Trek has the most expandable universe, IMHO. It can keep going and going and going... (Well, maybe not)...

Wars and LoTR are the most mainstream, and hence they are least geeky.
Trek is pure geek, even in the films, War and Rings have things the common (non-geeky) people can relate to/cope with, hence they are not as geeky.

I love the original 3 Star Wars. Star Trek was pretty bad in my opinion. Couldn't make it through LOTR. I cant get into fantasy movies.

forgive my bland manner of speech...

i just meant that Trek seems to have a greater level of detail. i guess when it all comes down to it though, it relates to the complexity of the mythology. from that view I'd have to say Tolkien's universe was simply different - obviously less technical but much more complex but in a different way. let's face it, both are pretty damn geeky!

edit: the differences are probably also due in part to the times in which each was created... and the societal constructs from which the author(s) came.

But yeh, i have read the books, much more poetry in them than the movies. Just Tolkien's style, i suppose.

I concur.

I find Trek to be the most enjoyable, too. I think that the character development across all of the series that I've seen is great-- you end up really getting to know (and usually care about) the characters, but when I saw LOTR and Star Wars, I just didn't really care what happened to the characters. The stories weren't bad, but I just wan't overly interested.

IMO, Star Trek>LOTR>Star Wars

btw i enjoy them all, just for different reasons.

Trek - i enjoy the way the crew can say something that sounds cool & techy but probably makes no scientific sense at all.

LOTR - grew up reading Tolkien and it is fascinating to see the movies - we always used to say that they would never be able to make the books into movies due to the scale & complexity.

Wars - light saber duels, force powers... wookies... :thumbsup:
