Oh, one annoying thing.... if the Jedi and Sith have the ability to talk to each other in real time over vast space using a "Force Bridge", why didn't the Jedi's use it in Episode 2 to warn each other that Empire was trying to wipe all of them out? Come to think of it, there must have been a dozen times in the past 7 movies where that trick would have come in handy for the Jedis or the Sith. Lame.

They were supposed to be something other than Jedi and Sith. They were also supposed to be the most powerful people ever according to the movie. I gather that she was his equal in the light side, according to the not the Emperor guy.

Anyone think Mark Hamill is a so/so actor? For me I can't put the finger on it, I just don't a get warm and fuzzy from him like he tried too hard. He seems so much more likable when he does public appearances.

Rotten Tomatoe critic score of course is still high but audience score is mixed at only 56% so it's definitely not universal love for it.

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_the_last_jedi/

Because Rotten Tomatoes is manipulating the scores! I've already found 2 critics that did not like it but were counted as fresh. One gave it it 2 out of 5. The other begrudgingly gave it a 3 out of 5; he even said it should be the last movie! That's not positive enough to be considered "fresh." If you read the reviews, you have to think some of those guys are just giving it a pass because it's Star Wars.

The funniest one was comparing the new trilogy to Joss Whedon's work with Marvel. I like the Avengers, but I feel Marvel only slightly overfills their story. They like a lot going on. But this movie has too much going on at one time, and it's a mess. Joss Whedon couldn't save Justice League, and I doubt anyone could have saved this dud. I know it did extremely well this weekend, but I hope they get hit in the later weeks so they stop this non sense from coming back in the 3rd movie.

I for one thought this movie was not great. Like 4 out of 10. And none of my friends like it so far either.

SPOILERS

Just a terrible, terrible story. They messed up pretty much everything in it. I liked Luke's final scene in which he projects himself across the galaxy - that was cool. Everything else was very lame, including Kylo Ren "converting" to the light but then suddenly not converting to the light. They probably realized with Snoke dead, they needed a new villain.

All of the interesting questions raised by the first movie were answered with uninteresting answers. So Rey is a nobody, Snoke is a nobody (and now dead), the Rebels are toast with only a handful of survivors, and Kylo Ren and Rey are the last two surviving force users. At the end of TLJ, I realized I don't care what happens in the next one. I am completely uninterested.

The Empire Strikes Back left us wondering - what happens to Luke now? Is Han really dead? How will Luke deal with his father and the Emperor? And, the answer to who Luke's father was turned out to be very interesting.

I walked out of TLJ with no burning questions in my mind. Apart from is it too late to ask for a refund.

I watched some theory videos on who Rey was and who Snoke was, before watching TLJ. They were all decently researched. Then I realized what happened. The team that wrote TFA did plan for there to be some interesting answers to those questions. They did drop hints as to who Rey and Snoke are. They intended for those questions to be answered later. Then Rian Johnson takes over, and is like, nah I don't care about any of that, and wipes the slate. Kills of Snoke and reveals that Rey is a nobody.

It becomes clear that this trilogy was not written as a trilogy. They didn't write all 3 parts and then break them down into movies. Instead, they are just writing 3 separate stories.

Look at episodes 4 to 6. 4 functions as an introduction. We meet the most important characters. Luke finds out he is a Jedi, and begins his journey. His meets his first mentor - Obi Wan - who teaches him a little, and later dies. In Episode 5, the story continues, and the mystery deepens. Some important questions are answered, and other important questions are raised. Finally, in episode 6, we come to a conclusion. Luke and Leia realize they are siblings. Luke reconciles with his father, right before his father's death. Vader sacrifices himself to save his son's life, killing his master and finally turning back to the light, just before dying. The Empire is defeated (or so we thought), and the Emperor finally dead.

Now compare that to this mess of a trilogy. What can happen at the end of Episode 9 to conclude this trilogy satisfactorily? Kylo Ren is going to die, Rey is going to live. Blah blah blah I don't even care anymore.

SPOILERS.

I agree with everything you said. It seems this movie was more about Rian Johnson than anything else.

I commented to a friend on the way out of the movie that I really don't care what happens to Rey, Finn, Kylo, the resistance... It's just so uninteresting and I feel no connection to any of the characters.

In short my advice is go, place your brain in standby and take it for what it is. Pretty sure you'll have fun, I know I did.

Why isn't this always people's mindset when seeing action movies?

Edit: Quoting fail...

Why didn't they have Leia take the helm of the resistence star cruiser and kill her off then? Would have seemed to be a fitting end for Leia and allowed for development of Laura Dern's character Admiral Holdo.

They didn't know that Carrie Fisher was going to die when they filmed it. Leaves them with a problem because they said they will not reuse archival footage of her, neither will they use CGI.

Take a look at IMDB. The movie has an almost 8/10 rating ... but if you look at the reviews, it sucks. I guess you either love it or hate it. Regardless of how you or I feel our society cannot get enough of Star Wars. This could have been a really bad, smelly turd of a movie and people are so desperate for entertainment ... they would have happily handed over their hard-earned money. It is a very sad indictment of our society ...

My daughter and I both enjoyed this quite a bit. My buddy on the other hand did not.

He is a huge Luke fan so he was pretty miffed about how Luke went out in the end.

He never converted. He was planning on having Rey turn to the dark side. The first scene with him and Snoke, I had a feeling he would take over. I do agree that this movie broke away from where TFA was headed. There were many scenes that hammered it into us.

SPOILERS

I enjoyed the movie, but at the same time, I think the movie destroyed the entire Star Wars saga for me. It was all stuff I already knew, but seeing in on film made it so it sunk in differently than before. Like, the part where they go into the light and the dark constantly rising and matching one another. If the light side wins, then the dark side will rise up to challenge it. When the dark side wins, the light will be raised up to challenge it. Benicio del Toro's character then revealed that the Star Wars universe has this entire population of arms dealers playing both sides. I left wondering what was the point then? The story will just keep repeating itself over and over and over, but maybe that will be addressed in the final movie.

There were moments in the movie though that I felt were particularly well done. Some of the First Order commanders realizing what the resistance was doing with the dreadnought, but were unable to act out of disobedience to stop it. I thought they did a good job of reflecting on the small moments of absurdity in a good way, and siding with what the audience was already thinking. The burning of the tree was awesome.

But, yeah, taking a heavy cruiser and sending it into warp speed directly into the enemies super warship? I think that opened up a very bad can of worms for the rest of the series considering that could have been done to the past Death Stars, Super Star Destroyers, Star Killer Base, etc.

I would have loved to have seen more with Captain Phasma's character. I would have loved to have seen a lot more from Snoke's character. We will very much miss Carrie Fischer.

Movie is two halves.

Luke/Rey/Snoke/Kylo stuff -- pretty solid and good and "Star Wars"
Everything else should have been on the cutting room floor. Complete trash.

In a morbid way, I think it's ironic that Luke and Han are dead, but Carrie Fisher's character still lives
Speaking of which, the force pull from space? STUPID
The ENTIRE casino/code breaker plot-line? Just horrible. That was prequel quality stuff.

Ummm yeah - that's pretty much been know since 1977. There's a reason his acting career never took off... Please see "Corvette Summer" for reference.

I thought he played a fairly decent crotchety old man, not as good as Ford does but good enough. Besides everyone knows his finest acting was in the Wing Commander games...

Yeah - he plays the role of "old man" decently enough. As that is what he is. Ford should have stopped acting 10 years ago. He's horrible.
I've met Mark Hammil (coincidentally during the Wing Commander days) and he's an INCREDIBLY nice and down-to-earth guy. That's why people love him. He's not a "star"

As soon as that happened I told my wife that I know what I would do from then on with all my ships. Even something the size of a fighter would obliterate a Star Destroyer when traveling at light speed. When something kinda similar happened at the end of Rogue One it was in an unexpected and accidental manner that didn't turn a relatively small ship into a super weapon.

I enjoyed it, overall it was fun and its Star Wars you are supposed to look over inconsistencies.

I would have liked it if
When Yoda was sitting with Luke by the burning tree his final words to Luke were "I have one last lesson to teach you", then the force projection thing like Qui-Gon Jinn had taught Yoda and Obi Wan. Serious Star Wars nerd thing to mention

If Star Wars was your childhood you’ll hate the new movie. If you’re new to Star Wars you’ll have no idea what’s going on and love the movie.”.

I think the Empire always had far more ships than the rebels, so throwing away your largest ships wouldn't be a winning strategy. And based on the damage it caused to Snoke's ship, I don't think that would have taken out a Death Star or Star Killer Base.

I saw it last night. To me, everything star wars is crap except episodes 4,5,6.

My opinion of the new movie is that it was better than the typical crap they've put out. I guess it is the 4th best star wars movie. While I appreciated the references to episodes 4/5/6, it wasn't good enough to make me go WOW. I doubt that I'll ever see episode 8 again but I am actually looking forward to the next movie.

EDIT: The movie was tooooo damned long. I wanted out of the theater for the last 20 minutes.
