I think this guy articulates the issues with the movie very well. Under the flashy cinematography and special effects lies a very weakly written film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNAy7yCMyBw
He absolutely nailed it. 100% agreed.

Disney saw the sheep that emptied their wallets for Transformers + toys and followed them.
shocked they didn't hire Michael Bay for the complete copy over
"If Kylo Ren could do that after taking that kind of hit...how in the fuck are they going to stop him when he's at one hundred percent?"
... so true
Must be told...the truth it must.
I am a fan of Phantom Menace - why couldn't this movie be another Phantom Menace?

"Hi! You are visiting a website that is stealing our content."
He starts by saying that it is worse than the prequels. His opinion is therefore invalid. I can't stand prequel apologists.
A ground crew of 4 people and 8 x wings was enough for the win.
Answer: Shoot him with a bowcaster again.
Well he would probably be less distracted than he was after killing his father so I would expect him to catch it like the sniper shot
Yo Never knew my dad
He never cared about me
Dead Horizon is all my macro-Binoculars see
Moisture farming all my life and not a single drop spilt
My aunt and uncle double suns and sipping blue milk
My annt and uncle double suns I'm sick of blue milk
But then a desert Hobo came and told me....
We all got a chicken-duck-woman-thing waiting for us.
everyday I worry all day about what's waiting in the bushes of love.
He's not a Sith Lord, he's a Knight of Ren. When you look at the visual dictionary you get a close up view of the lightsaber. It explains it as an ancient design and the kyber crystal that is within it is cracked. Also when looking at it from a top down view, you will see that the cross guards are functional and you can not simply hit the corner of the hilt to chop them off. Ren hasn't fully bought into the darkside, which is why he's not as strong as he should be.

Answer: Shoot him with a bowcaster again.
SOOO frickin' lame.
Ah. So all we need to do then is distract him again and then hit him with a bowcaster a few times for good measure. Gotcha.
Ah. Well, they only have his mother but that's gotta be good for something. All you need is to find his other father for him to kill first
Ah. Well, they only have his mother but that's gotta be good for something.
Admit it: It's dumb and requires that we assume his father's death had that impact on him. They don't assume we know he was hit so they have him punch his wound over and over to draw attention to it. If they are that on-the-nose about the wound, why not the distraction?
Why would you take a Sanitation Trooper on a high priority mission?
Commander: "Sir, we may have found the target that can provide us with the location of Skywalker".
Younger version of Gene Simmons look alike villian: "Put an elite team together of 3 10 man strike teams and meet me in bay 5527".
Commander: "You there trash man lets go".
Fin: "Me"?
Commander: "Yeah you, we need you to assist our elite crack team of commandos on a mission".
Fin: "All I do is clean bathrooms".
Commander: "Your qualified because Storm troopers can't shot for shit anyways".
Fins character is so believable.
oddly enough back then I don't think there were even Force Sensitive people, just people that believed vs non-believers like Solo.
What the hell do you think they'd do? Contract out to a janitor service and tell them to not tell anybody where they are?

Whats kinda funny in retrospect about Solo not believing in the force is that everyone in the galaxy knew of Jedi for at least thousands of years. Its hard to believe that no one would believe so soon after they were wiped out. Especially when there are still characters that lived through that time, like Jabba, or even closer to Han, Chewy. A lot of stuff doesnt quite add up if you remember what happens from movie to movie.
Eh? I think most people would assume that killing someone's own father would be distracting esp if it happens after a dialogue where the son is noting how he needs his dad to help him deal with an issue. The stated point of killing his father was to have an impact on him so it would make sense to be more focused (distracted) on the act and the immediate after effects on his own self. There are definitely some gaps in the movie but this one doesn't make the list IMOAdmit it: It's dumb and requires that we assume his father's death had that impact on him.
