Uh no I've played pretty much all modern Rts and I find myself STILL going back to sc1 because it really is that amazing of a game.

Blizzard was/is staffed by just normal people. I think the team in the late 90s just happened to strike gold with sc1. It's pure magic, the best game ever made imo. I picked it up at 12 years old and now at almost 28 it's still in the rotation and sometimes is the main game I play when I have time for games. It's so perfectly balanced between the races and yet they are all so different. It's just impossible to redo without just copying the original's formula and that's ok by me.

It wasn't a flop, it just died out with HotS and the evolution of LoL and DOTA.

It was a commercial success, both D3 and SC2, there is no denying that. However, compared to its predecessors, they have both failed in gameplay and longevity. There is no denying that D3 really turned its back on D1 and D2 players. SC2 on the other hand just slowly died off on its own, as RTS games are no longer viable in today's society.

That sounds an awfully lot like you're explaining ver 2 as in floppish territory because it wasn't as good as ver 1.

Man, maybe this is what it's like to get old...

I remember waking up early (no small feat in the years of college) to get the Warcraft 3 expansion. I played the crap out of that game between the world editor and UMS maps.

And now this type of game is dead? Yeesh.

Time to line up to buy hats for your favorite MOBA character (which you also bought)...

I drove with my friends 90 minutes away to buy Warcraft 3 over a decade ago. I actually had little interest in it, but I bought it to play with my buddies. It sucked me in most of all of us. WC3 was a favorite of mine for a very long time.

Edit: I plan to play LotV, but I'll probably just play through the campaign and play a bit of ladder multiplayer for a while afterwards. It won't have the kind of longevity that WC3 had for me, but I wouldn't expect it to - for a lot of reasons.

Blizzard animated videos always look badass. They just need to hire that same team to do the Warcraft movie (which will probably suck.)

That was pretty crazy. Imagine what a full movie like that would be like.

It would be just one long 2 hour battle. It would be sick to watch all the game mechanics fleshed out as actual graphics. At first I didn't get that it was a probe creating a pylon.

It is crazy that this is just now coming out. I lost interest in SC2 in what seems like 8-10 years ago. I also felt like SC2 didn't have the overall staying power that SC1 did. It seemed pretty canned in terms of strategies, repeatedly over and over. I realize lots of people love it, so don't get me wrong.

I do miss SC sometimes; had a great team mate; he'd play protoss and I was terran.

He'd usually cover air and I'd cover ground; we'd take our time; not zerg rush When I'd announce Marine suicide machine is now in effect; we'd start our march. I'd usually have about 175 to 180 fully upgraded Marines all marching at once to a base and stim them. 6 Barracks pumping out more of them and my partner with Protoss carrariers....we didn't lose often.

We played one 4 on 4 match; where we lost our first teammate a rush; and one of my guild mate DCed. so it was 4 on 2; he asked if we should drop. I said hell no; they want this win; they can earn it. We took one of their guys out fast; then it was 3 on 2. We held off 2 attacks while counterattacking one of their guys. That pulled their attack off but it was too late by then and we took down another. Now it was 2 on 2 and it was game time.

I dropped more barracks; declared suicide marine machine was in effect and we stomped them. Took us 2 and half hours to do that. After that no one wanted to fight us. Specially ranked matches LOL

So I saw the cinematic intro yesterday, see the thread, start reading it and... WTF?! People say it sucks, not enough effort, blah blah blah... and I'm wondering if we've watched the same video? Then I looked at the date and they were commenting some other LotV video :awe: I almost thought the world went crazy there for a sec D:

That intro is sooo sick. High templars zapping shit left and right, that zealot hitting a baneling head-on to protect the pylon summon :awe: Seeing an archon meld, the archon saying "power overwhelming" and proceeding to zap tons of zerglings and finally fighting that ultralisk.... soooo EPIC!! A 3rd person, story driven action game (like WH40k:SM or GoW) would be amazing in the Starcraft universe

I'm with you on this, it's like the soul is missing from the game.

People weren't commenting on the cinematics but the actual gameplay.

That's the entire problem I had with this series and why TA was always a better game. They intentionally designed the mp for the twitchy response time crowd with as short as possible total game time. Ill take one of my 2 hour matches of going ultra turtle any day over that crap.

...and that's what led to an entire generation of kids playing Clash of Clans on their phone instead of pushing Blizzard for SC3.

RTS met Tower Defense and Twitch gaming and the bastard child was CoC and similar.

Heh I still enjoy the game because it's something I can pick up for a match or two and drop.

Counter-Strike now makes you sit through the entire 16 wins.

WoW takes a ton of time dedication.

None of the DOTA stuff interests me so heh.

From what I've seen so far of the cinematics/gameplay for LotV, they haven't actually tried to say, "here's a new and interesting plot development". I watched the cinematic that was released the other day, and that could have fit in as a cinematic at any part of the SC2 trilogy, it's so completely inconsequential.

As a result I have the impression that they're going to wrap up the trilogy in the most bland, unoriginal fashion possible. If they do it'll be a shame, because if the StarCraft plot is laid out from start to finish, it started so richly in the paper manual for SC1, and it seems to me that the people involved in its creativity have since lost interest but are obliged to finish it while they work on other projects.

One other thing, for a PEGI 16 game, in the latest trailer I thought it was a little odd that a zealot getting killed by a baneling fell down like he was pushed, as opposed to what banelings do, which is to melt their opponents with acid.

While the battle itself might be generic, the setting is Auir. The Protoss are taking back their home planet.

OK.
I prepurchased.
Supposed to get 3 prologue missions.
Nothing happened.
WTF?

Should get it when the game is released. It's not out now.

Is the campaign (its story) for Heart of the Swarm good? Any opinions?

I've finished Wings of Liberty (long ago), and I liked it, in fact I was very pleasantly surprised. If I liked WoL, would I like HotS? The $10 price is more than tempting right now and I'm admittedly in the mood for RTS gaming. If it matters to mention I'm only in for the story and the campaign, and the very occasional skirmish against A.I., never been an "online StarCraft player" myself (I.E. playing it against other people).

It's on par with the first. You're following Kerrigan and get to upgrade your units and such like you did for WoL. Missions were fun as long as you don't mind playing zerg. Worth the $10 IMHO.
