Hi -

Just got my copy and the game looks well worth it! (I haven't the time to play til tomorrow). Who else has theirs? What server are you playing on. Lets get a list of Anandtecher's playing SWG!

I haven't played it but I have some friend playing. They said the servers have been downright unplayable the first day but they did a server reboot I think or something to that effect and its starting to get better. Has it been ok for you online?

Its problems like this and initial glitches which make me avoid buying 1.0 version software, especially for MMORPG. I don't want to pay the full retail value for the game then pay a monthly charge for the time they need to work the kinks out. 1.0 is still beta to me. I find the 2-4 months and several patches after the game has been out it becomes a much better playing experience.

I'm playing on Tarquinas, and other than the first day problems where all the servers were down, I haven't had any problems. Playing on a:

Athlon 1700+ @ 10x166 (AXP 2000+ speed)
1 GB PC2700
Radeon 9100

I HIGHLY recommend a full GB of RAM. Me and my girlfriend were both playing with 512 MB all weekend, and walking around town was painful Every time we rounded a corner and a new building came into view, everything would freeze for a couple seconds and the hard drive would go nuts. Now with 1 GB, everything is much, much faster. Hardly any disk swapping.

If you play on Tarquinas, look for a Trandoshan named Roukk on Naboo. I'll help you get started.

Very kind of you. Is the lag really that bad on 512 mb of ram? What settings are you using? You have a much better system than I so I was wondering. One other question: is the SOE station login used in launchpad chat? I know it isn't used in game or on the message boards.

This is my system

1 GHZ Athlon
Geforce 2 TI
512 MB SDRAM PC 133

Meets the minimum system requirments. Perhaps I will have to play my free month and then cancel and reactivate my account after I get my new computer built..

As far as processor and video card I think your system is OK. You'll probably get framerates in the teens with all options turne down. But this game is a total memory hog. The fact that there are hundreds of PC and NPC models, plus buildings, etc. means you need a ton of RAM. 512 MB was playable, but more than that is preferable.

I've never played an MMORPG before. Coming from an FPS background, I'm used to 60+ frames per second. So I had to have the extra RAM in order to not go insane.

I can't tell you whether or not you'd enjoy it with your system. I can say that even though 1 GB of RAM is much better, I was still having loads of fun when I had 512 MB.

I thought about picking this game up, but I've become obsessed with Planetside lately, that game is fantastic. I'm glad to hear, however, that some of the bugs/problems have been resolved, but I won't even consider paying for this game until they implement everything that was originally promised.

1 Gig of Ram... tststs... it's getting ridiculous!

Been thinking about Planetside myself. Actually have it laying at home... just couldn't bring myself to brake the seal. Not sure if I keep it.

Whats star wars galaxies like?
Ive heard that it sucks, and costs, monthly.
I cant stand games that cost monthly.
I picked up a copy of eve online a while ago, cos it seemed like my perfect game, create a character, create business`s, upgrade your ships how you like, employ people to help you ect; Just my type of game. A MP Elite type of thing. So i got it home, installed, and it asked me for a credit card number! FCUK this, i took it back and got EF2 instead.
If they insist on charging then they should either, 1) Charge you £30-35 for the initial game, and about £5 monthly, or 2) Charge you £15-20 for the initial game, and about £10 monthly. Not something £35 for the game and £15 monthly.

I've been playing SWG since day one (well day two actually since day one was impossible!) and so far I really like it. It reminds me of when Everquest was new and we were all helpful to each other and enjoyed adventuring and discovering stuff. SWG is like that. I have no idea how good the end game will be but so far the newbie stuff is a lot of fun.

I was a beta2 tester on till beta3 and I just got a refund on my preorder at EB. It just might be that I am already bored of playing SWG or maybe it's the bar that the devs set for the game was so high that they couldn't live up to expectations, but I won't be playing it. Now maybe in 6months when they add back all the stuff that they had to cut out to make the release date and after the space expansion comes out I'll take another look at SWG, but for the mean time I won't spend any money on this game. Don't get me wrong the game is as good as EQ or DAoC, the graphics are really sweet and it has some features that those other 2 games don't have but again it's not the game it set out to be, the game I want to play...

I agree I cannot wait for the space expansion... or the player owned vehicles or player built cities and rideable pets! Was this all originally promised? I have only been keeping tabs on the game for a few months if that. I had to create a new SOE login because the email account I originally signed up with is... gone. So the last time I checked on it might have been quite a while ago or only a few months.

I'm guessing 6 months until 1/2 the stuff you listed is implemented.

man i was hooked on UO for years, paying monthly isnt enough they always slam you with expansion, its gets annoying after a while. i am personally taking a break from MMORPG's unless something REALLY cool comes out.

I am playing on Tarquinas currently as a Wookie (Well when it comes back up anyway). Can't remeber his name but I will post it on here. BTW, the game is playable with low settings, especially VSYNC disabled (on my system)

I get about 10-15 fps in town
In the wilderness 20 - 29

Feel free to look on Naboo for Roukk (I'm a Trandoshan Scout/Marksman/Medic/Entertainer) or Chaccakkan (my girlfriend is a Wookie Artisan/Brawler/Scout), either of us would be happy to show you the ropes and help you get started.

I am working towards Bounty Hunter. Only thing might be an overpopulation of Bounty Hunters. I may end up a Smuggler instead.

Agreed. The pricing model for these games is rediculous, especially for people living outside of the US. Look at what happened to the people who paid for Motor City Online or whatever it was called. EA shut down the servers and people were left with nothing except for a useless CD.

I agree. We pay monthly, to get well run, fast, stable servers, and thats great for people in the US, but everywhere else its a waste. We get crap pings. And they charge us for it. The cheek!

I'm almost to expert rifleman. I'm about a 5th of the way there, now that I'm actually going for it. I would have been there earlier, but I was busy earning lots of money jumping shuttles to different cities delivering crap. It's nice to run around the planet with 30k in the bank

I should be expert either by the end of the day today or the end of Tuesday if I don't hit it today. This game ROCKS.
