the performance on the individual episodes left much to be desired. The writing and B&B really just totally fugged up the series with the alien nazis. They admitted to just throwing that in there at the end and left the new guy (Coto) to figure out what to do with it at the start of this season. Hopefully this season, we can hear Mayweather say something besides "Aye"; Tpol stop being written as a "crackwhore". They could have had some interesting thing goin on with the Maco's, but they just dropped that whole line. The holes in plots and characters last season were just disappointing. Plus, I hate time travel/holodeck episodes so I find the temporal war just a cheap trick and copout for the writers. They seemed to finally put that to rest for the upcoming season from Storm Front 2 when Daniels is basically told to never come back.
I think Ent has been a let down for many ST viewers b/c it was a real chance to delve into the Romulan Civil War, founding of the Federation and Starfleet, Eugenic wars.... but none of this was ever talked about. Instead they got 2 seasons of flying around which has been all done better by every other series. The one thing this series had going for it was History, and instead, went and invented a made up thing about the Xindi which had never been in Trek history. Granted, I am not a canon freak, but I don't think it was good enough to carry for the entire season like it was planned.
I agree about Voy as meh. Everything on that was techno babble solutions. However, the doctor was probably the best character in that show as he had some freedom in his development and 7o9 was a lil too stoic for me to enjoy.
