Again, I'm going to point to ST:TNG
Their first and second season had stuff like this:
...and this...
...and things like "Data getting drunk from a virus", racists characters, terrible effects, and I could go on and on and on and on.
I remember when everyone said Gotham wouldn't last one season. Or Supergirl. Or Agents of Shield. The Orville is going to last more than one season.
The fact it has a fan-base and is getting good ratings means it's providing something a lot of people want to see. You don't appear to be in that group, so luckily you're not forced to watch it. It'll do fine without you.
Don't you dare start talking some trash about the Skant.Again, I'm going to point to ST:TNG

Early numbers are in: The Orville pulled a 2.6, which was behind football (as you'd expect), but surprisingly enough, ahead of the Emmy's (and by half a point!)

The early numbers will see larger swings once they get adjusted to better account for the football overruns. Still, The Orville's early numbers last week were 2.3, so the second episode may have done better than the first once all is said and done (and tabulated).
Can we please not talk about the Skant (or Angel One) again, like ever?Don't you dare start talking some trash about the Skant.
Oh it'll lose a whole point, maybe more. As long as you aren't getting preempted, the post-football slot is the cushiest slot on Fox's schedule. But The Orville is doing well enough that were it to take a sizable hit, it would still have good ratings for a Thursday. So far it's not showing any signs that it's at risk of being on the bubble, which for a sci-fi program (and one on Fox no less) is a gorram miracle. We will see when happens this week once its moves to its intended Thursday slot and overlaps (the only) football game
You should watch it - assuming that the second episode is characteristic of future episodes. I'll admit that the story telling is a little slap-dash but personally I don't have a problem with that as long as the story moves along and they have somewhat plausible explanations for how things happen. A show like this isn't a drama so I don't expect perfection. I expect some tongue-in-cheek humor with lots of genre references so the story almost becomes an after thought. It's still important and can make or break the show but it's not as high up on the priority list as it would be for straight scifi.I want to watch this show but I only have so much cringe in me...I think i used it up with the Office...tell me i should watch this?
DONALD TRUMP HAS A BIGGER FAN BASE THAN SUPERGIRL!!!!

I have to admit that I mildly enjoyed the second episode. To do so I had to look past the fact that the show has very little original content. I found myself accurately predicting exactly what was going to happen 10-20 minutes into the show. McFarland (or whoever is writing the scripts) is simply recycling themes and ideas from past series and jumbling them together into a contemporary format using modern themes.
I will continue to watch but if the show continues to lack much originality ... not for very long. There is no joy in knowing how the story is going to go ... before the first commercial.
Yeah the whole 'inexperienced officer gets command, makes poor decisions which turns many remaining characters against them but learns from it and becomes loved by those same remaining characters as they save the original command characters' is terribly worn.
I honestly think some of you guys are being a little to critical of a Seth Macfarlane show though. I'm not sure what some of your guys's expectations are but they seem a little high. I suggest you start aiming a little lower. Mainly because it's a Seth Macfarlane show.....some of you need to realize that and then reign in those expectations.
I thought it was okay. Strange how the Krill are such bad shots though. They took what... 200 shots at the Orville landing party and only managed to graze the Captain in the shoulder?
Yes, with a serious story line around it.Could that have a joke?
Be interesting to see if at some point they introduce a new red uniform guy only to have him get killed within 30 seconds of landing on an alien planet.
Just got done watching the first episode and thought it was ok. Overall I liked it. It had some funny moments then some drama some action and then a little character development. It kept my attention so I went ahead and dl'ed the second episode so we'll see how it goes.

I think a lot of people feel Seth is tapped out. What between Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and god knows what else, he has a specific style of humor that has probably been overexposed at this point.what is everyones problem with seth anyway? i don't get it.
