Star Trek spoof The Orville (by Seth MacFarlane)

I spent most of the episode trying to figure out how the f*** they got Charlize Theron to do a cameo for this POS. You know it's not the money and I can't believe it's for Macfarlane. I wonder if she's a closet scifi geek. That would be wild.

I'm pretty sure it is MacFarlane. She co-stared in a movie with him as well.

That was probably the weakest episode since the premiere just on the basis that it was trying too hard at some points and not hard enough at others. But I still enjoyed it, both because I didn't see the time travel hook coming, and because I can appreciate when the solution to a problem is an "antique" power drill.

And yes, that was a great practical joke.

I like the mix of "old-new" that they're putting in the show. Watching Seinfeld on the main screen FTW!

Jokes are meant to be funny, and all the jokes they have ever attempted, have fallen flat.
Mr. potato face was dumb. Amputated leg, then the "wimpy" leg was worse than dumb.
Getting hit by the amputated leg was just stupid (as was it "falling" through the ceiling), and the size didn't even match up.
Mento "joke" at the begining? Pffftt.
Bubbles in space, I don't even know where to begin how silly that was.

Overall, I give this episode a C again. Nothing in it was memorable.

I would laugh if there was humor, but all that came back is a 404.

I am kinda liking it now. Now that I know the direction they are going and the low bar they set in the beginning, I am actually enjoying it. The last time traveling episode was dumb, but the one before that was awesome. Any show that can bring Liam Neeson is a winner. You won me over buddy, I'm a fan now

Really. I think this only works for diehard MacFarlane fans. I watched years of "The Family Guy" and consider that 10x as funny as Orville. These kind of attempts at gags mostly just fall flat in live action.

The gags also obliterate any value as a drama, when they interject lame attempts at humor everywhere. Things that are epic dreadful, are the cameos by the Norm MacDonald bad CGI Blob, and Seth MacFarlane's "acting". He is terrible in live action, and should really stick to voice acting.

People who are not liking it, the problem is that they are still expecting some spectacular comedic spoof of Star trek, like Hot shots or Scary movies or Wrongfully accused. Well its not, accept it as a star trek fanfilm, with some witty but mostly lame jokes here and there. The 4th episode really defines what this show is about. The story was exactly like some TNG story, retold by a fanfilm.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. Watch the scene with the 1st officer and Security officer are searching through the chick's room, they used music from the original Star Trek movie. The music was taken from the Klingon scenes. This show is more ST than STD ...

You said it, my standards are just higher than the audience they are targeting, and that audience seems to be, if you like Seth, you like the show, if you don't care for him/ his humor, then the show is meh.

I came to the show with low expectations and was ready to have just a few laughs with ST jokes but the show caught me by surprise. I'll keep watching it.

I think the problem is, the show doesn't know what it wants to be.
It looks like they have a rough draft of the direction they want to go, then they sprinkle in the lame jokes, add more dumb scenes (Bot sex, get the guy to eat glass & a cactus then eat a gun!, The fire suppression system is on fire... Smoke Screen in space... and on it went.)

It doesn't really have any competition at this day/hour it is on, and it is better than the other crap that is on CBS or NBC or ABC, so it wins by default, but, it is just disappointing in the overall direction it has taken. Remove the lame jokes, ditch the stupid scenes that come with the lame jokes, and it will be a more entertaining show.

Someone mentioned it would have been better as a cartoon series, and I would agree.

Oh, and for what it is worth, they are clearly thinking in two dimensions. They forget they are in space, where there is another pesky dimension to deal with, so the whole 'smoke screen' they just did tonight is incredibly face-palming.
