Starcraft 2!

My heard stoped for couple secconds when i saw Starcraft2 on their website. There better be Xel'naga in there... Or a cross breed between zerg/protoss. And i hope the editor is as good as the warcraft3 and even better. I am crazy excited.

Well, looks like SC, I guess.

But it also looks like WC3 (i.e., like cartoons), almost completely; structures and units also seem way too large compared to the map. I would've preferred something like the CnC3 engine, which looks a lot sharper.

Hopefully they will have sorted out the graphics by release. Still, it's great they are still committed to SC, and I have no doubt they will come up with an awesome story.

Blizzard follows the same business model as it always did. To make games compatible with a wide range of computers. This same observation is why Wii is beating the PS3.

Is it me or does this look like Starcraft on top of Warcraft 3? If they are just going to use the W3 engine then wtf took so long? They should have just skinned this out and released it two years ago so this announcement could be for Diablo 3!

Oh, don't get me wrong about the graphics. I think they look fine and like most Blizz games they will look good for a long time because of their art style. I am just trying to figure out why you would wait so long to release a sure winner if you are doing nothing other than borrowing the foundation of Warcraft 3?

Obviously I have no idea if this is what they are doing but it sure looks like it in the screens. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over the graphics. If any of you can remember the launch of D2 you will remember how crappy we all thought it looked but the game was amazing.

Has there been confirmation that they are using the WCIII engine? I dont think its the same engine to be honest. Just looking at the swarm of zergling in a gameplay video i dont think the WCIII engine could flow like that. It may well be the same engine and theyre doing what EA did with c&c3 and heavily modifying it. But it wouldnt surprise me if it was a new engine, this is the most important game sequal of all time after all.

a few months ago (Yes, ive been following this with zeal) it was reported that Blizzard contracted the Havoc engine, and everyone assumed it was for a new MMORPG. Now, in the FAQ, the state its for starcraft2. This game wont play ANYTHING like WC3...

One concern I have is the viewing options...
IMO, the thing that made Starcraft so damn competitive, was its limitations. IT was almost like chess; there were few options, and everyone had the same ones. Allowing zoom, rotating camra angle etc create to many varibles IMO.

It's all about money. D2, SC, WC3 are all still popular titles. WoW is just a straight up cash cow for Blizzard. If they release too many games within a short period of time, they'll only be competing with themselves.

Starcraft wasn't bad, and this looks okay too. I just hope they steal some of the UI goodness from Supreme Commander. At least it wasn't World of Warcraft II.

The game will be compatible with DirectX 10, and we're still considering whether there will be exclusive DirectX 10 graphic effects, but the graphics engine will also be very scalable to ensure that a wide range of different systems will be capable of running StarCraft II. The new engine is also capable of rendering very large units, as well as large numbers of units on screen together. Havok physics have been integrated into the engine for added realism as well.

A lot of people have been waiting a long time for SC2. Video didn't look boring to me. I like Diablo 2 but that gets "boring" quickly with all the hack n slash. I'm glad it's not another Diablo.

Maybe it IS the WC3 engine, like how the early starcraft screenshots in PCGAMER were on the WC2 engine.

I've never played starcraft in any form. Maybe I should give it a shot.
