Storm troopers use a derivative of the commando armor thats just different looking mandalorian armor. In this timeline the mandalorians are everywhere so it makes perfect sense.

Except the Mandalorians would not "work" for the Republic. They were nomadic and intent on conquering. The only reason they worked with Ulic Qel-Droma was because he bested the current Mandalore and he pledged himself to the "Sith" crusade. If you're suggesting the Republic would copy or steal Mandalorian design, that could be possible, however I think the Republic's "army" was comprised of several systems pledging their support / resources (troops). I doubt they all shared such technology.

So, again, the fact that the Republic Commandos look like Mandalorians 3000 years before the Clone Wars, is retarded.

And after seeing the alpha build gameplay, it looks like it will be worth checking out. If it is another SWG, no thank you. That was probably the worst game I've ever played.

If you're looking to rip this mmo apart with Lore holes - then you're going to seriously hate this game. I think KOTOR is part of the "expanded Star Wars universe" so they can basically do pretty much whatever the hell they want...right?

Another SWG? I don't think it can because they can't screw up "official movie" timelines by implementing crap that obviously is wrong [doesn't belong, in the wrong time line, etc]. I just hope it doesn't turn out that the only thing this game has to offer are pve quests and pvp end game. Though...I really can't fathom what kind of end game raiding they could have... Star Wars is pretty much about "war" between good [jedi/republic] and evil [sith/"empire"]

These CGI films were not made by BioWare. I think it was on Gametrailers or Xplay they interviewed the company that made them, but it wasn't BioWare.

Haha, yeah, Bioware is too busy trying to write themselves out of the corner they're backed into for their game plots.

Seriously though, this looks like fun. Probably the only MMO I'll be touching at all.

Great trailer, will be interesting to see how the gameplay turns out... the fact is if you have blasters, lightsabers, crazy jedi-powers, droids and jetpack wielding bounty hunters most people could give a shit about where the game falls in the Star Wars timeline or if it makes sense at all. Pew pew - > snap-hiss... doh...

indeed. all the bitching here is just nerds with nothing better to do than bitch about fantasy stuff.

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't know that being interested in the lore of a game was frowned upon. I really hope you're okay now. You can go back to playing shallow games with no story now, k?

And btw, I'm glad I'm the nerd with 24k posts.

I don't like the lack of distinction between the old Republic and the Republic/Empire in the Star Wars films. They appear too similar judging from the trailer. When they said "the empire" in the trailer, they should have specified the "Sith Empire." The Republic troops look too much like clone troopers. The capital ships look too much like star destroyers.

Yes, I know that the Republic/Empire used armor and ships whose appearance was derived from those of the mandalorians and whatnot, but still, it would be better if there there were greater distinction. Maybe make the Republic troopers a different color (metallic armor? like Jango's armor), for starters.

Im right there with ya gothar. I may not have time to grind away the hours like I did in the old days but developing a nice character and making friends on a server is still fun. I keep in touch with people I met playing Final Fantasy 11 back in 2003.

That is why this is the Old Republic, they are seperated from the movies by a thousand years, literally.

Are you seriously on AT forums with 8000+ posts calling someone else a nerd?

No one seriously thinks the game will *look* like that, particularly since anyone who cares will have compared Blur's Dragon Age trailer to the actual Sacred Ashes battle. But the mechanical aspects are absolutely going to be what's showcased.

I specified huge nerd. Now you're just an idiot for not picking up on that, this is the second time you're selectively ignoring key words, come on now.

If the game doesn't look or play like it, then its a mockery, which is the entire point to being disappointed by such marketing tactics. I could let it slide with them doing it once but this is the second time they've done it, its making me think they don't want to disappoint us with what is actual gameplay, which isn't encouraging.

I agree there is some deception involved in the use of these cg trailers. When the first gameplay videos came out, these cg scenes were necessary because the gameplay looked like crap. The most recent in-game combat trailer though, actually looks badass. Which is why I find it peculiar bioware only used cg sequences for an E3 trailer

Any link for badass in game combat trailer?

I bet bioware does a movie tie in at launch like dead space did with the animated movie. Would be shrewd marketing...

You are absolutely right, nothing like Blizzard did with these in game cinematics-

That's just how WoW looks too!

When did Jedis start throwing balls of energy the size of whales?

In the ToR timeline Jedi could have children with each other- there were blood lines of Jedi that dated into centuries(at least). In the movie timeline, such arrangements were not allowed(although following the fall of Palpatine Luke allowed them again). I would imagine that centuries of breeding any trait would result in a more pronounced manifestation of that trait, at least that is what biology has taught us all. The Sith have millenia of such breeding during this timeline, that their powers should exceed what we see as powerful based on the movie timeline isn't particularly surprising IMO, not to mention that the Jedi in time of war are far more likely to focus on combat techniques over meditative practices(outside of something like Battle Meditation which is a freak occurance even amongst force sensitive).

There was a major fault in the cinematic trailer if it is to represent a MMO game. The female was wearing way too much clothing to be that powerful. We all know that the less a woman wears in a game, the stronger she is. So with how much she was wearing, she should've been slaughtered. Trailer is full of lies.

This is true, but the order was a lot different during the Old Republic. It has been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times, as has the Sith Empire. None of the Sith in this game are even true Sith, they are simply Dark Jedi. I think once Jedi started falling in mass to the dark side, rules were enacted to combat emotional stress that could contribute, as well as limiting what powers were studied. Also, I believe all Sith artifacts and holocrons were destroyed to prevent Jedi being corrupted studying them.
