Wondering what ship to use at T5. Have choice of free one from shop for L50 token, the veteran destroyer, along with about every anniversary/event T5.

I'm an eng capt but last couple of ranks been using escorts cause it makes pve easier, unsure if that changes now that I'm getting closer to max level.

Also with this ship slot/dry docking,m when I open an event ship box do I get any free slots with that?

Depends on your preferred playstyle and if you're more concerned about "winning" or just having fun. My most active toons are running science ships.

You don't get a free slot with the event ship, but drydocking does give you a little more juggling room.

All the recent event anniversary ships have been T6, do you have any of them?

I have a bunch of T5 RALH and a couple (more recent I'm assuming) T6 RALH.

Thought RALH was only T5 but guess that has been changed.

This is the ship you want. Oldy but a goldy.

If not, the Sovereign Class is pretty sweet. (assault cruiser)

You'll get more and better advice in the Academy subforums of the Arc STO forums, but:

The easiest at endgame is a cruiser with beams and Beam Fire At Will. Press spacebar, stuff blows up.

Escorts / tac ships are fun, but for high DPS normally use narrow-arc weapons, dual beam banks or dual heavy cannons, or rarely a torpedo boat. You need to fly more to stay on target and pay much more attention to not blowing up.

Carriers are fun but gimped by the broken AI and nerfed damage of the pets. The Breen carrier is fun for a science build with gravity well 3.

Science ships also are fun but harder to set up and use properly than escorts and cruisers since your main damage is from space magic.

In short, any ship type can be fun to fly. If you mean to climb the DPS charts you probably want an escort or cruiser.

looks like the kobali cruiser is the only T6 (excluding some science and carrier vessels) sub 50 one I have so going with that I guess to start leveling it up.

The Kobali cruiser is a very tanky cruiser, especially with the console it include. If you want to maximum tank, run the full Kobali set.

I'll have to disagree with Dave about asking on the Arc forums. Most of the STO Community is on the mindset there's only one way to play. Like Dave said, Cruiser + BFAW is pretty much the easy button end game. Especially if you're running Tac and have Kemo. But I find it incredibly boring personally.

My primary build is a PartGen Gravity Well/Reverse Tractor Beam Repulsors/Destabilizing Resonance Beam Pathfinder Torpedo boat because I find it fun.

Well yeah, rule #1 for me is not DPS it's: is it fun to fly?

My fed science captain flies a Fleet Scryer with the Nukara and (I forget which episode) Tetryon sets, with partigens and grav well. The Nukara set looks good on the Scryer and it's a fun ship for space magic.

I have other Fed, KDF and Rom captains flying pretty much everything else.

If you ask in the Academy subforums "what is best in life?" * they will say BFAW, antiproton beams, etc. and give you a cookie-cutter build. But if you ask about something more specific like making a torpedo boat or a phaser cannon Defiant build they can help with that too.

* even though the real answer is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo9buo9Mtos

I run a full Nuke set + Episode set on my Recluse just because nothing else looks right on it. Seriously tempted to save up the EC for a Tarantula just to complete the family.

Lupi, give us an idea how you like to play and I'm sure Dave and I can help you out.

You should still have time to grind out the Krenim anniversary science ship, I'd recommend doing that.

Don't need to grind it, already had a char with about 1400 banked from when I did them on multi chars before from when you used to have to do them on each one. Just haven't "bought" it yet. At the time was looking for a new ship to do the anniversary mission as I hadn't upgraded in a while since I mostly dabble in game.

Good thing too, not sure if they scale the mission based on char level or ship, but a couple of the fights had them shoveling a good amount of enemies at me and the ground portion kinda sucked as I haven't really upgraded there in a long time.

That won't work. 2016 science ship project only accepts 2016 q-mendations.

Your 1400 can be sold in the event buyback store for 93 elite queue reward boxes, for 93 salvaged tech and several hundred VR mats.

Edit: Summer/Winter are that way now too. The good news is that event ships are now account-wide unlocks for all characters including any new ones you create later on. So you only need to grind (starting now!!) on a single character. If you miss a day or two I think you can buy the 2016 qms for lobi but they are expensive.

Yeah, it sucks for people like you that had excess marks left over, but as somebody with 16 toons, I REALLY appreciate only having to run it on a single toon.

The Lobi to QM ratio is horrifically bad.

What's your handle in game? I'm always up for helping in game in you need somebody to team up with.

It's also great that characters that you create in the future now get any "event" ships you unlocked in past events.

I wanted one each of (Fed, Rom, KDF) x (Tac, Eng, Sci) = 9 characters. Several of them were added after last year's Summer, Winter and Anniversary events but with this change they still have access to all of the ships.

Even if I don't want to fly the Breen carrier for example, it has a nice Mastery healing trait that is useful to any other ship with hangars.

Yes the new method of getting on all chars if great. Just didn't need to devalue old ones so in case during one event you didn't have time to do it continuously you could have a store of them banked to just purchase that time.

Not sure what my in game ID is, will have to check later.

finished my event ship a couple days ago.

unfortunately unless I'm missing something, looks like I can just flush the ~2K old anniversary tickets I have. what I see in the store is some stuff for max level chars or for researching which I've done none of.

If you haven't/aren't going to do crafting, spend it on the Specialization Points packages.

If you haven't/aren't going to do crafting, spend it on the Specialization Points packages.

Spec points are easy to get now with the Admiralty System.

Salvaged Technology mats sell for a nice price on the exchange. The price might be down a little right now from people cashing out their Qs but the historical price is 400 - 500,000 EC each.

Cash out now, hold the mats for 2-3 weeks until prices go back up, sell them for millions of EC.

Meh, to each their own, but I've got plenty of EC sitting around. No question Admiralty system helps greatly but that's severely limited by what cards you have access to. I'd rather have the spec points now.
