compare to those old starwar movies, this one sux and the story in the movie isn't interesting at all. I'd say if it doesn't carry the starwar name, I would give it a 2 star rating.

Damn Lucas. Why not make EP4,5,6 DVD's first? They were the first StarWars movies to be produced, and yet only are available on cheap quality VHS tapes. IMO, EP1 was not all that, with the "cartoony" feel it had. The first 3 movies were more serious, and had a serious storyline and actors which made the future seem more real. EP4 was too cartoony and reminded me of the gay-ass Wing Commander games. Lucas should've made it more military based and more life-like, like the Freespace games.

I think they started with Episode 1 because it was an easy transfer to Anamorphic DVD since much of it was computer generated. The Starwars transfer will be difficult.

I bought the Star Wars Trilogy and Phantom Menace on VCDs. VCDs are like DVDs, but only playable on certain DVD players, and all DVD ROMs. Quality isn't as good as DVDs but comparable. These are licensed and legally distributed in Malaysia, but not in the US. I got mine off eBay for about $55 for all 4 movies. Might be worth a look, if you can't wait that long!

I heard a rumor somewhere about a special feature on the DVD that allows the viewer to change Jar-Jar's appearance so that he has the head of a moose, and talks like Bob Marley.

Rumor has it that the DVD set for New Hope, Empire, and Jedi will be coming out in line with the theatrical release of Episode 2. Rumor also says that the release of the first trailer for Episode 2 will come around Thanksgiving (possibly close to the release of Ep1 on DVD).

As for editing the movie, can anyone think of a movie of this level that couldn't be made better with some of the scenes cut out?

VCDs are cool, but I am waiting for this to get the Dolby Digital soundtrack. I can't wait to hear the pod race on my system. And my Laser Disc player (which has been collecting dust for years) is non-DD compatible, so that isn't worth the effort either.

Well we got ourselves a bonafide genius here. Of course the people upset about ep. 1 will watch 2 and 3. The whole reason people are upset are because of their interest in episodes 4-6. If people didnt care about the end result then they wouldnt be complaining about anything. Thats also why there are no people joining me in fighting for the completion of the Mighty Ducks Trilogy.

Can't crap a Hot Deal thread; it's not possible. But I will dump on Phantom Menace all I want. Lucas is a total money grubber, so he might actually be reading this thread. He needs some advice if he is to ever recover from the plot problems, poor editing, and just all around gayness of the Phantom Menace.

ok, to clear up some fallacies. Eps 4, 5, and 6 are _not_ available only on &quot;low-quality vhs&quot;. They were released (numerous times) on Laserdisc (which is near-dvd quality). Also, in spite of the fact that they will play in your dvd player, VCDs are nowhere near the quality of DVDs. Depending on who encoded them, they sit either just worse or just better than VHS. SuperVCDs get closer to DVD, but the resolution is still much lower and the audio is still only stereo.

BTW, there was never a licensed release of any Star Wars on DVD. It is most likely a pirated rip of the laserdisc or, more likely, the vcd version.
