Probably not many of you play this game since it is for mobile gaming. It is set in the Star Trek USS Kelvin Timeline and is described as a "free-roaming multiplayer Star Trek experience [combining] role-playing game style progression and real-time battles with enemy ships".

So, yeah I know, I'm kind of geeky, and I got stuck being Admiral of our alliance of 64 players. I'm trying to come up with a set of rules/guidelines for my alliance to follow in order to keep our star bases from constantly being attacked, and to also keep the game fun. If you have anything to add, please post them for consideration.

Rules - Don'ts:
1) No political or religious comments - It doesn't matter what your political opinion is, or what your religious beliefs are, it does NOT belong in this game or on our Alliance Chat. People have had enough of politics and religion in the news media and on other social platforms, so don't start the discussions here. This is supposed to be a fun and inviting game for everyone, regardless of your beliefs. Keep it off Alliance Chat, Galaxy Chat, and Private Chat. Other alliances don't have this policy, and if that is what you want, please go join another team.

You can see the nastiness of the political and religious statements on Galaxy Chat. Ignore it and do not join in. You can say pretty much anything you want, but if you bring political or religious content to Alliance or Private Chat, this is what will occur:
a) Your first offense will be a Private Chat, which will also point you to the alliance rules.
b) Your second offense will be a STERN warning via Private Chat, and a demotion in rank. You will be pointed to the rules again, with the statement of this is your second and final warning.
c) Upon your third offense, regardless of your rank, power level, or how it may affect our team, you will be sent a notice via Private Chat, then kicked from the alliance.
d) After you've been kicked from the team, no matter how many times you ask to rejoin the alliance, it will not happen. These rules may seem harsh, but we will not allow this type of behavior to effect the alliance, and you will have to live with these consequences.

2) Do not be nasty on Private Message, Galactic Chat, or Alliance Chat:
a) There are a few good players in the alliance in which I have no way of verifying their age. From some things that were posted, they seem to be in their mid teens.
b) For the most part, you do not know how powerful the player or alliance is of the person you are in contact with.
They may not only seek revenge on you but the whole alliance.

3) Espionage by an Alliance member for another alliance or for a friend will not be tolerated, and the punishment will be severe. See the post on espionage further below.

4) Do not raid a station of anyone who's alliances highest ranked player is greater than level 19.
Players typically at level 19 or above have spent a lot of $ on building up the power of their ships, which makes it almost impossible to withstand a counter attack.

5) Do not allow any player that is not within our alliance to poach the station we are raiding unless they ask for permission.

6) Do not poach another alliance's raid. If you want to join the raid, ask permission first. Doing so without permission will either get your ship/base destroyed, or may cause an attack on our alliance bases.

7) During a raid, do not send only miners to loot and no warships to help. Warships are needed to help crack the targeted base and defend your teammates.

Rules - Do's:
1) Always press the purple alliance help button when it appears on your screen. It costs you nothing to send help, and it reduces the time needed for alliance members ship repairs, station building, and research.

2) Contribute resources to the alliance. We are not going to put a hard rule on how much you contribute, but every contribution helps. It strengthens the alliance but it also expands the number of players allowed in the alliance. Give what you can afford to give.

3) Before looting a players ship or base, ensure the player's alliance is not one we have a non-aggression pact with (check the alliance announcement page for full list).

4) If the person's ship/base you raided contacts you. Be respectful at all times regardless of what they say.

Rules for Raiding:
1) When looking for a target to raid, be sure to check the following:
a) Ensure the alliance is not an ally by checking the announcement page for the full list.
b) The alliance considered for attack has a total power that is less than 8 million, or has no players that exceed 19 in Level.

2) Once a target is found and it seems ripe enough to warrant a group attack, post it on alliance chat and PM the Admiral.
a) Group raids will need to be authorized by the Admiral.
b) The finder of the raid must determine the Star System for staging ships prior to the raid.
c) It is the Admiral's duty is to discuss the attack with the other non-aggression pact alliances on discord to ensure there are no other treaties in effect, and to ensure there is no misunderstanding on why ships are staged in a particular star system.

3) The finder of the raid calls the style they wish to attack. Free-For-All or Line up. They also call who and when the auto shield is popped.

4) New members - It is the responsibility of the senior players on the raid to explain and coordinate the efforts of the noobie raider until they have a grasp of the rules of conduct.

Repeated violations of these rules puts the alliance at risk and will get you dropped from the team.

Espionage

This is a VERY touchy subject, but one that has to be addressed. In the Galaxy of Star Trek Fleet Command, every alliance is looking for every little edge that they can get on their competition, that will get their alliance into the top 10, and earn greater rewards for game play.
Let me give you an example of a type of espionage an alliance called REM implemented as their strategy:

They had key players talking to other alliances. Their talking points were along the lines of "I'm tired of this alliance and need a change", or "I'm sick of my team, can I join your alliance". These players had no intention on staying with their new teams. Once these players were promoted and reached the rank of Commodore, all hell broke loose. These players kicked every team member possible of the alliance they joined out of that alliance. We are talking 40+ players kicked by one guy in a single alliance. Then this player dropped out of that alliance and rejoined REM. Massive confusion set in. Everyone was not only angry at the REM player, but at the Admiral of that alliance for being duped by the one player from REM. This one particular alliance was a top 15 team, almost disbanded, lost key players, and is now struggling to get back to their previous ranking. Like I mentioned above, this happened to at least two teams, and the fallout will continue until all of those spies are identified and kicked out.

Another form of espionage can occur when a player on your alliance has a friend in another, with the simple idea of just helping their friend. Passing on information about how their current alliance is doing, the location of bases, and the location of key players. It sounds innocent enough, but in actuality it is very harmful to your current alliance. I will give you an example of what is currently happening on my team:

Our highest ranked in EVERY category player's location is somehow being tracked. Every system he enters, shortly afterwards, a contingent of equal or more powerful enemy alliance ships appear to confront him, or wait until he has a mining operation in progress and attack his ships. At first he thought he was being paranoid, but the more this went on, we decided that we have a spy among us. I hear what you are thinking, how can a player within your own alliance track your position? Actually, it is quite easy. All a player has to do is go into "Galaxy View" and look at the map. Every single Star System is displayed, and each one that has a purple person icon on it points to the location of all of your alliance members. If you are online and playing at the same time your teammate is, all you have to do is view these Star Systems, do a quick look for ships, and select the ships that are in view. This will give the information of which player is at that particular location. When the popup screen appears, you simply select the 3 stars, and the exact location will pop into your text dialog box. Then all that is left to do is send this location to the other team via Private Chat.

This type of behavior is frowned upon by all Alliances. We haven't found the spy as of yet, but punishment will be swift. We have posted messages on our Alliance Chat and on Discord. If the person comes clean now and admits what they did, all will be forgiven as long as they never repeat this mistake. If we find who the person is by other means, then the following will happen:

a) All alliances will be informed of who the culprit is that was spying on their own team. This will guarantee that no other alliance will even think about adding them to their team.

b) When this person is not online, the alliance will kick him or her.

c) A raid on this person's base will immediately occur and all resources possible will be taken from this person.

d) Attacking this person's base will continue until it will take an enormous amount of resources to rebuild his/her station.

e) All of this person's ships will be destroyed.

f) From that moment on, anytime this person's ships are spotted in the Galaxy, ships will be dispatched to destroy them. This will go on in perpetuity.

g) From that moment on, anytime we find this person's base within the galaxy, a task force will be deployed to destroy his/her base.

h) Any alliance that does add this person to their team will be notified of our intentions to destroy this individual, and if they do not kick this player, that alliance and its members will be added to the kill list. We will not only destroy his/her ships, but their ships on sight, and raid their star bases as well.

So basically, we will make this individual's life on this game a living hell. They can't simply change usernames, because every correspondence in alliance and private chat, the name automatically changes to the new name, and the history is not lost. We will always be able to find this individual until he/she starts from scratch. Their only recourse will be to delete the account, and start from scratch at the very beginning of the game with a new username. A lot of time, effort, resources, and money of this person will have been wasted for not.

Rules of Engagement (ROE):

1) Don't warp into a system and have a mining spot already selected. Someone within that system may take that spot before you get there. If they do, their ship may out match yours, and all you've done is travel for 4+ minutes to have a destroyed ship.

2) When mining, don't attack another miner just to get a mining spot. Look around, there maybe other spots available.

3) Don't hesitate taking a node that has 100 or less of an item you wish to mine. Once you deplete the remainder of that resource, move your ship off the node, go to galaxy view, then locate your ship, and move your ship back onto that node. The node will have reset to full resources available.

4) If no spots are available, look for ships that are sitting on Zero or depleted nodes. Send them a private message informing them of such, be courteous, and give them a minute to respond. If no response and your ship can defeat theirs, by all means, knock them off the node. Once the node is clear, move your ship off the node, go to "Galaxy" view, then locate your ship. The node will reset to full resources, then move your ship onto this node. Typically if you are knocking someone off a depleted node and you have sent them notification, your chances of being destroyed by them is greatly decrease.

5) Another acceptable method is to look for ships that are mining and that have exceeded their ship's safe storage limit(over protected cargo or opc). If your ship is more powerful, then by all means try and knock this ship off the node. Their ship is over protected cargo (opc) capacity, so the only thing they lose is the excess capacity. You win the battle and you win their excess cargo.

Tips:

1) Try to play at a time when the majority of players are online so both you and the alliance members can help each other instantly.

2) At level 14 and below, your station is safe from attack. Maximize all ships, do all research possible, build all station components possible, and stock up on all consumables prior to leveling up to level 15. Once you hit level 15, your station becomes available for attack.

3) Complete all missions that have mission rewards for plans for the Jellyfish Star ship prior to leveling above level 15. If you don't, you may be locked out of those missions and may not be able to build the Jellyfish for free.

4) This game still has a lot of bugs. I suggest that you restart this game every hour. If you don't, Galaxy, Alliance, and Private Chat will stop updating. Also, help requests from team members will no longer appear. After restart, there are usually several alliance help requests that will now appear.

5) Unless you are looking for a new alliance to join, or are trying to recruit players to your alliance, I suggest you only view the discussions on Galaxy Chat. Galaxy Chat isn't monitored and there are some real aggressively negative comments and people there. I see people all the time getting into verbal flame wars, and this is not the worst that can happen to you. People on Galaxy Chat will find your base, stalk your ships, and try and destroy both. If you want to chat, find a good active alliance and keep the talk limited to Alliance Chat.

6) The level of your ship determines what ships you can attack. A below level 10 ship can't be attacked. A level 10 ship can be attacked by levels 10 through 13. So the general rule is that until you reach level 17, 3 levels below and 3 levels above. So a level 13 ship can attack levels 10 through 16.

7) Once you reach Level 17, the rules change on what level ships can attack you. For instance, at level 17, I have been attacked by Level 23 ships. The range of attacks needs to be determined.

In App purchases Tips:

Just a MAJOR FYI, when making a large or small in app purchase, be aware that these purchases are NOT protected. I'll give you an example of what I just experienced. I made an in app purchase of the $79.99 in Packs to upgrade my base, ships, etc.. Before this purchase, my base had very little resources, and most of it was protected. After this purchase I did a few upgrades, but it was time for bed. I forgot to put the "Peace Shields" up on my station. In the overnight hours, my station was raided. I lost 3 million Parsteel, 400 thousand Tritanium, and 50 thousand dilithium. Other than the Latinum, speed ups, and refined materials, all of my purchase is gone. I can no longer do the upgrades that I was planning for my station. It is a lesson learned the hard way for me, and this will be the last in app purchase I will be making for this game. Hopefully this tip will keep you from making the same mistake. From now on I either I earn it by slogging through mining, etc., or I won't get it.

Mining:

OKay, you probably don't want to hear this, but mining is what you are going to primarily do in this game, and it is a major necessity. When I talk about mining, I'm talking about 2* Raw Gas, 2* Raw Crystal, 2* Raw Ore, 3* Raw Gas, 3* Raw Crystal, and 3* Raw Ore. Unless you purchase an expensive pack, there is no other way to obtain these materials other than mining. They can not be obtained by raiding other players bases.

The only materials that can be obtained through raiding are Dilithium, Parsteel, and Tritanium, although these can be mined as well.

Up until Operations level 20 and Refinery level 19, you only need to be concerned about mining 2* Raw materials. After you reach this level, you will only be able to refine one batch each of the 3* Raw materials every 9 hours, but you will still need to mine and refine 2* materials as well.

Once refined, these materials will be converted to two types; Common and Uncommon. Uncommon refined materials are the hardest to achieve in the quantities you need. You can spend up to a week mining in order to get enough of an uncommon material in order for you to upgrade a ship, complete a research item, or even level up your operations.

My suggestion would be to refine enough of each 2* raw materials to just get the process going, then mine enough to do the maximum number of batches for these materials. The reasoning behind refining the maximum batch is because you gain more uncommon refined materials than you do when you are refining one batch at a time.

So now do you get the picture of how much mining you will be doing? Yeah, quite a lot.

Here is my suggestions on how to run your operations:

1) With one drydock, you will start off having one ship in your inventory.
a) When not doing missions and you are away at work or going to bed at night, pick a mining spot and let just your ship mine.
b) When you obtain your second ship, do the same as "a" above, but let the ship with the best mining abilities do the mining.

2) When you obtain your second drydock, have one of your ships mining at all times and use the other to do your missions.

3) Once you obtain your 3rd drydock, unless you are going to raid someone's station, have two ships always mining, and one ship to complete your missions.

4) At some point, other than the daily missions, you will run out of the other missions that you can complete because the enemy ships are too strong. Complete the daily missions of killing enemy ships first, then switch to having 3 ships mining. This is the reason why I have one ECS Fortunate and two Envoys in my fleet. It allows me to have all 3 ships mining overnight while I sleep, and when I'm at work during the day. Do they get destroyed, sure, all the time. But you have to remember that each ship has a safe inventory level which you can't lose. So anything above that level is gravy.

5) Update 6/17/2019 - I can't stress enough for you to mine and stockpile Tritanium. You need Tritanium for all major ship upgrades and repairs, along with major station upgrades. I don't care how much you think you have, you don't have enough, and the higher level you progress, the more you will need it.

Other ways to obtain Dilithium:

There are solar systems that have hostiles (red ships) that after defeated, will drop dilithium into your ship's storage. Select the red hostile in that system and a pop-up will appear. On the cargo button for this ship there is a little "+" sign. Select it to inspect the cargo that it will drop. Depending on the level of this red ship, the number of items dropped will vary. For instance a level 12 red might drop 28 dilithium, where as a level 14 may drop 32.

For right now, I will list one system that drops dilithium that I use often. it is Opla(20) 81459 -4854, -380 . You will not only receive dilithium, but your ship will gain battle experience, and you can also obtain battle chests that can contain parts, plans, etc.

Others:
Bellas(12) 81250 -4832 -628 - Dilithium
Dhi'Ban(14) 1745143614 -4699 -55 - Dilithium and Parsteel
Willenia(28) 717782925 -4327 -45 - Dilithium, Parsteel, Tritanium

Crew Loadouts for mining:

Put these character cards on your bridge of your Fortunate, Envoy, or Botany Bay to increase your mining capabilities.

Helvia – Put this character card as your Captain when mining Parsteel and you will get a 40% increase Parsteel mining speed. Also, Helvia helps you move around the galaxy faster with 100% speed increase when your ship is empty. So when not mining Parsteel, have Helvia as a second bridge officer.

Gabish – Put this character card as your Captain when mining Tritanium. You will get a 90% Tritanium mining rate increase.

Domitia – Put this character card as your Captain when mining Dilithium. You get a 40% Dilithium mining rate increase.

Ston – Put this character card as your Captain when mining Ore. You get not only a 40% ore mining rate Increase, but your cargo size of the ship increases by 20%.

Barot – Put this character card as your Captain when mining Crystal. You get a 90% Crystal crystal mining rate increase.

T’Pring – Put this character card as your Captain when mining Gas. You get not only a 20% mining rate increase, but also you also get a Increase in your safe cargo protection by 50%. So if your safe cargo is 10K, T'Pring will increase that safe cargo to 15K.

Scotty Cadet - I know what you are thinking, "Scotty on a mining vessel, get out of here." I mention his character card for mining for the simple fact that Scotty may help get your ship where you need it to mine. I have a situation where I'm at Level 19, and most places I need to mine are normally out of range for a Fortunate, and I already have my Envoy mining elsewhere. Scotty will add a 3 warp range to any ship, so if you are left with needing to mine further out, and needing to use a second ship like the Fortunate to mine, put scotty on as a bridge officer.

List of SS Botany Bay Missions:

Make sure you visit the Augments Faction Store Daily to unlock 6 plans. The maximum plans you can unlock on the first day is 36 (30 mission and 6 Augment Faction Store). You can either gain 6 plans each 24 hours from the Augment Faction Store, or you can purchase the rest of the SS Botany Bay. Either way, you have to build the Botany Bay in order to unlock and travel to the Augments faction space that is gold in color. One drawback is that your Operations, R&D, and Shipyard must be level 18 in order to build the SS Botany Bay. Right now, the only thing you can do in Augment Space is mine Data Nodes, and fight enemy ships. Unless you build up the Botany Bay, you won't be able to complete missions in this region because the enemy ships are too powerful. So, as in other Faction Spaces, it will take you time to complete.

1) Lycia (14) 1203174739 -4649, -5 or Astrida (14) 1490914183 -4737, -51 are the starting off locations for these missions
2) Amador (19) 959318428 -4540, -49
3) Midnight (19) 1017582787 -4713, -42

(Update) - After 4 days of earning 6 plans each day in the Augment Faction Store, I finally have the full set of plans to build the Botany Bay. Now for the bad news. Unless you are willing to spend the $40 for the Botany Bay pack, you will not be able to build it any time soon. I will list the resources later today, but let's just say the Tritanium resources needed are immense. You might also notice that this ship takes almost 4 days to build. So either save up your speed ups or be prepared to wait.

(Update 2) - After 10 days of building up resources, I can finally start building the Botany Bay. 3 days and 16 hours to build this ship. I truly hope it is worth it.

Factions:

a) Federation
b) Klingon
c) Romulan
d) Augment
f) Kaylon
g) Mirror Universe - future expansion
h) Ferengi - future expansion
i) Borg - future expansion
j) Species 8472 (Undine) - future expansion

Now my take on factions. Choose one as your primary faction and stick with it until you are at least tolerated by this faction. Why wouldn't I stay neutral to all factions you ask? Because remaining neutral limits the rewards you can earn. It doesn't matter which faction you choose, just choose one. When you get to the "tolerated" level with this faction, there will be a daily reward event, which will earn you a reward coin. You can collect 7 coins and chose the weekly reward, or you can save them up and chose the monthly reward. I tell you this because I played this game neutral and I am not gaining the extra rewards, while the rest of my alliance are receiving these rewards in abundance.

Once you are tolerated by the one faction, try working on being tolerated by a second. You can do this by attacking opposite faction ships (red ships). It will be a grind because you will gain only 2 faction points per kill, but it will be worth it.

My Fleet:

A cautionary note: Even though you may acquire plans to build more than one of any type ship, with minor exceptions, don't build more than one of any ship. There is a maximum limit on how many ships you can have in your hangar.

1) Realta - the first ship you get. If you are moving through levels quickly, don't spend too much time or resources upgrading this ship. It is pretty much a one and done, and will sit in your hanger for eternity.

2) Orion Corvette - Even though this is a Battleship, treat it the same as the Realta. Again, this is another ship that sits in my hanger, is no longer used, and I can't get rid of it.

3) Phindra - This is a very good ship and I still use this ship today. Upgrade this ship to the maximum of its capabilities. It will eventually get old, but will still remain useful, especially when you have 3 docking stations. Time for rebuilding this ship is short, and it makes a good expendable ship. I typically use this ship as the first attack ship on a base that I will raid. I use it to attack a base and set off the automatic 5 minute shields (as of April 23, 2019, automatic shields now last 10 minutes, so a longer wait until you can raid a station). I rebuild it quickly, then move the crew over to a mining ship and redeploy to the system where the base is that I'm about to raid.

4) ECS Fortunate - It may seem week, and it pretty much is, but the ECS Fortunate is probably one of the most under rated ships in your fleet. This is considered an exploratory ship, but it is one of your main mining ships. Expand this ship to the maximum level and strength. I actually have 2 of the ECS Fortunate mining ships, along with one other, the Envoy (I will talk more about the Envoy later).

4) Turas - This is an interceptor type Starship and is the second most powerful ship in my fleet at this time. It is also the fastest ship in my fleet, and can arrive at a destination a full minute faster than any of my other ships. It can take a beating. I use this ship daily as well. Build this ship up to the maximum of its capabilities. It has limited range, so you can't use it to explore too far into factions space. You may come across a situation where a mission seems impossible to complete because you can't defeat the last ship to finish the mission. I use the Phindra, the Turas, and the Talla in a 3 ship attack to defeat much stronger enemy ships in order to complete missions. You may lose one or two of them, but the rewards for finishing the mission are always higher than the price you will pay for rebuilding them.

5) Talla - This is my main battleship, and it is the strongest ship in my fleet. It is a bit on the slow side, so it takes longer to reach your destinations. Build this ship up to the maximum of its capabilities. You will use this ship daily. Whether it is knocking players off zero or depleted nodes, attacking stations, or completing your daily missions on killing enemy ships. This ship will also allow you to travel further and explore further away from your base, opening up other missions that you can complete.

6) Envoy - this is another exploratory ship and is used for more than mining. Build this ship up to the maximum of its capabilities and it can become almost as strong as your second strongest ship. This ship, like the Talla, has an extended warp range and can travel further into factions space. I use this ship daily in a number of ways.

a) When gathering resources, I use the Envoy along with 2 of my ECS fortunates for mining. The Envoy can defend itself quite well when mining, so if another player tries to take your node, they will pay the price whether they win or lose.

b) When raiding a base, after the Phindra is destroyed during the initial attack, I repair the Phindra and switch the crew over to the Envoy, and send the Envoy back for the raid. I then have the Turas and Talla attack the base until it is weak enough to raid for resources, then send in the Envoy. It can put up quite a fight and then haul a large load of raided resources.

(Update) - I now have two Envoys for mining. My first is at 27K strength, and my second is at 17K strength. I primarily use the weaker Envoy for mining Dilithium and Tritanium. I use the stronger Envoy for mining 2* and 3* resources.

7) SS Botany Bay - This is an explorer / mining ship. I have all 60 plans to build this ship and have just acquired an enormous amount of resources to build it. It can carry a large amount of resources for normal mining, but its primary use is data mining in Augment space. From what I've heard from other players, it is well equipped to defend itself. Construction to completion takes 3 days 16 hours, I tried it out for the first time last night.

Pitifully weak ship to start out with. It was so weak that I had to use one additional ship along with the Botany Bay just to finish the first mission. Once that first mission was complete and I travelled to Augment Space, I had to bring two of my other longer range ships into Augment space as well. I brought the Talla and the Envoy, both of which were the only warp 20 ships I could get into this region. Unless you buy the Botany Bay upgrade pack, you will need to bring additional support vessels along with you on this journey.

8) Jellyfish - I got stuck with 74 out of 75 plans for building this ship. I don't know first hand all of its capabilities, but built up even slightly, this is one powerful ship. It can destroy ships several tiers and levels above your level with ease. The one drawback I've heard is that it takes an enormous amount of resources to repair. I may never end up building this ship because once I do, it may become obsolete against the Kehra and Kumari .

(Update ) - I finally got the last plan I needed during an Elite event. The Jellyfish upgraded quickly to become my most powerful attack ship. Believe it or not, my Envoy (a mining ship/explorer) is my second most powerful attack ship, leaving both Talla and Turas behind.

9) Kehra - Will start building today. I am 4.5K short of Tritanium, so one of my Envoys will be mining the remainder today. Once the Kehra is complete, I will be retiring the Talla as the Kehra will have the same strength as my Talla.

(Update) - My Kehra was completed yesterday afternoon. I took it out for some test battles against level 20 and 21 red ships. I would put this ship on par with my 27K+ Jellyfish as far as combat capabilities, but more expensive to repair. The Jellyfish will max out around 45K where as the Kehra will max out in the 100K+ range.

The Good: With three upgrades I was able to do, it is already my strongest ship at 27K+.

The Bad: This ship uses a TREMENDOUS amount of Tritanium for REPAIRS and UPGRADES. I had 3 ships mining Tritanium over night, and two ships mining Tritanium during the day so I can at least get this ship to Tier 2.

Daily Goals:
On the lower left hand side of the window, there is the "Missions" button. Once selected you have two tabs, one is for missions that go towards faction reputation, the other is your daily goals.

I can't express how important it is for you to complete as many of your daily goals as possible. You may not get them all, but any you do will help you. The more daily goals you complete, the more reward chests you unlock. This is where you can gain all sorts of rewards including character chards, dilithium, latinum, etc. These rewards help build up your station, fleet, and personnel quickly.

Whatever you do, do not ignore the daily goals and don't forget to open the rewards chests.

Augment Space:

From the description of this region that Khan gives you in the dialog during missions, I feel that we've been there before. The description sounds like a combination of regions of space called the Briar Patch and the Delphic Expanse. The missions in this region will have you collecting 3 materials (could be more), Dark Matter, Plutonium, and Data Mining nodes. The minimum strength of the enemy (red) ships in this region that I noticed were level 21.

From what I can tell so far, I will be spending a lot of resources in order to make my ships capable for combat in this region of the galaxy.

Attacking Bases:

I learned a valuable lesson yesterday evening. When raiding a base, don't send an explorer like the Turas to engage the base. Why did I do this stupid thing? Well, my Battleship Talla was at the very beginning of tiering up, and the ships I had available were the Phindra, Turas, and Envoy. I would send in the Turas first, shortly followed by the Envoy. the Turas did little minimal damage to the base, and would barely survive the attack. Since the Turas wasn't doing the job, the Envoy didn't have the firepower to do much of anything.

So, for the time being, when I will attack a base, at a minimum I will send 3 ships. The first pass I will hit the base with the Phindra, and while repairing it I will then hit the base with theTalla. Once the Phindra is repaired, I will swap out the crew to the Turas, then wear down the station defenses with the Talla and Turas. Once the station defenses are week enough, then I will send in the Envoy to haul off the rss.

Recruiting:

This is a very tough subject to cover. How do you recruit? I don't have a perfect answer. All I can do is to tell you how our Alliance started, and what my approach is.

One word of caution, if at all possible, don't become Admiral of an alliance unless you have good people in which you can delegate tasks to, otherwise it can become a full time job. You'll burn out quickly and probably quit the game.

Our Alliance started as one that was open to everyone. Anyone could join. This was OKay at first, but after a couple of weeks the spots filled up and we had A LOT of dead accounts (players who tried the game, then quit). As fast as we dropped inactive players, we had more players join, and shortly go dormant.

After talking with several of my teammates, we decided to make the alliance private. We were able to watch more closely which players were active, and which were not. We cleaned house and dropped from 40 players down to 15 active.

Then came the long haul of recruiting. I basically started advertising on Galaxy Chat for active players. Slowly we built up our numbers back to the 40 player limit. Even going this approach, you will have to do screen captures and monitor the progress of your players. If you notice someone has not played in a while, send them a private chat and wait for a response. If they haven't responded in 10 or more days, then it is probably time to find a replacement.

A major drawback to recruiting on Galaxy Chat is the enormous amount of rude and obnoxious comments you will receive while doing so. It doesn't end with comments just in Galaxy Chat, but you will receive a large amount of rude, vulgar, and harassing Private Chat messages as well, some of which I've reported directly to Scopely for improper behavior. Don't let these people discourage you as it is a very effective recruiting method.

Another way to recruit is to ask someone that you recruited off of Galaxy Chat if there is anyone in their old alliance that they think might join as well. Usually they know of someone because the alliance they came from probably had only 2 or 3 active members.

The best days/nights for recruiting are Friday nights, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. I don't bother anymore with trying to recruit during the week. The players you see during the week on Galaxy Chat are the diehard players whom are already in steady alliances, and are more than likely the ones you will be harrassed by.

========================================================

Apparently these guidelines are being read by people other than my alliance.

I guess I'll just put it out there. Dark Star Avengers [DSA] is a very active and fun group of people. We are currently ranked 23rd in power overall and climbing with 64 active players. This group contributes to the alliance more than I ever expected, so we are gaining new spots every week. Besides gameplay, we spend a lot of time on Alliance Chat, and also have a discord server set up.

We are on server 29. To see what server you are on, when you have two ships that need repairs, try repairing them at the same time and an error message along with the server number will appear.

We have non-aggression alliances with FURY, DSII, GK, and GNY.

We also have a feeder group for new players who want to grow. It is called [DSII] Dark Star II. So if you are a player just starting out, we can add you to this group. Once you reach a power level of 300K, we will move you to the main alliance of [DSA] Dark Star Avengers.

If any of this appeals to you, you are an active player, and are tired of an alliance that never presses the help button, contact
[DSA] DietDrThunder via private chat in the game to apply to our alliance.

We've caught our spy:

So, I'm going to make a general statement. I don't want to make you paranoid, but if you have the slightest feeling that something strange is going on in your alliance, you most likely have a spy.

I won't go into to many details, because right now I'm VERY pissed off. It happened during my watch as Admiral, and I take full responsibility for the ramifications. Luckily for us, we caught him before too much damage was done.

What did this spy do? He relayed position information and movements around the galaxy of our key high tiered players. Our high tier players were met and had battles in differing systems around the galaxy by multiple high tiered players of the same damn team, or one of their alliances. This team always knew where we were, tagged our geo locations, and relayed this information to the other team.

You are probably asking, "Why don't you just drop him and move on?" Well, I feel that it is my duty to my team to do something about it. What am I going to do?

Here are the steps I'm taking to safeguard my team:
1) I demoted this spy to agent - this will keep him from kicking players from our alliance.
2) Having team members move to private chat for communicating operational plans, base defense plans, base raiding plans, etc. Alliance chat will only be used in the short term for general discussions and help.
3) I will be informing all Admirals in the top 50 teams of who this spy is. I will suggest that they have their recruiter send him a one word message in private chat. The word will be SPY. The intended purpose is to keep this spy out of every top 50 team as possible. So if this spy tries to join another team, regardless of if he changes his name, he will always be tracked. The name changes but the chat will always remain. So if he goes to join a team, SPY will be the first word in their chat window.
4) After all this work, I will geo locate this spy's base and drop him from the team.
5) I will allow the two players in which this spy affected the most carry out the punishment of destroying his base and taking all of his rss.
6) A kill on sight order will be placed on this player. If we run into him in the galaxy (which is really quite small), we will destroy his ships.
7) Because of who this spy is, a kill on sight order will be placed on the team he spied for (yes I know which team it is). If we run across this team, we will kill their ships.

Will the kill on sight order of the team in which this guy spied for cause a war? I imagine so. Not only is my team is up to this task, we have allies, and together we will take this war to their doorstep.

Now I will have the long process of determining if we have more than one spy. As Admiral, this is not fun. I joined this game as an escape and a fun activity. This process will most likely ruin any fun I will have in this game for a long time.

Once everything is taken care of, I will explain exactly how this spy was caught.

The Daily Grind:

I am determined to spend as little money as possible on this game, but I am having a REALLY hard time. It is coming down to the choice of continuous mining of crystal, gas, and ore, or to start paying big bucks to buy these resources. I spend the majority of yesterday mining 50K of 2* Crystal. What did I get as my reward for refining this crystal? 50 uncommon refined crystal and 400 common. Wow, I need thousands of each. Especially since my station needs it for upgrading my shipyard and for upgrading one of my ships. It seems to be a losing battle, but I haven't given up yet. I'm just doing a little whining for the day.

Communication:

I know many of you just want to play the game and not look at Alliance Announcements, Alliance Chat or your Private Chat, but it is key that you check these daily. You don't have to spend hours looking through them, but please take a glance, especially at your Private Chat. There may be specific information you need to continue being successful.

For Example:

Our alliance is doing a merger with another alliance. They are a team of 20 high level active players, and their alliance has 62 total slots. Our alliance has 40 active players with a maximum of 56 slots. So everyone on our team is moving over to the other alliance, well almost everyone. We have 6 players with power levels between 450K and 790K that never look at any chat. I posted that we were moving in the Announcement, sent them all multiple private chats, and sent multiple messages via alliance chat. Not one of these 6 have responded. I know that they are active because up to the moment I left the alliance, I was still receiving help requests from them. I went as so far as to have players that have already switched over, attack their station to get their attention but still no response.

So I guess these last 6 get left behind until they finally figure out that EVERYONE ELSE has left.

Egos:

We have to admit, we all have them and this will never change. There may be players on your team which have spent a lot of time and money to get to the level they have achieved. Then there are others on your team that spend the time, but don't spend the money (like me). At some point there will come a clash of egos. Both feel that they have "earned" their position, and rightly, both have.

As a leader you have to navigate these egos. You not only need to lead, but be moderator, baby sitter, consoler, etc. If a dispute between team members rears its ugly head, you must be ready to step in. Let both parties know of their importance to the team, but also the importance of the other members. Like the saying goes, "There ain't no I in team."

As a leader, you can't take the position that your decisions reign supreme. Surround yourself with good people to help you lead, and talk your policies through. I've seen it many times so far. There are two types of leadership styles that fail in this game, and are as follows:

A) Dictatorship - Ruling with an iron fist. With some players, this technique does in fact not impact for a long time. They can play the game and can ignore the politics, that is, until it starts to affect them. Setting of unrealistic expectations that all players must meet alliance contribution goals, or unrealistic expectations that all players meet power achievement goals at the same rate. These will come with the threat of reduction in rank and/or eventual dismissal from the team. An extreme example I witnessed on another alliance was when a player took a two week vacation to spend with his family. When the player returned, he had several rather harsh private messages, and was reduced in rank. This player shortly left the team for another.

B) Full Democracy - One of the worst strategies in the world for this game. It basically turns any team to mob rule, with a 51% majority dominating the 49% minority. I have seen alliances try this with voting taking place on discord. If you didn't check discord and vote, you were left out. Needless to say the team did achieve a high level, only to fall apart.

My suggestion for a Leading an alliance is to not take this game too seriously and get caught up in the quest to be the number one team. This realistically is not going to happen. Make realistic goals by talking it over with all members of the team in discord. Let everyone share their views. Some will like it, some won't. Those that don't like the final decisions will leave, and that is Okay because ultimately you only want players happily playing the game on your alliance. Remember, everyone can be replaced, including the Leader.

Events:

I can't express enough the importance of participating in events. The rewards received for completing them far outweigh the time spent doing them. They are geared to give you needed resources so you don't have to spend that hard earned money of yours.

There are three main types of events with each having solo and alliance rewards:
1) Elite Separatists - rewards for destroying Klingon Separatist ships.
2) Faction Events - rewards for destroying Klingon, Romulan, and Federation ships which includes giving you more reputation for the faction you choose to align with.
3) Mining Events - Not only do you get to keep what you mine, but you also receive additional rewards for the amount you mine during these events. An example of the rewards I received during the last mining event were two 1 Million Parsteel tokens, 400K Tritanium, and 2 100K Dilithium Tokens.
