how big of a resolution does starcraft2 natively support? does starcraft2 scale correctly without any loss of quality (eye candy)?

using 23" with 0.26 pixel pitch as the baseline. upgrading to a 30" with 0.25 pixel pitch or to a 27" with 0.23 pixel pitch. the game camera viewing area should remain the same (since this is a RTS), however if the game engine have native support up to 1440p (or beyond). it should scale beautifully without any loss of eye candy. can someone who has both 22-24" 1080p monitor and a 27"-30" 1440p monitor confirm this.

on a technical level. are the sc2's texture quality high enough to support 2560x1440 resolution? without texture stretching.

I don't think 1440p gets any more viewing area than 1080p as to not give an advantage in multiplayer so I assume the textures just get stretched.

no, because if you could zoom out further you would be at an advantage. And they artificially limit how far out you can zoom so that people who spend time microing and making unit teams/groups/whatever they're called have an advantage. Which is one of the main reasons why I don't play it. That and the heavy micro'ing favoring engine that hands victory to whoever wants to develop carpool tunnel first.

It's BS , because all I wanted was SC1 at HD resolutions, IE, same pixel count, just full screen not 640/480 scaled.

in the old crt days with near perfect hardware scaling. there was no loss of eye candy between a 15" crt and a 21" crt. quality was exact same on both regardless of the source.

sc1 (with 640x480 texture) was exactly the same on both 21" (1600x1200) and 15" (1024x768). just that the 21" had identical larger everything (which was a nice bonus).

fast forward to today with panel technology with piss poor hardware scaling. software scaling has to take over. which means - sc2 must have texture to support 1440p. otherwise texture stretching will occur and image quality will take a hit.

that degrade in image quality is unacceptable - in considering upgrading from 23" 1080p to 30"/27" 1440p.

sc2 is one of the primary reason for this upgrade. wanting larger everything in sc2.

do have: 1600x900 on a 20" and 1920x1080 on a 23". both running at their native resolution.

sc2 does scale beautifully on both with identical camera framing. with the 23" having larger everything.

so hopefully someone can confirm this for me on a 30"/27" at 1440p.

the test setup is to have two machine. each with their different monitors/resolutions. run starcraft2 at their native resolution on each machine. machine one at 1440p (experimental machine). machine two at 1080p/900p/720p (control machine). both machine watch a replay together. pause the replay. report the findings.

lamedude.

that is great info. however that is not what i am looking for. what you posted is the aspect ratio. for those that are not aware how this works in sc2. height stays the same regardless of aspect ratio. only the width gets expanded.

notice how 16:9 (1920x1080) shows more of the map width. but the 16:10 (1920x1200) show lesser map width. yet we all know 16:10 is the larger resolution.

anyway. what I am looking for is the overall graphical image quality (aka eye candy) at 2560x1440. upgrading from 23" 1920x1080 to 30"/27" 2560x1440 in the very very near future.

need VERIFY that 2560x1440 to look exactly like 1920x1080. just everything bigger. no stretching or no distortion.

Stuff is 71% more detailed.

Size of objects do not change, but things are rendered at a finer detail. I haven't bother to compare quality of textures, but I don't see any problems when playing normally.
