I think the problem is, the show doesn't know what it wants to be.
It looks like they have a rough draft of the direction they want to go, then they sprinkle in the lame jokes, add more dumb scenes (Bot sex, get the guy to eat glass & a cactus then eat a gun!, The fire suppression system is on fire... Smoke Screen in space... and on it went.)

It doesn't really have any competition at this day/hour it is on, and it is better than the other crap that is on CBS or NBC or ABC, so it wins by default, but, it is just disappointing in the overall direction it has taken. Remove the lame jokes, ditch the stupid scenes that come with the lame jokes, and it will be a more entertaining show.

Someone mentioned it would have been better as a cartoon series, and I would agree.

Totally agree on the part that it might survive purely because it does not have any competition. Discovery, the only other competition is fracked up beyond belief, non-star trek like and totally nonsensical story like and not on the air, only for paid customers... nice way to kill a show in its incubator.

Maybe he is blocking it out. The whole infiltrate the enemy segment was so cringy, I had to keep skipping ahead (too painful to watch).
OMG yes. The dialog was such bullsh**. Here's an alien culture you supposedly know nothing about and you just walk in and start talking like you're with friends at a bar. God, that was . . . I don't have the words. Oh I know, that's the sort of sh** even Michael Bay wouldn't do and nobody's accusing him of having standards.

One more episode like that and I'm sh** canning this show. The only reason I was still watching is that the episodes up until now have been at least marginally plausible. There were plenty of incongruities and plot holes but nothing so bad you couldn't ignore it. We've plumbed new depths with this episode.

If you're too uptight to appreciate the humor then perhaps you should watch something else.

Seth's character meet a new alien and said this:

"Hey, nice name. . . Just kidding, it's horrible!"

When I heard that line, I sat there dumbstruck wondering if that was an attempt at humor and if not, then why'd they feel the need to include something so infantile. It's jarringly bad. I feel that way at many of the "jokes" the show attempts.

I really wanted to like this show, but I can't understand the show's popularity.

I enjoy the show... so far.

However, I completely agree that if they continue going overboard, it's not going to last long.

It definitely has room for improvement, both in the scripts and how some of the humor plays out. And, if history is any indication, it's pretty much a requirement that the first season of any Star Trek show is the worst.

At least for now however, it's in a good place. It pulled a 1.0 Thursday night, which for a Fox scripted show is reasonable, if not outright great against both football and the MLB playoffs.

It's par for the course in every episode. Orville is all about goofy infantile and bathroom "humor".

It's one of the least funny "comedies" I have seen.

Sir, I've been searching for words to describe STD but you found them before I did. I enjoy STD as sci fi only and NOT as anything closely resembling the ST universe as we know it. Have you considered posting your thoughts in this thread?:

Same here I record the show and watch so I can FF through it and I watched probably a total of 10 mins was just to hard to watch. Latest episode was junk.

probably the greatest space battle joke of all time.

"What happened to the automatic fire suppression system?"
"That's the panel that caught fire!"

For those who don't get it, it's a dig on every space show with battle scene. The control panel Always explodes and bursts into flames. In the Orville they finally put in an automatic fire suppression system, and it caught fire.

the ex-wife's pimple on her forehead is distracting.
she's had it since the show started.
surprised she hasn't had it removed

I actually liked episode 6 the space vampires. It's funny seeing Seth kicking ass. The krill are actually kinda scary.

Haven't watched E06 yet, space vampires? wraith? are they spoofing Stargate now?
No, they aren't spoofing the wraith. I won't say much more than that, but it's not an intentional Stargate homage. Rather it's just an explanation for why the Krill are as pale as they are.

This show was awesome!
Please up-vote me!
Um... you have been down-voted by 10 million by saying the a______ word.
A society that uses a smartphone to "vote" if they like something or not? Huh, I wonder how they ever came up with that idea...
The 'punishment' is basically a version of Nebari's mind cleanse as well. (And that was a much better show)
Then the 'hacking'? Who didn't see that coming from the get-go?
So, yes, /me is complaining again.

That was a neat, high-concept episode. It's very much a Star Trek-style Planet of Hats kind of episode, but I liked the very modern take on direct democracy and how many different concepts of society and governance that the episode touched upon. As far as high-concept episodes go, it's easily the best one of the series thus far.

This show was awesome!

I finally saw the latest episode and I really liked the story. The acting is still a little quirky but the overall story definitely hits home in today's society.

Cute episode but this one didn't really click with me. The story was cliche and predictable almost like I had seen it done before just better. Anyway, I still like the show overall and will keep watching.
