This will provide fertile testing ground for my upcoming Starbucks lawsuit:

Too much burned, not enough coffee.

ABSOLUTELY.

Starbucks is just the fucking worst coffee. It completely tastes burned. I don't get it. My damned wife makes that shit (or similar) at home too. Gotta make 2 pots on the weekends so we're both happy.

I should clarify for those that may not get it: I am actually referring to the taste, which, for Starbucks, is predominantly "burned," and not the physical act of being burned by coffee.

It never fails.

I'm going to argue that the reasoning behind this is that they put a pot of coffee on first thing in the morning ... and then the crowd comes in and all they order are these sugar-laced drinks that are far from coffee. It's mostly milk and sugar, maybe some tea? Definitely not coffee. The first person to order a normal coffee is probably 3 hours after they put the pot on. My 'go-to' on the road coffee is panera. Haven't had a terrible experience there yet.

Agree with Panera coffee. That is my go-to coffee as well when I pick something up. Starbucks coffee tastes burned even if you brew it at home. They just really roast the piss out of their coffee beans. Some people love it, but it just tastes burned to me.

"Lite on the ice please".

Problem solved.

But yes, it sucks that a Iced Coffee is basically 3 drinks of liquid and a jug of ice.

I dunno. I drink a lot of starbucks iced coffee and americanos, and have come to appreciate the ice. Unlike many I drink my iced coffee over the course of an entire morning. During that time the ice melts, turning into (slightly weaker) iced coffee which I enjoy just as much as the original sip. Its essentially the drink that keeps on, er, drinking!

Yeah, it's the roasting and doesn't have anything to do with the age of their pots.

The burned coffee roasting is the center of their original popularity, which is the "technique" that they essentially stole from Peet's coffee.

To me it's the same as the IPA phenomenon--a process largely eschewed as pedestrian and cheap, masking real technique, even though it has its own unique, perhaps even mildly pleasant quality to some specific tastes. It becomes popular with the least common denominator because it effectively masks poor technique in a universal, easily replicable manner. Re-brand it is "fancy" and you have now profited by convincing dummies that a cheaper, amateur technique should be considered premium.

Go figure.

if you go to starbucks to buy straight up black coffee you're doing it wrong.

When I do go there and order a latte, those fuckers default to putting goddamn fucking foamy whipped cream in there.

WHO THE FUCK DOES THAT?

I have to get all incredulous at them because I go there so rarely that I never remember that these assholes default to adding diabetes to your beverages, and then they have the temerity to think that I am wrong re: diabeetus in my coffee drink.

There is no problem adding ice to iced drinks.

There is a problem that most coffee shops use the same amount of actual coffee/flavorings in the medium and large sizes, add in ice to make up the difference, but charge you more for this now watered down drink.

Sort of. I thought it was more the Peet's "guy" taught the SB "guy" how to roast. Clearly the technique was thrown out the window in favor of massive profit and crap product.

Thereby confirming that Starbucks isn't really coffee. That crap is terrible. If it doesn't taste good black it's not worth drinking.

people should be going to starbucks for the stuff they can't make at home - iced tea drinks & ridiculous espresso based drinks.

you ever try making a trenta fizzio passion tea lemonade at home? it's a fucking pain in the ass AND it's expensive as shit with sodastream machines.

I stopped reading after "latte".

that's simply espresso with milk. If you are suggesting there is some appropriate additive to make black coffee tolerable, then I would like it know what it is if not milk.

a latte is milk with espresso; a macchiato is espresso with milk.

I gave up on all that stuff. I hardly even drink soda anymore. Black coffee (hot or cold) and beer. I figure all the calories I save from the sugary drinks can be saved for beer

I honestly don't give a shit. I think coffee pretty much tastes like ass anyway, so I like it with milk. No sugar, obviously, and I make it strong as hell. I only drink it because I need to get lit. It's a utilitarian thing and I really wouldn't drink it otherwise. No condensed milk or nothing with fortified sweetness. Milk is sweet enough.

These days, drinking it black is now becoming that hipster shit that thrives with places like Philz--I have to taste all of the hints of burrow ass that carried these beans from the lowlands of Colombia to my cup! no thanks.

Think I'll go brew some "Artisian IPA" now. For sure to make millions...

No one does that IME. I pretty much only order latte or drip when I need something and Starbucks is the only choice. NEVER have gotten any whipped cream on it or asked about. When I get something for my wife (one of the fancy flavored drinks) they always ask if I want whip cream. Are you sure you are ordering a latte?

im not shocked this happened

when I do go someplace and order an ice coffee or even a soda I always ask for 1/2 the ice they normally put in, ive been doing this for like a decade

Same here.

Also although the hot is pretty good I don't like the ice-coffee at Starbucks ... seems watery and weak to me.

hey man, on a hot day that shit is awesome. of course, I only drink that after I get real coffee, because there is no caffeine in that iced mojito thing.

Whoa, That's pretty interesting. Would try. Bring it to NYC? Thx
