I hear yah, but my excitement for SC2 has really waned these last few years - I'll still buy it, but damn it's not cutting edge tech or anything, it's going to start looking old soon.
They're planning at least two more releases for Protoss and Zerg with more or less the same engine, by 2012 or thereabouts I think this will look dated.
Two points:
1) SC1 hasn't received a single graphical update in the 11+ years since it was released, yet still has a pretty huge player base on battlenet, and still looks decent. WoW is the same way. 5 years in, very few graphical updates and still looks good. Somehow Blizzard manages to design graphics that look pretty good despite their age, I wouldn't expect that to change. Plus, if the gameplay is good enough, people won't care about the graphics.
2) Having played SC2 at Blizzcon 2008, I can tell you that it's not going to look old anytime soon. It looks amazing. The screenshots don't do show you the liquid smooth animations. The entire thing looks absolutely incredible.
I've been impatiently tapping my foot for beta to start, as I have a key to play in it from the aforementioned Blizzcon. I got to play D3 there as well, and I would much rather have it come out first than SC2, but D3 has already been confirmed for 2011 at the earliest.
