Well, its official. Screenshots on the site, cinematic trailer (perhaps part of the intro?), and some new protoss units with descriptions on the site. They have some wallpapers, artwork, etc.

Gameplay trailer to be uploaded on 5/20 (tomorrow).

It's ok. The graphics are somewhat improved (reminds me of Warcraft 3 engine). Although if you look at the 'hi-res' shots, it doesn't seem too good to me. No new race/s either, which is a shame, would have liked to see some new race architecture/technology.

All in all it will be a hot seller by name and classic gameplay alone, but it lacks innovation. Same 'ol same 'ol. It's only been a day, so we'll see. We probably won't see this for atleast another year or 2, and it looks like it will have DX10 support and Havok physics too. They are debating whether or not to making it Vista only as well.

They could still announce a new race down the road. Night elves weren't announced for Warcraft III until a year or so after the unveiling.

On a side note, I don't like the cartoony art style they are going with. It destroys the beauty of Starcraft 1.

Honestly, reading over the site didn't excite me at all. Seems like all they did was update the graphics and make it 3D (and as mentioned above, it doesn't look that much better than WC3). I was really hoping for something new and original to revitalize SC.. it doesn't seem like there's anything mentioned that'll do that. A repacking of the SC with new graphics? hmmm.... At least it'll have sweet cinematics? Hopefully it's just too early and when more information becomes available it'll seem like more than it does right now

This will be a hot seller, right up there with Halo 3...

This is the best news on the PC front for me in a long time.

Blizzard's art style is cartoony, SC 1 was no different, so I don't really see the gripe there. It will be a top notch game with a great story, fun gameplay, and great cinematics.

Edit:

"StarCraft II will be fully compatible with Windows Vista, as well as XP. We'll have more details on system requirements closer to release."

From the main site, it won't be Vista only.

I'm feeling about the same. The shiny plastic looking textures aren't helping either. Definately needs a grittier look and some improved modeling. The tank looks downright terrible. Overall, the screenshots left me very underwhelmed.

But if the gameplay is as good, or better, than SC 1 I'll probably buy it just to have an updated version of SC.

I am excited...First off, they could polish up Starcraft 1 and I would buy it...That game was absolutely perfect in balance, with such different races that no game has yet duplicated.

I actually think this game looks pretty good, now if it comes out in another year, then it could be underwhelming. But looking at those screenshots, I like how it looks. Reminds me a little of C&C 3 in some ways.

I just hope it doesn't take more than 6-8 months for this game to come out, I'm still going to hope for a Dec 2007 release, but somehow I really doubt that happens.

So true, and 5 years down the line the graphics wont look crap and outdated, they will still look colorful and cartoony. Starcraft 1 has awsome graphics, warcraft III's graphics have fared awsomely too.

How about the story!? Blizzard storylines are always good. I even liked warcrafts story, its in depth and theres a lot of backstory to it, and im not typically a fan of castle and sword type games, i like guns and tanks. Starcraft 2's story is gonna be awsome.

I just hope the system requirments are too through the roof. Man am I pumped for SC2. The longest wait in PC gaming history is almost over. If all it is is a 3d version of SC1 it is still worth $60. SC was the only RTS I've ever played that was perfect in every aspect (except it's lack of anything better then 640x480 resolution), and I've played alot of them.
