3D has been pretty good lately. Where I live we aren't given a choice most of the time. They charge you the same for a normal movie as a 3D movie though and you only have to pay extra if you need the glasses.

Nobody sane will argue that Star Trek hasn't always used technobabble as a convenient crutch for its stories. However, one little supernova being a danger to the entire galaxy is beyond the pale.

No it was actually a good movie with some depth (not a lot, but hey they're reintroducing characters for non-fans too). I like the care they took to explain that the original canon timeline (ToS, TNG, DS9, etc.) still exists (albeit without its Spock).

I have watched ToS, TNG, Voyager and DS9 and consider myself a fan.

The Red Matter and that space phenomenon was nothing more than what Hitchcock referred to as a macguffin. No one really complained when Hitchcock used it, or when it was used in Pulp Fiction (its Macguffin was actually a reference to a Hitchcock movie). Now one can debate the use of one in a sci-fi move, however I've never considered Star Trek anything close to "hard" or realistic Sci-fi.

It's an Onion video but it's so on the mark regarding some Trekker reactions to the 2009 movie.

I'm in NY and there's only one true Imax theater and it's 23.75 for that. Fakemax 3d showings are about 20. Either way, if I'm even going to waste money to do this, it would be for Man of Steel. I'm not going to blow nearly 50 bucks to watch 2 movies... ridiculous.

I despise having to watch movies in "3D" (sometimes theaters here only have that version). Having to put silly plastic filters on top of my glasses = bad movie experience, zero added value, all for a HIGHER price.

Pfft.

yea I've been looking for an IMAX theater near me that is showing this w/o 3D. No dice...

we have 4 IMAX theatres in the area but they are all digital IMAX, about 40 minutes away is a "real" IMAX theatre, but I can't warrant $25/ticket AND a drive to Virginia!

There were so many more realistic ways they could have done that though. I think it was more of a "What would look cool as a special effect" decision.

Skipped work and caught matinee show yesterday. I enjoyed the movie, plenty of action and familiar Trek references and hot chick. Lens flare does get annoying and distracting at times, it's like someone keep flashing high beam on you while watching the movie - so unnecessary.
Future tech question: if cars levitates/hovers, why bother with paved roads? And what's up with carrying a flipup communicator around, u know the phone watch, wearable tech, and google glass is just around the corner.

It was really good!...umm...end of review I guess.

So didn't they start a big Klingon war and now their just gonna leave earth for 5 years?

but indeed, two big thumbs up. They are doing to Star Trek what Nolan did with Batman.

3d worth it? The cost is 60% dollars more per ticket. The standard review sites have been worthless in going over any comparison.

Nope.
It seems that Dr. Carol Marcus wasn't even working on anything like Genesis.

If they got Phil Collins to introduce the Genesis project, that would be the last thing I would ever need to see in a movie.

It was good. Not bad. For a moment
I thought they were going to cast Kahn as the ethical hero that despite his warrior origins demonstrates more humanity than the supposedly more"civilized" humans of the 23rd century, casting the admiral as the primary villain of the film. (Even so, I guess he wasn't kidding when he said he was responsible for Pike's death...) That still could have lead to a conflict in view seeing kahn as the villain in a third, but alas it was not meant to be.

All and all I give it 8 screaming wenches out of 10.

Doesn't seem like it. I saw the trailer for this movie in 3D, and the lens flare doesn't look good in 3D...sometimes the lens flare looked like it was behind the actors, sometimes it was in front of them...just really confusing

Me and girlfriend just saw it. We loved it. We both thought Benedict cumberbatch was impressive. Honestly best movie villain since Heath Ledger's Joker.

I saw "George Kirk" in the credits, but I don't recall seeing him in the movie. Flashback lost on the cutting room floor perhaps?
