Someone wanna explain to me why this game is so expensive, even though it's really only 1/3rd of a game?

Blizzard could have made a 100 mission Terran campaign and people would still bitch it was only "1/3rd of a game."


I am glad to see the game has a built in FPS cap option. All game should have it.

We don't know that. Just like with torrented games, there's no way of proving that somebody who bought a trial would have bought the full game. Maybe they're looking at a small taste and then end up liking it so much they buy the full game? There's a set time on them, and blizzard gave them out for a reason, so I don't see how people charging a few bucks for them hurts blizzard more than people giving them out for free.

Then I wonder what happens once money maps are available (i assume none are yet?). Attack the command center and all mining scv's go crazy. rofl.

More units in SP? I should stop reading. That just sounds stupid.

I agree, they should at least be available in skirmish mode.

I'm surprised that no mainstream reviews are up yet.

I understand the reviews are probably trying to finish the SP campaign and play lots of MP matches, but I figured we'd have a few in-depth reviews by now.

The units in SP would not necessarily be balanced in MP. I.e. Void Ray range nerf definitely was affected by the fact that Terran only has Marines to deal with Void Rays. Firebat/Medic, I dunno these would make some pretty big changes in how the early game goes. No need for a Starport for healing is kind of a big deal.

Do those command lines only cap the framerate at menus or globally?

I am wondering the same thing. I added that to my variables.txt file and it did not prevent the crashing.

Also, where are there 0 threads about the video card overheating on the official Blizzard forums?

Because it's very much not 1/3rd of a game. I'm about 10 hours and from what I've seen so far, anyone still touting this as anything less than a full $60 experience (and perhaps even then some) most likely has not actually played the game.

In terms of shear volume of content, there's certainly more here than DoW2, or Company of Heroes, or Sins of a Solar Empire, or just about any other RTS in recent memory I can think of.

I just pwned my fist newb online. Of course, we were both weak. It was a practice match, not a real one. He was actually OK but he chose a slow, tech advance and I spread out bases quickly and made 4 barracks with reactors. I killed everything with just marines. It would seem you are only allowed 50 practice matches, and I bet the hardcore guys burned those up on the first day.

Also, I agree if they allowed all the Terran units in MP right now it would not be fun. They have too much cool shit and the campaign units for the other races arent out yet. Hopefully they will be allowed when all 3 campaigns are done.

I think not. Sins certainly has way more stuff, but its not nearly as fun.

It's for balance reasons. There's a whole lot of units in the SP that make for very interesting scenarios, but would completely frak up an online match if they were available in the MP. FWiW, the map maker is extremely powerful and contains all of the units for both game modes. Anyone wanting to play with the SP units could probably work something up fairly easily.

part of the reason why there are extra units in single player is because Blizzard knows the community will produce a SC2 version of DotA

WC3 had a lot of units due to having heroes and creep along with having 4 races. SC2 OTOH does not have heroes and creep and has 3 races.

I won 8/10 of my 1v1/2v2 placement matches using the exact same strategy - 4 gate toss ftlulz. One game I lost because my partner surrendered 3 seconds after the game started. The other I lost to a zealot+probe rush, lol.

I'm enjoying the campaign so far. Once I start playing multiplayer I'm sure I'll get destroyed. I'm not good at micro.

no worries, the emphasis in SC2 is much more on macro than it was in sc1. army production and proper knowledge of how to counter something is very important. micro gets important when you get to mid and higher levels of play, mostly with caster units.

I wish they had used Cover like CoH / DoW. I really love that feature. Adds a lot of strategy.

Because balance is prioritized above versatility in multiplayer games, and the campaign is only focused around the Terrans.

It's part of what makes the campaign so great. Choice. More buildings, units and upgrades for both. You usually have missions for each race, or factions in RTS campaigns, and if you only had the multiplayer selection of units for a single race through almost 30 missions, I'd imagine it would get slightly boring. I personally like this approach.

Maybe they'll be available (or some of them, at least) in multiplayer games by the time the Zerg and Protoss campaign have been released.

you'll be able to play. drop the settings down and you'll get 30+ fps.
i have a 9500GT system that plays it just fine on medium.

Good thing we got in early while there are still good names. When this thing has 10 million players there will be titles like (*&^*&&#37*%GOdSmaCKKingSa. Thats gonna look stupid.

Can I play against Koreans and Chinese, or just North Americans?
