Good question. I didn't see an insert in yesterday's S.F. Chronicle. I printed the ad linked in this thread and figure I can bring it with me and it may help. If the deal won't be honored in California, I'd prefer to save myself the trouble of being denied, of course.
I live 60 mile north of SF and I got the ad in my paper...

If you are talking about CC, it's not true. They are doing very well and their profits have been increasing = the typical measure of how well a company's doing.

I dont know how this has turned into a completely off topic discusion, o wait, it was me

CC is NOT doing well.

Circuit City said it had expected a 'small profit.' "

I am kinda bias, and we are in an economic slump. BUT if you go to BB and CC, whos parkin lot is full, and whos is not?

sorry for the crap.
My apologies. I guess I should stop watching TV news programs. I could swear they said people were cocooning and that CC was doing nicely with increased revenues. Maybe I blew a circuit?

I just called my local TRU....oh my god what an ordeal. Anyway, after the annoying recording repeated itself about 200 times I called another store that wasn't so local and they said that they go on sale tomorrow for $9.99. He also said they are not taking any more presales. I was going to call another store and see if they were taking pre-orders but I opted not to because of their sh*tty phone system. So hopefully I'll get there before they sell out tomorrow. I'm in Southern California by the way....
I'm in N. California. They open at 9:30 AM tomorrow and I'll try to be there for the turn of the key. If they sell out before I get my WS version, I'll try to enjoy the circus and move on. I'm not into making a special trip to set up a presale.

Just pre-purchased three of these at my local TRU! I didn't even know they did this, but when I asked how many they expected to have on hand tomorrow, the manager said "maybe none, if the pre-sales continue like they have been going."

Best thing is that the check out lady told me that they will also price match any printed ad for the LotR release. Don't even have to go to the counter -- they do it right in line. Picking up some of these for some friends tomorow too!

Sweet!

At the local TRU here in PA, the general manager told me point blank that the price for the DVD is 14.99 and only the VHS will be 9.99.
I purchased 2 pre-sales of the widescreen DVD, in the hope that he got his facts wrong.
If they are 14.99, i'll just get a refund on my deposit and go elsewhere.
Oh Well, here's keepin my fingers crossed

I wonder why CC is not doing well; they sell the exact same stuff as BB does and for similar (sometimes better, sometimes worse; also can always PM bb's price if needed). I think it's their color scheme. That red and white just doesn't stand out like the flaming yellow and blue of BB. Red on white just doesn't work IMO. Maybe they need a mascot, like that idiotbox that BB has. How about a walking Circuit; and when he puts his hands together he gets electrocuted.

There is one major difference between BB and CC. CC employees are working under comision. In my BB uniform, I was talking to a CC employe, and he said if he doesnt like a customer, he will not help them. Being comisioned also encourages pushing. And customers like to make the decision on what to buy.

Last time i was in a CC the colors were red and black. Red induces anger, and black is dark, and does not make people happy. This is why microsoft went with green and BLUE with their windows desktop. Yellow is also a color that makes people happy.

I think people just feel better at BB, its bright and chearful, at CC its dark.

Anyone with me on this one?

Personally, I think its their stores. Within an hour of me, there are 3 BBs, and 3 CCs. They're all right near each other
(what I mean by that is, theres a CC/BB right near to each other 10 minutes from me, and CC/BB right near each oher, around 45 minutes to the north and south of me). The BBs are always much nicer stores (and the BB near me isn't even that great compared to the others). This ESPECIALLY goes for the CC near me (anyone from the Princeton NJ area will know what I'm talking about)

funny thing, I bought a ht systems from cc and when I was loading it,the delivery truck was parked by...they have bullethole decals on the side of the truck...next time you see one of their delivery trucks look on the left side...I couldn't believe they purposely put them on there.

Hmm going a little off topic here. Is it true if you buy AOTC at BestBuy, they will give you a free SW calender?

That's what it says in the ad, if it wasn't that's false advertising

Regarding Circuit City: just the overall layout and attitude of the employees. It's like walking into a half lit store, with crap scattered in different departments that doesn't make a lot of sense. Our local CC has cell phones next to VCRs next to printers next to computers next to big screen tvs, etc etc. It's like a 5 year old randomly picked out the locations for everything. Don't get me started on the employees. I've walked in with the intention(s) of buying cell phones, dvd players, tvs, game systems, etc, spending countless hours looking at the descriptions and talking to people, getting information about them. The only problem was the only people willing to talk to me were other customers. I can't remember the last time I was in CC making a purchase where one actually came up to me, asked me how I was doing, and if I needed help. For the cell phone purchase, dvd player purchase, tv purchase, game system + games + accessories purchase, I ended up going to Best Buy where they at least *ACT* like they care. I work retail so I know most of the time the employees don't care as much as they should. At least at BB I have people ask me how I'm doing, what I need help with, and give me information (not necessarily right all the time though) on the product I'm looking at. It gets annoying almost when I go to BB having every employee ask me how I'm doing, but at least they put forth an effort.

To me, Circuit City is just like CompUSA - crappy store with crappy people. That's the reason why I don't shop at either of those stores, and if I need to make a purchase at a retail store, Best Buy is the one that gets my money.

Some people get all the luck, not only are we severly limited in computer stores in my town, we didn't even get a TRU ad this week, to add insult to injury they're selling the DVD for $19.99 according to the rep I just talked to on the phone. Maybe y'all can get bestbuy.com down to 9.99 so I can order it from there or something...

What location did you go to? Walmarts are notorious for PMing just about anyone except online stores. Why did they say they wouldn't??

I'm wondering if we still get the free calendar if we pricematch BB with TRU's ad. Some one let us know if they were successful!

I've been in BB one time only. I couldn't get anyone to help me after 15 - 20 minutes and I walked out. I went back in determined to get service, but failed to get any. I went in CC the other day and someone came up to me immediately. Well, it was the day after they reopened after renovation, so I guess they were on their best behavior. From what I read in Anandtech forums, BB's customer service sucks, too (independent of my own one-time experience).

Guess I probably talked with someone who didn't know anything then...I'm not suprised. I don't really know any of Wallyworld's policies other than I hate being there.

They just told me they wouldn't do it.
Maybe I should go up there in a litte bit and try.
Nah, I want my free SW calendar from BB anyhow!
Think I'm gonna try the PM there.

Oh Btw, I called, didn't try it in person, this was done in Orange Park, FL.

I'm more than willing to admit service varies from store to store, location to location. You could get great service at one store one day, crappy the next day at the same store. Just from the 4 BB in my area and the 2 CC's in my area, I can walk into any one of those 4 BB and get treated like a regular customer, whereas I couldn't get a CC employee to notice me if I had 100lb of C4 strapped to my chest while packing more heat than Keanu in The Matrix lobby scene. I'm sure if I went to a different CC in a different area, that the situation would be different, but at least here in Dallas, CC sucks.

Oh, by regular customer I mean a regular 40 year old wearing regular clothes, not being treated like your some punk just because you're young and asian. (Typical stereotyping)

RB - yeah, well it's pretty funny here. New BB just opened up by me....I walk in, grab a cart, put a subwoofer cable and some speaker wire it in.....wait in the isle for 30 minutes and *no one* even asks if I need anything. I proceed to tell the idiot at the door what a piece of sh*t store this one is and that they will not see my money again. Again, this is a Sunday @ 5pm...store was not crowded and I'm with a cart in a high markup area. Hope they had fun putting everything in my cart away.

Probably for the best, since I went to CC, had three people ask me if I needed any help *before* I reached the audio section and then picked out my Velodyne.

I agree though, it does depend on the store, as I have not had that problem at other BB stores. Actually, since I decided to try CC again, I have not had that problem either.

Never had a problem with anyone doing a PM....'cept for Target no longer doing PM's on pop.

Just my 2 cents....

My local Wal-mart had a TON of them in stock with a big sign overhead: $9.99. Sure beats fighting the crowds at ToysRUs!

Got mine.Got to TRU at 9:05 and by 9:15 there was a line of at least 50.By 9:30 it was well over 100 people and it was pouring rain. They only let people in 5 at a time so there wasnt a mad rush. They had carts of movies and they had employees hand out 1 per customer. Was kinda like a Black Friday sale.I was back home by 10am and I am getting dry.
