Starcraft: Battles of Nostalgia

Boy the original Starcraft really is a great game...

Me and my buddies have been playing it over the past few weeks and I can not think of any strategy game that gives me that rush inside when the battle is about to break one way or the other. It is also one of the most finely balanced games that I can think of.

So anyway I was wondering if anyone on the forums would be interested in playing some games of SC at NORMAL SPEED...

I havent really played SC since years ago and I cant stand it how everyone now plays on ultra turbo mode on battle.net. It is just too fast and feels so wrong. Does anyone feel the same way?

Post here if you do so we can get some great battles of nostalgia going. I will play anyone on battle.net or hamachi. Let me know!

Normal speed lol.

I've never seen anyone play on Normal Speed ever. Its way too slow. Highest Speed is where the games at.

Everyone used to play at normal or Fast back in 1999 or when ever that was. But that was probably because so many peoples computers could barely run the game at Normal...

I have been wanting to play some lately. Just don't feel like getting destroyed online. I figured the only people playing online have been playing for the past 10 years.

Yep your exactly right, and they have been playing in fast mode. I just cant keep up. Maybe you will play me?

I don't ever remember that. Games were always at fastest, which wasn't really all that fast. Ladder games took place at normal or fast though. (I think it was locked)

Fastest speed is the way it really should be played. Just not on fastest maps. Oh man don't get me started on those.

I think I could adjust to fastest. The problem is the two guys I always play with only play normal so when I go play fastest it throws me off in the normal speed matches that I hate to lose against my buddies.

Maybe I will just try to convince them to do fastest so that I can enjoy battle.net.

Most online have been playing UMS games aka custom maps.

I hate the fastest-fastest fast-mode maps on fast mode... Everything goes faster than even fast. The koreans would kick our asses.

Anyway, no go.. I hate playing SC now.

I stopped playing Starcraft in 2005 because of school and I haven't gone back to it ever since.
I also stopped playing because the game started turning away from "fun" to one of "programming".
The only people who play Starcraft now are programmers.

Back then, my APM was ~120-130 and I was winning 90+% of Battle.net pubbie games.
I'm afraid to join any game because I probably suck ass now.

Every couple of months, I get back in the mood and install it again. Still fun in my opinion, although some of my friends just convinced me to order Wc3 for dota.

I usually stick to 3v3bgh or UMS. No mood to get started in ladder again.

reinstalled in recently, tons of fun but i wish the unit/production management was a bit better. the 12 units per group thing really sucks, especially if you're a zerg player.

top Korean SC progamers average 400 APM

I'd guess the average of a Korean SC progamer is 300-350 APM though with the lowest being around 250 APM

I started playing again. Last summer, I installed it and was going through all the missions again. Made it through all the original Terran missions, I think all of the Zerg, and all but one or two of the Protoss. I then picked up BroodWar and have made it through almost all the Protoss missions, almost all the Zerg, and half of the Terran.

I've only been playing it in spurts though. Recently reinstalled it and reloaded my profile....
