Cute episode but this one didn't really click with me. The story was cliche and predictable almost like I had seen it done before just better. Anyway, I still like the show overall and will keep watching.

Black Mirror on Netflix.

It was kind of a bland episode but a great concept. It reminded me a lot of TOS in terms of using socially relevant themes. I'm tempted to say it was overdone but I think that they actually made it believable. By the end, you could almost understand the mindset that would see the world that way. So from the point of view of warping your perception, it was fantastic.

I agree. I like the show in general but if you stop for a second you might realize that almost this last entire episode was lifted from previous ST episodes from different series. While more enjoyable to watch than STD, Orville lacks "newness". The writers (MacFarlane???) are just pulling themes and ideas from past ST episodes and re-arranging them. This episode was cute and the "absolute" democracy was appropriate in this day-and-age but I felt like I was watching 10 past ST episodes at one time ...

I haven't seen this or the new Star Trek, but watching previews and reviews, I have to say this looks like a lot more like a true spiritual successor to Star Trek than Discovery does. I miss the over-the-top optimism of The Next Generation, but it looks like The Orville might be pretty decent.

I liked the episode. It was an apt description of the living hell the world would be if the millennials / snowflakes / SJWs ran the world.

No, you definitely missed the point of the episode.

If he/she ... or anyone else "missed" the point of the episode, who should we blame? Do we blame the one who (may have) missed the point ... or the one who failed (in this case) to make it?

In this case they spell out the moral of the story in the briefing room. I suspect FerrelGeek may just be seeing what they want to see.

started watching the episode:
plot hole- how did they down vote the navigator since he had a fake/black market voting badge?

edit:
I liked it.
deep thinking issues.
more like the original Star Trek than what Discovery/Abram's Star Trek movies are where it's formula ratings grab of Federation vs whoever.

Totally agree on the part that it might survive purely because it does not have any competition. Discovery, the only other competition is fracked up beyond belief, non-star trek like and totally nonsensical story like and not on the air, only for paid customers... nice way to kill a show in its incubator.
The first Discovery episode was on free TV. CBS is like a drug dealer.

As I said, give it time. The concept is sound, and this could end up working if done right. It looks like it's getting polished each episode. By mid-second season, this might actually end up being a classic.

I agree that there are things that don't make total sense (like a lot of fiction: Sound in space? Warp particles? Jon Snow a Targaryen? Arya surviving a knife to the gut with just a bandage and some tea? - of course they need those things for dramatic effect or tying the plot together), but I like it too, especially given all the crap out there. Sometimes you have to suspend belief in the plausible.

That last episode I thought was great. It made me wonder what it might lead to if Zuckerberg added an "unlike" button.

A failed drug dealer maybe, its was not even mildly addictive. I am glad that I am not wasting my time on that miserable excuse of a star trek.
It actually picked up with the Mudd episode. Keep watching!

OK, tonight’s episode was the best so far. Only one dick joke, lots of emotion, and Isaac dealing with kids, with a Walking Dead twist.

I actually missed it, but after reading about it here and my brother's zero-star review, I'm glad I did.

I've been noticing that The Orville's theme song occasionally runs through my head. That means I'm hooked.

A bit of a plot hole I saw in this episode: How come the

cannibals didn't stop to eat the guy the doctor shot?

I figured we were due for a Claire focus episode (and it's about dang time!), and that was not at all what I was expecting. A very straightforward and intense episode, but also a good character episode for both of them.

The kids were an interesting choice. Kids usually make these kinds of shows worse. But in this case, the kids were okay (not great, but bearable/not Wesley). Though in a roundabout way, it also makes this a good episode to watch with your (slightly older) kids.

cannibals didn't stop to eat the guy the doctor shot?
Would you rather have game you know is ill, or fresh, wild game?

This week's Star Trek cameo: Drogen (the guy who captured Claire) was played by the actor who was the Romulan admiral responsible for the drone ship in Enterprise's (fantastic) Babel Crisis arc.
