Apparently, they predict problems today.

My theater had no special rules, but they did recommend showing up 45 minutes early unless you already printed your ticket.
I think I'll skip food and drink this morning. I dont wanna have to jump up half-way through and miss anything.

^^I saw that too an overreaction in my opinion. Simply say if you're in costume you will be searched I'd bet every theater has a cop in it today.

So I left the theater with mixed feelings. I thought they did the characters very, very well. It felt like a Star Wars cast and crew again. It's great having enough of the old crew back to help ease in new faces.

But what was up with the plot? They lost a chunk of the galactic map and that's why they couldn't find Luke for much of the movie? I still don't know what's happening in the larger galaxy either... There's a New Republic and a Resistance? How much was the New Republic hurt by the "weapon"? Why was the resistance "fleet" apparently just a squadron or two of X-wings?

Thought the movie was very good.

Is it the best movie ever? No.
Are there crazy plot line holes and oversites that the keyboard jockeys are going to jump all over and rip apart? Yes.
Was it a fantastic jump back into the Star Wars world that we've always wanted? Completely.

And that last point is all that I truly cared about. No matter what JJ gave us, there were going to be "issues" with it -- nobody can take a lore of this magnitude and tie it up all nice and perfect. We just have to accept what we know ("Unlearn what we have learned" if you will...) and accept the move for what it is -- a great, funny action packed romp through a galaxy far far away.

4/5 stars

I loved it. Not sure if its nostalgia seeing some of the old faces and even some great lines from the original trilogy or it was just that good. Sure it has some holes but every movie does if you pick it apart. Hopefully a few things will be explained in the following movies. So nice to not see so much CGI and green screen and actual good acting for a change.

I liked it, it was cool. A couple of the parts were nearly tear-inducing from the nostalgia, especially some of the scenes in the Millenium Falcon.

The music score was a bit more subdued than all six other movies; none of it was "in your face" to make memorable scenes. As much as we all love to hate The Phantom Menace, nobody can deny that the fight scene with Duel of Fates blaring is one to remember. Or what about The Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back? Don't get me wrong, John Williams did some ingenious things with the music, but it seems like JJ Abrams didn't let the score take a front row seat. This is something George Lucas did very, very well.

I'm disappointed that the story is basically A New Hope 2.0: formulaic. I also think Kylo Ren's light saber was an uncivilized spin on the galaxy's most civilized weapon. Also, Rey's all-of-a-sudden aptitude with The Force just seemed way too convenient. Fin was also unexpectedly good with a light saber - why?

Overall, I'm glad I saw it, but it doesn't meet the level of the original trilogy. It absolutely blows away episodes 1 through 3, though. That's without a doubt.

Finn was good with the saber because he is trained in combat. That's simple.

And Kylo was badly injured, so he wasn't at his best.

I wonder if Ren will be more mechanical & Vader like next episode especially after the order to get him.

***it would be very funny if the big hologram guy is like the Wizzard of OZ. Some tiny weak guy in person.

Lol was about to say the same. Why wouldn't he be at least pretty decent with it? He was a Stormtrooper for a long time and would've received training with lots of various weapons....

Movie was fun but 90% nostalgia and 10% everything else. Plot and writing were pretty meh in general.

The plot and writing were better than Episodes 1, 2 and 3 combined. I enjoyed it more than 4, 5 and 6. I have not seen 4, 5 and 6 in a while. This is the Best Star Wars film to me.

The film felt more consistent throughout with a decent plot and good dialogue. I can't even think of anything overly done.

I look at Rey realizing she had The Force in her when the lightsaber was calling to her. During the interrogation she felt it getting stronger as she was pushed and withstanding Ren's Force powers. She was not dumb and realized this. Supreme Leader Snoke mentioned The Awakening. Perhaps it had to deal with The Force coming out extremely strong in an individual or perhaps her having had training in the past as a much younger person and it came out.

Also, Ren did not want to kill her. He wanted to convert her to the darkside and train her.

I really liked the movie. I just checked out Rotten Tomatoes and it has a positive rating of 95% with 235 / 248 critics giving favorable reviews.

I saw it yesterday in 3D Imax. It was my first 3D movie ever so I didn't know what to expect. Overall some of the 3D scenes were pretty well done but I'd be just as happy if not happier watching it in 2D.

As for the movie:

Just go see it. Its new and exciting but at the same time also familiar. If you have ever enjoyed Star Wars at all, you will like this movie.

Also expect lots of clapping, even for the previews, if my theater was anything to go by.

Snape kills Kylo.

/No Spoilers Here, Go see it.

They give The Force Awakens a higher score than A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back.

Calling obvious bullshit.

Saw it last night and loved it overall. Took my stepson to see it and I'll be taking my daughter to see it when I have a free weekend soon. The movie was very A New Hope 2.0 as someone mentioned in a previous post. But I think it was well done. I wouldn't have minded them extending the show another 30 mins to go into why Ren decided to go dark and that whole backstory though.

We will get a prequel trilogy for that.

All kidding aside, I thought it was very well done. I have not seen 4, 5 or 6 in a while. From what I can remember, 7 is the best one to me.

Oh I wanted to add too that the humor in this one is just perfect.
Some really funny stuff tossed in there

C3PO: "You may not recognize me because of my red arm"
Chewie talking to the nurse about how "Scary it was" and how "Brave he must have been"
BB8's "thumbs up"
A TON of Fin's lines.
The list goes on and on.

Anyone else notice the dude from Heroes as the X-Wing pilot?

I'm guessing that the new Republic forces, losing the luxury of only needing enough ships for hit and run tactics, are now feeling the constraints of having to police and defend three quarters of the galaxy. The forces used to combat the starkiller were likely only what they could afford to allocate to that system when the first order debuted its new weapon.

I thought she didn't just resist him but reached inside of him, flipping his script. That's why she was talking about how he feared not being as strong as Vader even though she wouldn't know the connection. I also thought he was still trying to get the map from her. He seemed to be using the carrot of training her as a means to get the map. He could have wanted to train her as Siths are prone to take apprentices. (yep, I get he may not be Sith.. They weren't very clear to me if they still existed or if these Knights were another flavor of them.)

I must be the only old person that cried when it happened.
It kind of ruined the rest of the movie for me. When the blew up the planet (which I thought was stupid.. it was too much like the original for me.. it's like they said, let's do the same thing again.. only we'll one up it by killing more than one planet.) I just shrugged and kept thinking it sucked that Solo was toast. I knew it was coming the moment he agreed to do the role, but wow.. it still sucked. I personally blame Leia, whom I'm still confused why she hugged jedi girl rather than Chewbacca. You'd figure that she'd go to the other person who really lost someone.. but what do I know? Solo seemed to know and accept his kid was gone but she had to tell him to try again. Of course I'm just bitter he's dead. Such a stupid way to go, and Ren was so weak compared those who came before. I'm hoping it'll get better.
