Many ships at high speed, battle, GO!

Story was typical weak sauce and PC BS but that was expected from Seth. No EMP protection? Illogical Kaylon "thinking"?

Have to say I still enjoyed it and I liked the Krill fighters. Gordon is a quick study. Norm saves the day.

For the glory of Avis!

Well.... I kinda got it right, anyway. Issac turns into a hero, and there was an epic CGI space battle

If the last episode reminded me of Star Trek TNG, this one kinda reminded me more of something like Battlestar Galactica or Independence Day. You know, with that whole defending a doomed Earth with cool space fighters kinda thing.

I don't think Issac turned into a hero, more like he figured out what the right thing to do was. There wasn't an "all is forgiven" moment.

But the CGI battle also reminded me A LOT of the STNG battle with the Borg at Wolf 359. Especially when communicating with Admiral Halsey. Yes and then add the Battle Star Galactica on top of that, with the icing of a Star Wars battle.

I almost say that they kind of over did the CGI. Too many large fast moving ships with too many Planetary Union ships looking identical. Maybe if the mix of ships looked more like the Deep Space 9 episode when the Federation was taking the battle to Cardasia.

I still enjoyed the episode.

So, in your opinion, what were the major messages the writers were trying to get across in these two episodes?

Besides "Slavery is bad!" and "Genocide is even worse!"? I'm not sure. These episodes didn't seem to have a strong social message like the first few episodes this season. I guess that you had some "Even robots can learn empathy" moments in there as well, which Star Trek TNG seemed to use quite a bit.

I also noticed that Krill ships seem to have better weapons than the Union ships do. That might be a problem for The Union later. Or, maybe it's just because the Krill worship Avis... they just Try Harder

My take on the messages the writers were trying to get across were:

1) In part 1, stop loving and anthropomorphizing your devices/tech because it isn't alive and will never return your love or affection (Siri and Alexa will not love you back).
2) In part 2, the message that came across to me was to stop judging people of today by what happened in the past. For the most part, we aren't the same as we once were. The Kaylons judged all biological life forms on not only the Kaylon's past experiences with their creators, but the human's past with slavery as well, not taking into account their current behavior. Isaac even pointed out that there was no evidence that humans currently exhibit this behavior.
3) In parts 1 & 2, Isaac was just a soldier following orders. The message was to not blindly follow orders given by anyone (especially your leaders). History has too many examples (Hitler 1937) of a society blindly following orders. But when the orders became unexceptable to Isaac, Isaac did what he knew was right.

- I was disappointed that Issac turns into a "hero".
- However, we do judging people of today by what happened in the past for purposes of reparations.

Reparations for what, slavery? Who should pay and who should be paid? There isn't a person alive today that was born into slavery of the 19th century.

Should the evil white man pay? I guess since my family history pretty much put my relatives being in the U.S.A. well after the Civil War, which I can show documented proof, I won't have to pay. My wife's family history also shows no ownership of slaves, so she and her family won't have to pay as well. Is this where we are going with this?

We currently pay billions in reparations to the American Indians.
Multiple presidential candidates are considering slavery reparations. I'm not commenting on the morality or structure of it. Just thinking out loud that Seth may be saying that we should not judge but in actuality many people do judge anyway.

Here's a question: Does a "spaced" Kaylon die? Could we now have thousands of Kaylons walking around, say, on the moon?

Well that was a fantastic two-parter. More action than drama, obviously. But this is definitely a new high water mark for the show.

Given the various plots Issac has been used in thus far, there's every indication that Kaylons do just fine in a vacuum.

It was pretty darn epic. I wonder how many earthlings/krills died in the 2nd part episode?

Killed off a bunch of red shirts on the Orville which seems a lot bigger on the inside than the external shots indicate and with a crew that is as large as necessary for any task. To be fair the Enterprise looked a lot larger.

What happened to all the EMP zapped Kaylons? Seems the tchnology the Admiral wanted could be gotten from them. Norm could revive them!

I was rooting for the Cylons to show up with Tricia Hefler, Grace Park and Katee Sackhoff. Missed their weekly cameo shots with not having them.

Seth MacFarlane is taking his cue from Pixar where you create episodes around emotions.
this whole season has been emotions

They do a really good job of having a simple, approachable story, yet wrapping it up with all The Feels™. The show has heart!

Just looking back at the standard ATOT "I HATE ANYTHING NEW" comments

That looks horrible.

If that trailer is any indication, it won't make it past the first season.

Here's hoping it's just a bad trailer.
