Really enjoyed this episode. Best part by far:

View attachment 3040

I have no idea how they made an episode about absolutely nothing so good. There no bad guy, no major problem to solve, and yet this episode was fantastic! I literally LOL'd a few times, this scene being one of them

"Where's my dinner?"

"You don't eat..."

Oh yeah, both human Isaac & human Yaphit were played by the actors themselves.

Also this part lol.

That's how character driven shows work. If you have good character development, the script writes itself!

I like Norm and think he is funny but he is creepier in human form than blob. LOL

Just watched the last 3 episodes. First contact was a great ST remake. The date, came out of left field and was really good. And lol wtf Norm Macdonald. Last one was good, but a little more standard of the three, although the moclan angle has been looked into enough now to make it feel like something big will be coming.

I think you are right, especially when the command staff is openly talking on the bridge about not wanting Moclus in the Planetary Union, but they unfortunately need them.

I'm expecting something like the Klingon Civil war but on Moclus.

It seems to me that Moclus has a culture which has made it quite more technologically advanced that Earth. So I saw the conflict in culture more like as seen at Apple/Google. These technology companies are heavily white males. Their super great success is off the backs of white males.

Nobody significantly protests these companies because we need them. The use of Moclus gender is a plot device.

Dude, this last episode was epic!

I was waiting for the Orville's version of The Borg to show up eventually, but I wasn't expecting that's how it was going to happen

That's the best Sci-Fi plot twist that I've seen in awhile.

OK, so how are we going to keep Isaac on the show after this?

1. This is all an extreme sex induced dream the Doctor is having.

2. A mass hypnosis by the planet dwellers to see how biologicals will cope and if they should join the Union.

3. Some crappy time travel loop to change things.

4. Isaac somehow overcomes his programming and saves the day.

5. They all run on IPhone batteries and they run out.

6. They dont. There is no coming back from this.

Killed off a bunch of red shirts they did but no main characters yet. I vote for #1 or 2.

I'm liking option 4. I think that Issac is just "playing along", and will rescue the Orville at just the right time by reprogramming the drone army to attack themselves in an epic CGI space battle.

(That's what I got from watching the teaser at the end of the show, anyway. They might have given too much away)

It also what probably would have happened in Star Trek, where they always seemed to push the idea of humanity "infecting" robotic life with morals if they spent enough time with them. You know... Data, Seven Of Nine, Holographic doctor, etc.

What I wonder about artificial life forms is why they would want to take over life bearing worlds. Maybe they couldn't convince their creators to let them go, or they didn't have spaceships at the time. Maybe they think they need to preemptively attack other civilizations to protect themselves. But otherwise they should be sticking to airless rocky worlds and not bothering other races.

My guess
There is a reason Isaac has blue eyes and not red eyes. And it's not so the audience knows who is who. They in fact do not agree and is why it takes so long to decide on a 0 / 1 decision to join / not join. In actuality, they still haven't decided. There are different races. Blue eyed robots are peace loving. Red eyed robots are messed up war mongers ... and if you see green eyes, they are the sex robots. Admit it, you know this to be true.

They were stalling to build their war ships, not because they couldn't decide. My thought on the blue eyes was that it was deliberate to make them seem more 'peaceful' to humans, as red eyes is generally looked upon as 'bad' in our culture. I assume though at some point Isaac will be convinced to turn on his own

Wow, what a step up in graphics! Puts the SW prequel trilogy to shame, haha!

The underground scene, dang...the first pile, sure, but when they zoomed out...DANG MAN!

Also, on the first half of the show...whoever writes this show knows EXACTLY what they are doing. They've mastered the art of making you care about non-human characters, Dobby-style. Surprisingly well-done!

Are we going to go back to the beginning of the thread where people said the show sucked and was going to last 1/2 a season, and those that said "give it a chance to mature" had shoes thrown at them?

Brannon Braga & André Bormanis wrote this two part episode, and it was directed by Jon Cassar.

Brandon Braga wrote and Produced episodes on:
André Bormanis became the science consultant for Star Trek: The Next Generation and went on to work in that capacity for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.[1] In his role he acted as an advisor for the screenwriters, in order to ensure that the correct scientific principles are included in the episodes.[2] Whilst working on Voyager, he co-wrote the episode "Nightingale". He has also been a writer of several episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise, such as "Silent Enemy", "Extinction", and "The Communicator".[3] He has since written the book Star Trek: Science Logs.[1] .

Jon Cassar, well there are too many to list, so you can go to THIS link.

Very good episode. Does give some questions about the androids though. If they are so quick to deactivate one with no concern about recovery, what is driving them to expand, unless there is a strong underlying war culture they have been waiting to broadcast.

Should make for an interesting twist for galactic politics.

And I still lol every time they talk about him cutting off the leg.

Well.... I kinda got it right, anyway. Issac turns into a hero, and there was an epic CGI space battle

If the last episode reminded me of Star Trek TNG, this one kinda reminded me more of something like Battlestar Galactica or Independence Day. You know, with that whole defending a doomed Earth with cool space fighters kinda thing.
