Im slightly curious as to what exactly Ren means when he says, "I know what i must do but Im not sure if I have the strength to do it."

Does he mean that he wants to turn to the light side but cant give his lightsaber to Han, or does he want to turn dark but hes not sure if he can kill his father?

Quite honestly, I think its both.
He wants to be good -- but can't.
He wants to be bad -- but knows he shouldn't

Although, I think some of my favorite stuff was the sort of goofy voices that John Boyega would use for Finn. I still giggle a little when I recall his line about being a big deal -- it's just the way he says it.

I still think he had the best showing of all the actors in the movie. Ridley was unquestionably solid, but Boyega just KILLED his role. He's the Han Solo of this round. His comedic timing is impeccable.

Boyega as well. that's how it works.
And for Ep 8 and 9 they will get millions.

Ford got a reported $25M (though Disney says that's ridiculous)

Hamill and Fisher got 7 figures and all of their pay will go up SUBSTANTIALLY once it hits $1B and the backend deals kick in.

Why wouldn't the original cast get paid a lot more for the roles? The new people were nobodies that could be easily replaced before filming. Not sure why people think they should be paid as much as the people everyone came to see. More so I've never understood why anyone cares who gets paid what like it effects them.

R&D is expensive, I doubt they could just come out with a new fighter every 5 years like the US government does.

If they can turn a planet into a weapon that can absorb a sun and use it to blow up multiple planets in one shot, they can pretty much do anything. They probably just don't see the need for anything better than what they already have. An X-wing or Tie Fighter on its own is probably a formidable fighter capable of taking out most spacecrafts, so it comes down to pilot skill.

The way they could improve them is making them drones that can react faster than biological reflexes, but in general they seem to be resistant to using artificial life for anything other than menial tasks.

While the movie was enjoyable to watch, I think a big part of that is due to nostalgia. The plot and the way things were presented such as the Resistance really comes off as a kid's movie with not a lot of thought put into how an actual Resistance would look, act, or be run. Example being how when asked how Han Solo would get them on the planet's surface, he basically says "You don't wanna know" and everyone just silently agrees to this, risking their lives on not knowing.

Still though, the nostalgia just barely edged out the drawbacks and it was fun to watch, but probably never re-watch.

All but Harrison Ford did close to nothing with their careers after Star Wars (Original trilogy) Lucas was kind enough to give them some bonuses for the DVD sales. They all need the money but don't have careers to justify Harrison Ford kind of money.

Mark Hamill didn't just do nothing. He was busy becoming the definitive version of the Joker.

If Star Wars Battlefront is any indication, it's because the rebel snub fighters are just that good.

the rebels had bwings with death star style super lasers that could blast holes in capital ships 3-4 years before the battle of yavin. not sure where all of those went.

Didnt we already see this movie when it came out? Yup, we did, but, I actually liked seeing the older cast, brought back memories. I found it quite predictable at times, but over all it was fun, 8 out of 10.

If you've ever seen the series Andromeda, they explain the need for pilot in a fairly realistic way - something about making quantum choices while following different paths. OK, maybe not so realistic but obscure enough that no one is really going to question it. They need more of that sort of thing in new SW universe.

I haven't seen any posts here complaining about Rey being the lead, but more than people found the dialog "Why are you holding my hand!" "Quit that!" to be a bit awkward and possibly there for some sort of agenda. You can't really say that she does that because she's a bit of a loner as she seemed rather glad to meet "Finn the Resistance fighter" (he's a big deal :biggrin. As I mentioned earlier, I think they could've done a better job to showcase Rey by simply having her take the lead and pull Finn from an area that she knows would be far too dangerous. It would not only showcase her as being strong-willed but also intelligent.

I was speaking to post #130. I actually really liked when Finn grabbed her hand because he was playing the role he thought he should (chivalrous man) because he is not socially adept (having had an entire life as a stormtrooper) and fell into an archetype. It is a sharper jab at the trope IMO. I thought it was a good way to set up their dynamic and set her apart from the traditional female role while staying in action and having a comedic effect.

One of my biggest problems with the movie affects Finn and Rey too. The movie just leaves to much out that helps give our characters this air of believability. That link posted earlier about 25 questions on the movie actually provide a lot of detail that makes the movie make a lot more sense. The problem is... none of it's in the movie. They're sort of emulating a move from Blizzard Entertainment's repertoire, and it's a move that I really, really hate: releasing companion works to your main work that are recommended to truly understand what's going on. In Blizzard's World of WarCraft, there are usually companion novels that explain how certain things came to be. It seems like we've got a similar situation here with The Force Awakens.

I guess I missed the 25 questions thing, what do you feel they left out about Finn and Rey?

I agree with the dialog, but honestly, I don't think it was just limited to Han and Leia. During my second viewing, I was in a pretty bad seat for a dome IMAX showing, so I spent more time listening than looking for details. Honestly, some of the dialog is pretty hokey, and you'd expect better from Lawrence Kasdan and J.J. Abrams. I know... I know... a lot of people will say, "Hey, it's Star Wars", but that's really not a valid excuse.

I'd have to watch it again to get a close hearing of the dialog. From a first viewing, I noticed some rough patches but the flow of the movie was so well done that I had forgotten about them after only a few moments. The movie certainly cruises along at a nice pace but doesn't feel choppy like the prequels.

Although, I think some of my favorite stuff was the sort of goofy voices that John Boyega would use for Finn. I still giggle a little when I recall his line about being a big deal -- it's just the way he says it.

This might just be a flight nerd in me, but when Finn said they should fly low to avoid detection and Han started flying through trees and bouncing on the ground I about laughed out in the theater.
