I was mildly disappointed in this episode but the third act duel saved it. I thought the constant lightsaber gyro copters were kind of dumb. I think Maul falling back on being evil so soon was also a blown opportunity. He could have been an excellent grayish anti hero character that could act as a counter weight to Ahsoka from the opposite end of the spectrum. Now he's a cliche bad guy again. I also would have liked to have seen more out of Trayus Academy than a tired old "It's a super weapon" plot point. Even something about the mass shadow generator would have been something.

And why would Yoda tell Ezra to go to a sith temple to get a sith holocron? What in blazes could he be thinking? That's like giving a stick of dynamite to a teenager.

what does Yu-Gi-Oh have to do with this?
For someone named Jedi you sure are ignorant in the ways of Star Wars.

That was Episode I's big orchestral song, used when Maul was fighting the jedi.

We probably won't know until well into Season 3. I'm a little disappointed that they left it open ended instead of giving definitive closure. The show isn't about Ahsoka like Clone Wars was any more.
If ever. It was purposely left ambiguous, and the showrunner has essentially stated he's done with her. If someone else wants to do something with her (be it Rebels or some other media) they can say she lived, otherwise Disney can wave their hands and say she died there. It's wholly unsatisfactory, especially as we know she has to die soon for Episode IV.

The best part of this season was the callbacks to characters from other Star Wars series and movies, aside from the Chopper bottle episode, and even then I'm not sure that tactical droid wasn't in Clone Wars somewhere!

One thing I've always thought when watching Clone Wars, and even this season of Rebels, is that eventually Ahsoka is gonna die, and probably at Vader's hands. This would have been a good time to do it, but at the same time Rebels kinda needs the non-Rebels characters. I think they should focus less on the crew of the Ghost and just do a general Rebel anthology stories. Show Boba Fett, Chewy, Han, Obi-wan, Maul, Jabba, Bothan spies, Lor San Tekka, Cad Bane, etc. This show operates in a great time period because everyone is pretty much fair game.

Thrawn's cool, but I wish they had gotten the voice actress for Kreia to do the voice for the sith holocron instead of that ventress voice actress. The holocron is after all from Traya Academy.

Looks pretty good. Caught up on last season a month or so ago, they did a pretty good job of bringing back the clone wars cast. Was a little wonky how vader showed up in a fighter by himself and took out most of the rebel fleet. Overall pretty good, don't think ashoka died though, vader wasn't much further out and we know he survived.

Maul back also. And unlike the last year(s) of CW, graphic quality still looks pretty good.

She doesn't have to die. She is not a Jedi. Having a lightsaber does not make you a Jedi. The Jedi is an order and Jedi do exist in IV. Obi Wan, Yoda etc.

Kinda makes you wonder why they even need people when droids can just do everything, including pilot ships.

Haven't watched it yet, probably will tomorrow. Guessing the odd time slot was due to double length for the premier.

Nice start of Season 3. So by having Grand Admiral Thrawn ,does that mean that the Timothy Zahn book series (story line/characters) might be canon despite Rebels happening before episode IV-A New Hope?

Nope

They decided that the epic star wars trilogy would never happen if they mass produced super mega death ray B Wings as the war would be over in a week. So they opt for crappy Y wings instead.

Rex is now a semi-regular on the show. what about the other 2?

Well I finally caught the season opener. It was okay, but I must admit given how it was promoted I was expecting more. We didn't actually get all that much of Thrawn; a few lines, but no real action. And despite the dark and foreboding nature of the Sith holocron, it didn't have much of an impact in this episode. Ezra was being petulant more than evil.

On the plus side, we do finally get the canon answer/representation for how the rebellion gets its first Y-Wings, in all their worn glory. And the mysterious Governor Pryce finally gets an appearance, after having been mentioned off and on for two years.

Also, this is an odd complaint to make, but they gave Ezra a haircut. Now he's even cheaper to render...

Edit: And poor Brom Titus. He just wants to do a good job

No. But like some of the other elements of the old EU, they're being distilled and woven into the new EU in various ways. What happened in those books is non-canon, but one would expect the now-canon Thrawn to behave much in the same way, with the forthcoming book to firmly reestablish Thrawn's place in the new EU.

It's now up to 2 BBY, according to Wookieepedia.

They have not been seen since their one-off use in season 2. Nor would I expect to see them again. They were supporting characters to flesh out Rex's story in order to allow him to be brought forward to the show. (Side note: I'm surprised Rex didn't space Ezra for his lip)

I can't get into it. It kills me that they are so cheap with animation. There is maybe 10 people rendered...max. Parade day, three people. Command room, 6. Cantina, 3 to 4.

Will not reward this cheapness and cash grab.

Pretty sure Ezra killed more people in this episode than the first two seasons combined. He also did so without hesitation and without a shred of regret and remorse. Perhaps understandable being a soldier in a time of war, but he seems almost kind of cold in his efficiency for killing compared to the innocent bright eyed kid in the original episode. He came off as willing to kill a defenseless imperial officer in cold blood if he didn't get his way.
