I bought episodes 1 2 and 3 on blue ray and love them, especially since Phantom Menace was such a poor transfer on DVD. But I passed on the original three, preferring to wait for the 3d version. If the price had been this for all of them when I purchased, I may have gotten the full set.

I have seen the original three at least 8 times apiece, if not 20. I can wait.

that probably means a 3D box set in 2020 at the earliest.

Yep. We do. But buying Star Wars movies is like buying a gaming PC. There is always going to be a better, snazzier version available in a year. Or five years. Or ten. If you hold off on buying for a "definitive" version, you'll never have a copy.

Ugh trying to resist. Ever since I got my projector installed, I've had the urge to watch all of the movies.

Watching them all made me appreciate Eps 1-3 a little more. At first I thought that Hayden Christensen was a horrible actor, but after a marathon viewing session of 1-6 in that order, I realized that he was actually doing a pretty good Darth Vader impression. It was just hard to take issue with his stilted, odd way of talking in the original films since you thought it was due to his breather or whatever. But no, turns out he was actually a weirdo his whole life! And Luke wasn't just BS'ing about feeling the good in him, he really was trying to be good the whole time! But he had mommy's dead and wifey's dead issues, and got sucked into everything by the Emperor! People often rag on 1-3, but after that viewing then I had to admit they really fleshed out the character of Anakin Skywalker.

I haven't purchased any of the original trilogy since I bought the THX versions on VHS. I'm holding out until Lucas either has a change of heart and lets someone like Robert Harris restore the theatrical releases off of various sources, or he dies and someone more reasonable gets control of the franchise. I don't mind having the SE versions around, but I don't feel that it is really "my" Star Wars without the theatrical cuts, and the DVD versions of those were just terrible quality. Plus, with all the mucking about, it just never seems like the movies are "done", so you just can't feel safe buying them on BR like you can other classics like BTTF, Blade Runner, and Alien/Aliens.

It's not that they didn't flesh out the main characters, it's all the idiotic things that got thrown in unnecessarily. Jar Jar Binks, the insane "metaclorian" count to explain the force, the INANE dialogue ("your skin is soft, not rough, like sand"), and as much as I love Samuel L Jackson, he was as out of place as Chris Farley in the Boston Marathon.

All that being said, I love the Star Wars story, and the story and effects make me enjoy it despite the limitations. I think Phantom Menace got too much criticism, but it was the first after the incredibly long period after the first series, so it was being compared to our glamorized memory. It's the second one - Attack of the Clones - that was horrid, in my opinion. But I forgave all after watching the brilliant final movie.

For reference there was a DVD set made some time ago that included both versions of each movie. But the unedited DVD was letterbox, not widescreen. It looks like crud.

Yup, George stopped getting my money a while ago. Voiced my dipleasure with my wallet.

Much more excited to spend money on the Alien BD set and just pretend like Alien3 and Resurrection aren't even in the box.

Good, no temptation. I'd probably just be mad at myself for buying them anyway. By today's standards the crap they added in the original trilogy special editions look terrible, and then they added even more crap. I want the set... but the version of the set I want will never be seen again.

Ya i would like to find a deal on these, the LOTRO and Harry Potter complete series.

I just wish Blu Ray prices would drop more, i find myself not buying much now.
