Only $2?! You must love drinking despair in a cup.

Unless you paid AT LEAST $5 for 8oz of coffee it obviously wasn't made with organic, vegan, fair trade, non-GMO beans and served in an artisan hand made African mud bowl (never washed, ruins the flavor!). I bet they used DAIRY CREAMER in it also.

/sarcasm

For real though... Just make you own coffee and save a ton of cash. I use a pour over, but that's only because I can get the filters cheap. An aeropress is also a good cheap option for single cup, or french press for larger amounts.

The "best coffee" is like the perfect beer, scotch, or wine; it's all subjective.

No you are right, all of their food is terrible, including the donuts. I don't drink coffee that much so I don't really care where its from, but the food at DD is horrible.

For coffee however, I think I'd rather spend $500 on a good espresso/coffee maker just so I don't have to stop in at a store every day. Even a drive through every day would bug the hell out of me. In the long run the money saved is great too, but keeping me away from all those people in the morning would be PRICELESS.

I bought an automatic espresso machine from Costco about 7 years ago because I was tired of going to DD, Starbucks, McDonald's, etc every morning for my coffee and breakfast fix. I paid $750 and it has paid for itself multiple times. I just checked and the machine has made 5104 cups of espresso and coffee over the years.

Let me get this straight, you say Starbucks is watered down but McDonalds is ok?

You can call Starbucks a lot of things...burnt, bitter, expensive, yuppie-swill...ect. But it's most certainly not watered down. Especially in comparison to McDonalds. Starbucks arguably brews one of the strongest cups of coffee you can easily acquire.
Idk, last few times I've had a grande pike, it was just a bit too far into the hot water taste than rich coffee taste. But maybe they were just bad days?

What would be a good, inexpensive (but not cheap) espresso machine. I've been on the hunt for one for some time.

I spend around $50 a month at Starbucks. I tend to go there on weekend mornings after I run. I love the order ahead app. I have the auto-reload set up on the app. The one downside is there doesn't seem to be a way to redeem your free rewards AND order ahead. So right now I have 2 free rewards queued up, but I have to wait in line to redeem them.

When I first moved here and was staying in a hotel, I was hitting Starbucks multiple times a day:

if your free drink is order-able via the app, you are doing it wrong.

I go to Starbucks for the Internet 2-4 times a week. I buy 3 to 4 hours at a time for $2. They throw in a tall (small) cup of coffee for free. Sometimes the comfy chairs with thick cushions are available.

I've check out McDonalds, but they had a sign warning you not to park your car there longer than 20 minutes. Not a friendly place. As for Dunkin, donuts are not on my allowable list, and their dark coffee tastes like light coffee that's been severally burnt.

To redeem the free Starbucks drink or food after buying 12, I've always had to ask. They give you a month or more to use it, or it does expire. I have one in queue that expires in mid December.

Starbucks has a hot Carmel Apple Spice drink, not coffee, that is really nice in the cold weather. Not on the menu, but some stores will make it up for you. Sometimes a new employee has to ask another, who has been there a while, how to make it up.

Well I do that, but the extra caffeine gives me the jitters and I can't sleep.

if you start with coffee you can get refills of ice tea

if you're really cheap, you can start with ice tea (1.75) and get free refills of ice coffee (2.25)

That is a bit expensive, but if you like their coffee I'm sure customers won't mind.

Hell after moving to TX I'll pay $20 for a large triple triple from Tim Hortons. It's no so much the coffee but the creamer they use.

McDonald's coffee is garbage. Starbucks can be quite good, but I hate how inconsistent they are with iced coffee. I find it meh or bleh more often than good.

Depends on the location/manager. The one I frequent will only refill you with what's on the cup's label. I've also been to one that's really chill and will refill an americano or macchiato with (free) regular coffee.

I used to go to Starbucks when I lived in Thailand. It sucked then and it sucks now. Make your coffee at home people. I have an old fashioned coffee pot w/ a coffee grinder and my coffee comes out banging every time.

I also don't have to pretend that I'm special. I can drink my coffee in my undies while letting off explosive farts. Can't do that in Starbucks.

Dunks has a rewards cards but it is based on points. 100 points or so equals a free drink. I think that comes out to something like 10 medium coffees = 1 free.

Gotta love Dunkin app with the 25cent medium coffees or when it's 99 cents during summer/fall. Otherwise it's the Keurig brewer at work (office pays for coffee) or french press at home. Starbucks is ok... it's probably the strongest brew that is readily available in most areas.

Just make sure it doesnt go against your religion first.

Coffee is it's own religion.

McDonald's coffee is garbage. Starbucks can be quite good, but I hate how inconsistent they are with iced coffee. I find it meh or bleh more often than good.

I also find Starbucks iced coffee to be lacking. If you don't mind paying a bit more, I really like their iced americano. It is much stronger than their regular iced coffee.

What's nice is that you get a "star" after every purchase, regardless of how much you spend. So you can go in there twelve separate times and buy the cheapest menu item, and then you get a freebie, which can be used for any drink or food item. I usually use mine on a sandwich or bento box, which can be $5-6.
