From the parent perspective its ok. My son loves it, but I personally like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot on Nickelodeon a lot more.

it's on a less available channel than clone was, and probably trying to get it more available being why they put it there.

How does it compare with the 1990s series or the 3 live action movies? Or was it after your time...

It's <the real, original> Star Wars <that everyone loved>. You could shit a R2D2 droid and it would get renewed for a 2nd season.

FTFY

P.S. Only seen the pilot so far. They should put it on Sunday on ABC at 7pm like they did with the pilot. Don't even know when it's on now.

The new TMNT series is MUCH, MUCH better than both the 1990's series and the first two live action movies. Have not seen the third (most recent) live action movie so I cannot comment.

The new series has something to appeal to all age groups. For parents, there are tons of references to stuff from the 80s and 90s (or earlier). E.g., original star trek, he-man, original TMNT series etc., as well as a lot of modern references (E.g., "Krang has just started on the diet known as Atkins. Krang has already lost 9 krang units of weight."). There is even one episode that pokes fun at the dungeon and dragons crowd. For kids, there is a lot of action and silly kid humor (Michaelangelo is particularly good for this). All in all it is just well done. Animation is great too.

That said, the last 5-6 episodes have been a bit off. I'm hoping the series returns too its roots a bit because the latest season has been iffy. Seasons 1 and 2 are great though.

Rebels was renewed for a 2nd season.
I was surprised at that.

ratings for Rebels is 1/2 that of Clone Wars season 5. (and a fraction of Clone wars season 1)
It also costs a fraction of the price to animate, which is surely an argument in its favor.

I think its good so far. I thought the first few episodes did a great job of giving the star wars feeling.

Probably a loss leader or whatever they call it when they know they have a cash cow movie coming out in 2015. TV show tie-in is "free" marketing for the movie and possibly vice versa. If they make 3 new movies as planned, this will be a nice income supplement.

how did they manage that?
Lower quality models and textures. Massive reuse of sets and characters. Fewer (and cheaper) voice actors.

Their home planet (where roughly half of the episodes take place) is a featureless plain with a simple block style town. Compared to the previous cartoon they aren't spending nearly as much time creating new characters and sets, and those they do are much simpler.

TCW was designed to come close to movie quality animation (especially after they upgraded their render farm and software mid-way through the series). Rebels is only attempting budget TV animation, which is fitting since it runs on a low viewership channel that not many people receive.

Season 2 trailer out! I liked this almost as much as the episode 7 one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av8GjpGK98A

Did they seriously get James Early Jones and Ian McDirmad to reprise their roles?? It's going to get VERY interesting when Ahsoka crosses blades with Vader. Also as expected it looks like Barriss offee has turned full Inquisitor.

But honestly, I think the thing that made me jump with glee was that smuggler/hustler guy from Clone Wars making it in Rebels. He's awesome.

episode 7?

I didn't watch the end of clone wars so don't know what happened to Barriss after osoka was found innocent because Barriss framed her.

but thought Barriss died in Order66?

Season 2 trailer looks a lot better than season 1 but still looks like it's a little too much token Star Wars fan service and not something really interesting on its own.

Clone Wars seemed a lot more interesting to me, although I didn't really watch it either.

I don't get why we have 'Ye of little faith in Disney' people. Have you seen Aladdin? Lion King? Wreck-it Ralph? The amount of quality movies Disney has put out is far beyond any other studio.

I don't get why you're comparing movies made from one of Disney's heydays and one of the rare original Pixar movies in the past decade to a CGI TV show? Just because it's all Disney doesn't put them on equal footing. I think Disney's TV stuff especially has been pretty awful the past decade or two.

Looks like the clone crew showing up so soon is rebels was planned from not being able to finish clone. Part of the discussion mentioned that the plan when they got to the final season of clone wars would be to have order 66 occur during middle/late season and then have the wrap up episodes show the surviving main characters post episode 3.

Yep, but then the "best star wars news in years" happened and disney bought it out. Clone wars gutted, episode arcs axed mid production, Star Wars Rebels' budget slashed to tighten the profit margins for gee golly whiz stoopid kids that surely won't notice the difference etc. Thanks, Disney. You know a lot of people like to rage on George. But at least he always pushed the envelope. He would never leave arcs unfinished or chalk up technical work as cheap "good enough" tier graphics to save a buck.
