All in all it will be a hot seller by name and classic gameplay alone, but it lacks innovation. Same 'ol same 'ol. It's only been a day, so we'll see. We probably won't see this for atleast another year or 2, and it looks like it will have DX10 support and Havok physics too. They are debating whether or not to making it Vista only as well.

They did announce a new race, according to 1up

From looking over the site I'd say the game is at least 1 year away, probably closer to 2. Really excited for this game... anticipation is gonna be a bitch.

So, there is time to add new features, and polish up the graphics, although I like them very much. They did state as posted earlier, that they are deciding whether or not they want to go into dx10 exclusive graphics. They also state the engine is very scalable... so in blizzard fashion everyone should be able to play with little problems once it is released and any driver issues and whatnot are out of the way. I would like nice explosions and whatnot, but I like the unit artwork. Not sure I want to see it get the "latest and greatest" graphics. That's me though, hell I'd take sc1 with 1680x1050 resolution. Can't wait for this game to make it out, Starcraft is pretty much the only RTS that I ever really enjoyed playing over and over.

It's not the WC3 engine. That's very apparent from the "live stage demo" video here.

Looks great to me, need to see some high quality feeds for more detail, but if Blizzard's track record is any indication it will be extremely polished and attractive looking.

Wooooooooooooo!! I read a press release somewhere that said "Something new in the Starcraft world by 2008", so I would expect Dec2007 or 1Q 2008 launch! I can't wait... where do I sign up for beta testing!

EDIT: Bunker Command anyone?

I'd be surprised if it came out before Q4 2008, it sounds to me like they still have a lot of work to do (ex. they apparently have not even started working on the single player campaign).

Also, consider that both WOW and WC3 were ~3 years between announcement and release. But, maybe since this looks relatively similar to original SC, it could take less time.

Any way to get a higher resolution in starcraft 1? I might have to replay it to get ready.

Blizzard said that there will be no limit as for how many units a user can control. They also said that there will not be another race on top of the existing three.

http://sc.gosugamers.net/news/6309

There's no direct quote from an official, so take it for what it's worth.

The blogger on 1up who mentions a fourth race, is predicting, based on how blizzard tends to do things, that an expansion could have a fourth race. He doesn't have any direct quotes either.

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately I don't think there was any progress in higher res play. From what I've read the best thing to do is to run it in a window so it doesn't look as gross.

I'd almost rather them not introduce another race, I'm not sure that was the best best move for WC3 to have 4 races (makes it pretty hard to keep the races unique yet balanced). Heck, it even had a couple of other incomplete races as well.

Just because there might (probably won't) not bet a new race doesn't mean single player won't see any new races or even have playable units of new races, they just won't be completely playable on their own.

Jesus came to South Korea today. He came donned with blue battle armor, smoking a cigar and peered into his most devoted followers. His followers, crying and cheering, let Jesus stare right at them as he inhaled his cigar, eargerly anticipating what his holiness will say to the masses of people who can't pronounce the letter R. He rumbles, "Hell, it's about time!!"

All of Korea couldn't handle it. Kids are running around in a frenzy, PC rooms are in an uproar of cigarette smoke-filled celebration and tears. Everyone gets out of their cars and embrace each other. It is finally the 2nd coming. All those rumors and hopeful prophecies have come true.

Today, South Korea sheds tears of absolute joy.

Although it looks good, it also looks like its just missing something. What is there thats new to get really excited about?

SC brought us three well balanced, different races. Which was awesome.
WC3 brought us four well balanced races, heroes, items, leveling etc...and it was awesome. (IMO)

Whats new here? Although they are apparently too afraid to be innovative or else risk alienating their rabid fanbase, it's looking very street fighter 3ish. That is to say - great game, technically better than the original that started the craze, but just doesnt have that "it" factor. Unless theyre holding something back.

I just don't see how a game with 10 year old play mechanics can take the world by storm...and at this point, thats what we expect blizzard games to do.

Well you don't want to fix what isn't broken... They have to be so careful with what they change as they don't want to negatively affect anything they did right in the first one. That was damn near everything, so by a safety standpoint nothing much needs to be changed. I would really like to see a bunch of new stuff too but I'd rather the tried and true stuff stay untouched.

Well, people are more than happy to continue to buy and play the original game. After WC3 advanced the formula, this is like taking one step back from what we've seen. The tried and true isnt dead, and nailed it just about perfectly, so why recreate it?

The main change will be that the races will be even more unique in style, mechanics and way of playing (according to the faq). Plus we've already seen units that are able to jump/walk over cliffs. All these changes may not seem real big, but the main of StarCraft 2 is to make the game competitive and even more exciting on a higher level.

I'm happy with it. First off, we don't know exactly what is in store. Command and conquer basically just remade the old series with C&C 3, they added 1 race, but they stuck to the old style and added a couple of things here and there. To me, that is a great game. I think SC2 will do it even better.

My only fear is that, yes, the graphics don't look amazing. That is not a problem to me right now, but I fear if the graphics don't look good now, and the game is over a year from coming out, how bad could it look by that time? I really hope the graphics get refined before it comes out or it comes out within 6 months.

And c&c 3 was great, for a lil while...then I put it down, because it was the same ol. They need to really break ground in some way more than walking over cliffs to really get me super excited. As it is, I'm looking forward to it, but I just don't see it as the second coming that I and everyone else is expecting.

I think it looks good as is, and I could care less about the gfx.

Blizzard has always been known to take their games, and tweak them to such perfection that everyone could really get into it, but with enough depth that pros could really make something out of it, WOW being a perfect example. With this it just seems like theyre catering to the hardcore, and not really pushing the accessibility they've always done in the past.

SC is such a defined standard that its like a genre of it's own. Theres no need to recreate it when it already exists.

there is a need to recreate IMO, SC only runs at 640x480 and is quite outdated...yes graphics don't mean everything, but they sure do help. I still think they will come out with a new race. As long as they keep the balance great, it will be quite a fun game.

I guess I also feel it won't be the same game because Blizzard does have a good track record with what they release. I just hope they don't bring heroes into the SC universe, keep WC3 and SC2 separate.
