When did Jedis start throwing balls of energy the size of whales? Did she go super saiyin?

It happened when Lucas had no say on what Jedi and Sith can or cannot do with their powers. But as far as "lore" is concerned I guess that it would be safe to say that the "old" Jedi and Sith were potentially much more powerful than anything we see in the movies or anything that is suggested in them, old trilogy or new. Additionally, Mace Windu in I believe Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith (can't remember which) said that the Jedi Council might have to inform the Senate that their powers linked to the Force have decreased, and Yoda promptly suggested to keep it silent because revealing out loud that they (Jedi) progressively become weaker would result in multiple defections from their usual supporters, in turn creating more enemy to the Jedi and powering the Sith's plans and just accelerating the whole thing (Sith vengeance).

But, anyhow, with that said, anything "Star Wars" that isn't in the movies or isn't supervised or approved by Lucas directly isn't effectively cannon and should just be considered Expanded Universe material, and in that universe Jedi and Sith can certainly throw Force energy balls the size of a whale if the story writer/lore masters of that concerned story wishes so. And, on a personal preference, I think that the Expanded Universe (most games not referring to the movies or based on them, comics, novels, etc.,) are usually significantly better than any of the six "official" movies, heck I even found the Clone Wars animated series better than the entire new Star Wars trilogy.

Good thing LucasArts has BioWare making this game because LucasArts does not deserve the Star Wars license anymore. They are incapable of not ruining everything...

Man if Bioware had the full funds of a lucas arts films they could make one hell of a Stars Wars Animated Movie.

But George Lucas wouldn't let them unless they let him "contribute" and f- it up.

Btw that female Jedi looked like she was level 59 and the Sith was lvl 60 w/decent gear to me. She aced a bunch of lvl 20's on her way in. The rebel guy was some scrub 48 who didn't know what his class was.

Indeed, and Force Unleashed was approved by Lucas himself, hence my opinion about him not knowing anymore about what he wants for his franchise and its universe, or he just doesn't seem to care anymore, or something along those lines. They're even making a sequel, and they (LucasArts) say that since Lucas himself gave his golden seal of approval to the project of Force Unleashed that it makes the events occurring in that game and the upcoming sequel entirely cannon and thus newly part of the official Star Wars time-line and characters. To each their own, I guess, but I completely disapprove, on a Morrigan-level of disapproval.

Holy shit, why are they bothering with a game when they've produced two CGI cinematics that rape the quality of that "Clone Wars" "movie" that made it to theaters to help kick off the TV series in 2008?

I'm seriously curious how much time/effort/money is being put into these "trailers" considering they ultimately have just about nothing to do with the game, its just pure eye candy...the only "important" plot points we can glean from them is that the Sith are taking over again, sacking republic worlds and Jedi temples.

Actually, no. These trailers are showcasing actual game mechanics, armor, settings, and NPCs.

Go back to the first one. Darth Malgus (a major Sith-faction NPC) walks in with a gunslinging Twi'lek at his side (Eleena Daru, whom the lore entry notes was technically a slave but more his wife). Guess what the very first revealed companion -- almost a year later -- turned out to be? Yep, PC Sith Warriors (Malgus is clearly a Sith Warrior, and in fact you can tell he's in the single-wielding Juggernaut advanced class) get a Twi'lek female pirate named Vette. Malgus is helped by a Bounty Hunter (Shae Vizla), who shows off a number of actual class combat moves: flamethrower, missile strikes from up high (thanks to the jetpack), etc. The Jedi Master Malgus kills (Ven Zallow) chats to his own companion, an astromech droid like R2D2 or T3M4. Etc., etc.

Check out the dissections at Darth Hater or another TOR site. None of the details in the videos, screenshots, webcomics, etc., are accidental.

So Darth Malgus is the guy they dragged that unconscious rebel up to so he could get the kill? Were they power leveling him?

actually yes

considering how huge of a nerd you have to be defending these trailers, you should also have caught on to the meaning of "just about". I didn't say nothing, I said just about. If you think the gameplay is going to be anywhere near what those trailers are showing us other than the absolute basics (Star Wars, classes, sides) then you're in for a huge disappointment.

real gameplay

notice even the beginning of this trailer is heavily cinematic. Sure, they could have probably done something using game engine and revealing potential major NPC characters like the did with the CGI trailers, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as fluid and epic. Heck, they even have to throw up asterisk warnings all over the place at the beginning of this video so as to give any sort of glimmer of hope to the diehards that the game will end up looking and/or playing better than that, as if it will somehow achieve something close to what the CGI trailers are mocking us with.

It's a cinematic, it won't look nearly that good in game. I hope it is, but from the last in game trailer I saw, it's not going to look close to that.

Are you seriously on AT forums with 8000+ posts calling someone else a nerd?

No one seriously thinks the game will *look* like that, particularly since anyone who cares will have compared Blur's Dragon Age trailer to the actual Sacred Ashes battle. But the mechanical aspects are absolutely going to be what's showcased.

He is right about the gameplay. You can't expect to have a couple hundred people playing DBZ Jedi and expect it to not be a complete cluster fuck. It might work on small scales, but on an MMO scale, it will not. I imagine it will be a lot closer to WoW only Star Wars themed than most are hoping. It might at least have a chance at being a success if this is the case.

Also, I am extremely annoyed the "Republic Commandos" look like Storm troopers. That is completely out of the line with the lore, but then again so is the entire story of this game as far as I'm concerned. I will be playing it upon release, I just don't have high hopes for it.

Judging by the alpha game footage, you're right about the WoW comment. Even the republic soldiers were melee-ing with swords. WTF?

Storm troopers use a derivative of the commando armor thats just different looking mandalorian armor. In this timeline the mandalorians are everywhere so it makes perfect sense.

Vibroblades. KOTOR gameplay says they use an oscillation effect to make them stand up to the power of a lightsaber. Republic soldiers would use them b/c even though the chance of survival against a Sith is small, it's still better than using a blaster.

Vibroblades, eh? Wonder if the first raid boss will drop a mono-filament whip I can DW...

Great trailer, will be interesting to see how the gameplay turns out... the fact is if you have blasters, lightsabers, crazy jedi-powers, droids and jetpack wielding bounty hunters most people could give a shit about where the game falls in the Star Wars timeline or if it makes sense at all. Pew pew - > snap-hiss... doh...
