They should have done 7/8/9 and then the other two. Waiting two years for episode 8 is ridiculous. I mean, Winds of Winter might even be out before then.

Most hardcore nerds on the internet have the opinion they should have made the movies starting in 1987.

Well, whatever.

Not surprised. Its actually going under a partial rewrite by the director. That is probably what pushed it back.

You'll change your tone once you see rogue one. They are going to give the fans something they've wanted to see for a VERY long time. I wont spoil the surprise.

I hope that's because they've decided to learn from what didn't really work in 7. It doesn't make a lot of difference to me though, I plan to put 8 off until 9 is out so I don't have to deal with the obligatory shitty cliffhanger.

Which part didn't work? The emo-conflicted-teeny-angst bad guy wearing eye liner?

The force-on-demand talents of the good guys?

The mentally scarred and indecisive storm trooper?

The copying of plot line from the first three?

Renaming the Empire?

Rehashing old characters... poorly?

I mean...... the only way they can fix all that shit is by crashing their ships into the sides of mountains and call it pilot error, then start all over again.

They pushed it from Summer of 2017 to that month in 2017 when people buy lots of fucking toys and put them in gift boxes.

How about in the first scene we establish that the emo puke is actually a badass by having him blow open a door and choke a guy to death with his mind? Oh yeah, did that already too. :hmm:

How about the next one is set at least a year later, and to show how our previously insipid heroes have all grown up the first thing we will see after the title crawl and camera pan is them in the middle of a huge space battle over Coruscant... Fuck. :hmm:

Ok forget all that, to get the audience concerned that our heroes might actually die this time we'll reveal that the Empire is constructing a planetary superweapon that's way bigger than the last one, and it has no obvious weaknesses so they have to go attack it right now before it gets finished. That one's airtight.

I really don't know how they could fix this new series; if 7 had been released with a different name and an average marketing budget it would already have been forgotten by most people. But, character development and an actual script can make shitty IPs significantly less shitty, maybe even good.

it was nice that it wasn't going to be "that long" till the next chronological one came out, a 2 year turn around not as good.

It feels more like a change made more for the holiday sales than movie making itself.

It happens all the time, though. Sure, Disney is aiming for the merchandise of course, but release dates are generally rather carefully planned. Some planned dates will be held back at the last second to aim for more favorable competition on a specific weekend.

Granted, The Star Wars release schedule will be the one that other studios and films plan around, and not the other way.

You all realize it was THREE YEARS between the movies in the OT, right?

Not shocking and really I don't blame them.

I love how people get on Disney (or any company) for trying to make as much money as they can... last time I checked, they are a business.

I don't have much of an issue with 2 years either as they have movies to prop up between the trilogy movies. Makes complete sense. It's not like you're not going to be devoid of Star Wars for 2 years. Not to mention the almost guaranteed DVD release of TFA (with added footage)

You forgot the likely Boba Fett movie in 2020 as well.

So that means we'll get 5 Star Wars movies in the next 5 years.
Versus 7 movies in the previous 38 years.

Read an article discussing almost 6 films that have or expected to be moved solely due to SWVIII changing dates.

The big undecided is some new one from speilberg currently slotted for same release window.

Hate they pushed it back. Color me sad.

I know what you're thinking:

"Did he stay within the lines when he colored me sad or did he just photoshop the colors outside of the lines out?"

And I'm telling you if you think about it long enough you will arrive at the answer.

But what will really bake your noodle is do I know what you're thinking because I made you think of it?
