Yeah, season 1 is over, they originally made 13 episodes but only had time to air 12. I am definitely looking forward to season 2, I hope they learn and improve. The endings were too quick, they definitely need to improve on it. I like the show very much, so much so that I am unable to watch Discovery, cant really get into it... imho orville captures the spirit of Star Trek wayyyyy better than Discovery.
I tend to agree, though I did get into Discovery. I do think Orville is better overall, but the shows are also really different. But 100% Orville is closer to the spirit of Star Trek than Discovery.

I enjoyed the season finale. It kind of reminded me of a Voyager episode where they got stuck in a planets orbit but the planet was spinning really fast so time moved faster on the planet than it did for Voyager.
Anyway, the latchcomb game kicked it off nicely to. I hadn't laughed that much since watching the episode when Gordon put Mr. Potato Head pieces on Isaac and Isaac decided to try playing a practical joke on Gordon by cutting his leg off.

It's a fun show. Glad to hear it got picked up for a second season.

I remember that one. Its one of the few Voyager episodes thats actually watchable. Most of them suck.

Break new grounds? Really??? It's in the past, we know this type of stuff never happened... What's the point? It's idiotic idea

Yeah, it's revisionist rather than a slavish, braindead copy. At least Discovery is trying. In a world in which there is already Star Trek why does the world need a bad copy of it? New is better than a blurry Xerox even if the new isn't all that great.

I watched a couple episodes and I don't really get it. It has funny moments(like the warf character having to hatch the egg) but then it goes all Family Guy and they throw in stupid pop-culture references that make no sense in the story they've created. I'll probably watch some more episodes as my girlfriend likes it and I'm a sucker for anything with spaceships.

Problem with Discovery is that it has nothing to do with Star Trek. More like Star Wars Trek.

Like all season 1 sci-fi shows, they're finding their balance, discovering their characters, and learning how to write scripts. The show actually matures a lot mid-season.

Aye. It starts a bit heavy on the jokes, and I expect that was because Fox wanted to promote it on MacFarlane's history with animated comedies. Not that it ever stops having lighthearted moments, but the back-half is a lot better balanced, I feel.

Sorry but I just cant take this show seriously That said, I like it and will continue to watch it but come on, its a parody at best, not a serious contender. An Adam Sandler type comedy show describes it for me. I dont get him either. Great sets and special effects for the most part, ridiculous aliens and displays of human stupidity for the rest.

It's not supposed to be taken seriously. Think of The Office + Star Trek.

Hey, they're both shitty shows. The difference is that one is shitty because it differs too much from its source material and the other is shitty because it doesn't differ enough from the source material it shamelessly copies. If forced to watch one I'd watch the one that is shitty while at least trying to be original, but I can't understand why anyone watches either.

Because they have spaceships that roam the galaxy. As I said before I'm a sucker for any show based on this premise and that probably goes for a lot of people here. But that being said I didn't make it through more than a handful of episodes of Enterprise and I may not make it through Discovery either. I just end up going back and watching TNG episodes again. That show was so damn good.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't make it to Enterprise season 4...

Yeah Enterprise wasn't that bad. It got really good from half way through season 2 through season 4. That intro song killed Enterprise though. Most trek fans said NOPE after sitting through it the first few times.

I'm about halfway through Season 1. This is waaaaaaaay better than I was expecting! It does a good job of having fun with itself in the vein of Galaxy Quest, while also having some serious moments a la Star Trek. I was hankering for a solid Star Trek spoof after watching the USS Calister episode of Black Mirror!

The graphics are fun but oddly rendered in certain places (mostly the exterior ship shots), like not always anti-aliased & stuff. But some of the artwork is pretty beautiful & the ship has a pretty fun, novel design with the triple-engine. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's a little thing I wish they'd clean up just to tighten up the look with the rest of the show.

I like the relatable banter, it's like a much more realistic version of Star Trek with how people actually behave. The humor is pretty good at times too. Although I feel like they need to hire an additional comedy writer because a lot of the humor could be a LOT funnier. And they need to make certain quips quicker to get more of a laugh out of you, like in the pilot episode when the captain is meeting all of the senior crew & the one pilot asks if soda is okay on the bridge. That should have been a quick quip, not a central comedy point, because it was pretty funny, especially when he takes a sip while flying the ship, but they kind of over-focused on it and left you hanging a bit. So the comedy needs to mature a bit, as well as the timing of the editing & writing.

Lots of fun ideas. The Pria episode had a pretty good twist. I liked the one with the stranded ark as well (lol @ the Liam Neeson cameo). I like that they do a touch & go on the topics in each episode...fun enough to explore them a bit & kick around a neat idea for the episode, and not get sucked into deeper for more than that. It's an easy show to just plunk down & watch. I push off watching a lot of shows simply because I don't have the mental brainpower to deal with watching them after work sometimes, lol.

The prosthetics are sooooooooo much better than Star Trek as well...I'm watching the episode where they infiltrate the Krill ship right now, with the holographic projectors, and their alien faces are just really excellent. I love Star Trek, but the aliens always bugged me with how goofy they looked.

I would call this show a spoof with heart. It's simple & fun to watch. It also feels like the early episodes of Scrubs (another goofy show with heart), before the show got its groove on - I'm hoping they can figure out the line delivery, improve the humor, and smooth out the other rough edges, because I could see myself watching a bunch of seasons of this show if they keep filming it & especially if they keep improving it.

Yeah, Because Orville is a shameless copy of Star Trek and Discovery tries to break new ground.

If it actually succeeded in breaking new ground instead of rewriting the lore (aka retconning canon) needlessly STD might've gotten a more enthusiastic reception than it has...
Especially in comparison to The Orville which is pretty much akin to comfort food. Given a choice between the two I'll take the comfort food.

Exactly, there is a large difference between breaking new ground and rewriting history.
