Looks awesome. I never did buy HOTS though. Still need to play that one.

HOTS's story was pretty lacklust IMO and the voice acting was a abysmal. I never actually finished it though, but got pretty far in the campaign.

Well HOTS wasn't as terribad as WOL. Too many plot holes in HOTS though. Gonna buy LOV just because I'm a fanboy even if I know I'm being trolled by Metzen.

I'm really curious how they plan to truly wrap everything up...IMO way too many loose strings at this point, so I expect a single fell swoop to simply address everything that was left undone. Of course its been so long I don't remember any details HA...but the general memory of mediocrity does remain.

Could not give a (Pro)toss.

The cutscenes from Blizzard of late have been rather... lacking compared to their more ancient counterparts, no?

Am I the only one that got annoyed by the constant reuse of the dark templar attack sound through the trailer?

You can just FEEL that Blizz gave up on SC2.

For those uninitiated, SC2 was a HUGE flop after the massive world-wide anticipation.

When SC2 was released 4 years, it was when gaming companies just started to adopt the FREE model with microtransactions- both on mobile gaming apps and PC games like League of Legends.

LoL proved to be anridiculous cashcow. They're making millions daily while the game remains free. The traditional pricing model of SC2 proved to be bad, and it was outright awful once the game itself proved to be not fun, marking the end of the RTS genre.

By Heart of the Swarm came out (SC2's first expansion), most of the pros & casual base have moved onto other lucrative & fresh pro-scenes like LOL, Dota 2, and even CS:GO.

Legacy of the Void's trailer looks awful. It looks like they just gave up half way. You're right, compare this cinematic to even recent Blizz titles like Diablo 3- much better in quality. When LotV is released, it'll just have few hundred thousand dollar sales for the first week or two. Then everyone will have forgotten about the game- just like Heart of the Swarm.

Blizz has learned well though, the Overwatch looks FRESH while it meshes what works on today's gaming trend- Dota/LoL-like hero-system with 3 skills + 1 ultimate skill & Team Fortress 2. This with their Heroes of the Storm (Blizz' own take on LoL/Dota), they'll hope to recover.

Again, as for Starcraft, Legacy of the Void, this is an afterthought, trailed in the dust.

I love Starcraft and I will be getting this when it comes out most likely, but that was a really cheesy trailer. Constant reusing of sounds from the game, and Zeratul with the my wife for hire at the end, come on Blizzard...

I feel like the expansions for blizz games just aren't worth it. Like, HOTS was a fine SP campaign, but the additions to the MP games just feel kinda meh. Diablo 3 was a fine game too (for me) but the expansion again was meh. It just doesn't recapture the magic when you revisit a game again. It's like...an expansion pack for a book. Like, take your favorite novel, add a whole new set of chapters in the middle of it. Doesn't ever work out well.

that makes absolutely no sense.

That trailer was kind of disappointing, it's "okay" but... I certainly preferred the more visceral trailer for Heart of the Swarm.

+1

It also seemed a bit silly with the bit where Kerrigan was getting her arse kicked by a hybrid (it could be Amon but I doubt it)... her plan to go up against a powerful foe is fisticuffs? It would seem more sensible for her to try and learn to use her powers as well as possible, possibly through a Protoss alliance.

@ Zeze

The metric I'd use for whether SC2 was a flop is either that it sold so little that they didn't bother to end the trilogy, or if Battle.net multiplayer was as quiet as a tomb despite HotS only being released about a couple of years ago.

Saying "it was a flop because other games make more money" is like saying every Hollywood flick is a flop because it wasn't the most profitable movie of all time.

@ desura

Have you considered that your tastes may have moved on? While I would agree that game design should evolve and improve over the years, if the game makers are looking to satisfy interest in a certain type of game, then that's what they're going to serve up, as long as there's interest for it.

Looking forward to this. I absolutely suck at MP in SC2, can't get out of gold, but I really enjoy it none the less.

I'm also glad to see the series ending because it means they may be working on Warcraft 4 for us now. I think it's a no brainer. They have the engine ready right now; use SC2's engine and build assets in it for WC4 and go. I'm guessing we see WC4 announced next year and released within 2-3 years.

Blizzard aren't using a traditional pricing model, they split SC2 into 3 full priced games effectively doubling the cost of SC2 compared to SC1+BW.

The trailer was lackluster. I think the first part of the trailer was borrowed from a couple of cut scenes in WoL actually. The rest you could tell was hastily rendered compared to, say, the HOTS trailer.

SC2 is still alive and well though. It's not as large as LoL or Dota2, but it's still there, and with an active professional scene. The new units and gameplay changes look interesting. The only change I felt was unnecessary though was the 1500 to 900 minerals. I hope that one doesn't stick.

I thought SCII-WoL was fun to play, with nice graphics to look at.
On a personal note, I suck so bad at RTS and can't build fast enough, that's why I always end up playing the SP campaign only!

the bad thing about this is that they said they making the game even more micro attentive intensive, in part by limiting base building and requiring you to expand more.

This is an interesting statement to make considering that Blizzard didn't even really make cinematics for the D3 expansion...

It looks good enough for $25... but only 'cause I love the single player campaigns. This trailer wasn't exactly epic though... if I weren't already a fan I wouldn't bother.

The match making in Battle.net is much better than most, but I get you. In order to compete you either have to be a kid that doesn't go outside or a husband on his way to divorce.

Same here. It's been on my list -- I did really like the WOL single-player campaign -- but still haven't gotten to it.
