This is an interesting statement to make considering that Blizzard didn't even really make cinematics for the D3 expansion...

Have you considered that your tastes may have moved on? While I would agree that game design should evolve and improve over the years, if the game makers are looking to satisfy interest in a certain type of game, then that's what they're going to serve up, as long as there's interest for it.
they are taking WAY too damn long for these expansions.
Of course, Valve never got around to those episodic releases for Half Life.

LotV is not being released as an expansion but as a stand alone.
I played WOL back in the day, but didn't buy HOTS because of the always online DRM.
The community for this game has pretty much died.
Unfortunately, the online game play has WAY too steep of a learning curve, which makes the game almost unplayable for newbies. You can only play SP or games against bots for so long before you give up and go on to something else.
The same people claiming SC2 was a flop are likely the same people claiming D3 was a flop. Just because YOU didn't like it doesn't mean it was a flop.
Those that are learning can crawl around at the bottom of Bronze. Might run into some smurfs but should get same games of people of similar skill. I think the the true reason is that there much more choices of games to play now than there was when the original Starcraft was released.
Could not give a (Pro)toss.
The cutscenes from Blizzard of late have been rather... lacking compared to their more ancient counterparts, no?
