Widescreen is normal because that is the format that the movie was originally filmed in.

Pan and Scan is the full screen version you see that is created for people who want the entire screen used. In reality you see less of the movie this way, but some prefer it.

Pan and scan is regular TV. Not letterboxed/widescreen. As far as DVDs are concerned, a normal DVD will be widescreen. Pan&scan is thankfully beginning to disappear.

Stores are now smart to not post the price, so they could easily match others.

well i know that ifyou buy now from bestbuy.com.... then they do drop the price next week... they will charge you the cheaper price...

when we got the 2-disc lord of the rings i preordered it for what i thought was 19.99 but only got charged the discounted rate of 14.99 that they ran in their add the following week.

basically they are listing a preorder price now... but if you do preorder you will still get the cheaper price.

Ahem... What's "B&M" mean? Um, and "ATOC" = ?

I really hope you are kidding, Mr. Golden member.

If you arent...

B&M = Brick and Mortar. A real store, like at a mall or smth
ATOC = AotC = Attack of the Clones aka Star Wars Episode II
Sorry, I wasn't kidding. I finally figured out Brick and Mortar in a different thread and came rushing back here to try to retrieve a shred of dignity. Too late. Clones, yeah. Sorry about that too. I ordered the 3 original SW movies (DVD) yesterday. My Star Wars IQ is kinda wretched. I saw the first, not sure I ever saw Jedi or the 3quel. Speaking of clones, did anybody see the Simpsons the other day, the first part with the Homer clones? Haven't laughed that hard in a while. Have it on tape.

Why in the world would you buy those "fake" original Star Wars movies on DVD? From what I have read they are basically VCD or at best Laserdisc rips. The real DVDs have not been officially released and likely won't be for a few more years.

Where did you order the 3 original Star Wars movies on DVD?? AFAIK they have not been released yet, nor will they be released anytime soon. The rumor I heard was that Lucus wanted to release the DVDs IN ORDER, ie. Ep1, Ep2, Ep3, then Ep4 (Original SW), Ep5 (Empire Strikes Back), etc.
My research yesterday indicated that the 3 original SW movies were never released on DVD, but were on Laserdisk. There are more than one set of bootleg DVD's of the "Trilogy" out there, and afficionados have much to say about their quality, etc. The general thinking is that if George Lucas doesn't see fit to produce the DVDs of the original films, one should not feel in the least guilty picking up the bootlegs. People seem to think that Lucas, if and when he does release DVDs of the Trilogy, will change things around and it won't be the same experience - another reason to get the bootlegs. You can get the 5 Star Collection, which includes all 3, and is DVD9, but it's generally regarded as inferior, AKA not as good as the earlier released DVD5 version (both Special Edition). Both versions are available at Movieshop. The DVD5 version is as separate DVDs, shipped at $9.99 anywhere in the world, and is cheaper than the 5 Star Collection.

Oh yeah he can be a golden member w/o knowing those accroymns. I believe he hangs out in other sections of this forums, not that much in the hot deal I guess.

BTW this looks to be a nice price. But I be spending those bucks on another, SPIDERMAN. Absolutely love SPIDERMAN.

Yeah, I only first visited Hot Deals a few weeks ago and am just getting into it. I've started shopping for DVD's and Spider-Man seems like a good one to get. I've seen a number of posts from enthusiastic people. You probably noticed the thread in this forum on getting the new 2 disk release for around $15. I probably could have figured out that acronym if I'd tried hard enough and saved myself some embarassment, but I decided to just ask. What the hell!

I started doing some research on this last night and let me send you to a couple of links. The first is graphic and GREAT and easy to understand. The second is 16 pages (if you print it as a PDF, and I did!), and very patiently instructs the user (technical and non-technical alike) in the world of anamorphic DVDs. Both links explain Pan and Scan very clearly and lots else.

Hahaha, I heard he denied Spielberg the chance of directing episode III. But no matter, ATOC was still good and worth $10 on dvd. Thanks for the deal info, gonna save me $7.

Odd. The TRU ad that came with my Washington Post on Sunday shows a $19.99 price.

Good Luck, I've had terrible experiences with BB and price matching. Hell, they don't even price match between the B&M and the .com. Do they even pricematch on DVDs though? Nice fallback plan if it works, just get a copy of the ToysRUs circular and go straight to BB. Then walk to CSR counter and PM

Lack of faith? Trekie losers?

Lucas lost his connection with that Jar-Jar movie big time. He at least climbed out of the dumpster with Attack of the Clones although I must disagree with him over the name being somehow retro clever and a good idea. The movie still didn't come close to touching the depth of the original trilogy and at best is a great blockbuster extravaganza. Not however a classic.

As far as Trekies goes, I dislike that Science fiction which has a vast depth and bredth is automatically brings Star Trek connotations although it's hardly a top example of the genre. Star Wars original trilogy was at least a saving grace from it.

Well, that's my rant, I'm sure all appreciated it.

Anyway, it seems worthwhile to see some of the footage on the making and stuff.

Eh, the babe alone is worth at least $1.50 - ok, two bucks but that's as high as I'll go.

Actually, I thought it was pretty good, and my four year old loved it so we'll probably get it.

Hey, the Barbie's are pretty hot, too! (not for me! my wife collects them).

Why would you buy laserdisc rips of the original series? Sheesh. I've got the original tapes and the special edition tapes - that's good enough until the DVDs come out. I can wait.

Maybe you forgot that there was comedy relief in the original's, a couple of droids if I recall right.
Call Jar Jar what you will but it is in the SW universe.
I don't care for him myself but he's much better than the EWOKS beating up IMPERIAL FRIGGIN STORMTROOPERS anyday.
By the way that never happened, PM me if you want to know the real story about how the EWOKS were all brutally destroyed and the Empire crushed the pathetic REBEL SCUM.
:|

Anyways thanks again for the post, any more deragatory comments will be responded with your home planet being torched by my Death Star, you can join the EWOKS.

Good luck - and I don't mean that as sarcasm. I've tried price matching like that before at Best Buy with ads for stores that aren't primarily known for electronics, and the manager would just say they don't price match stores that aren't "true" competitors of Best Buy (ie: Circuit City, etc).
