Today was the anticipated launch date of the Stardust@home project. However, delays at the Johnson Space Center have forced us to delay the start until approximately April 5, 2006. Look to this space for future updates."

I'm really curious how this one will go. It's not like any other DC project we had so far as it requires active user participation. So the big players with PC farms won't be any better of than the regular one PC guy. This one will really ask for participants' dedication.

So... this isn't just a CPU processing data... it's individuals manually scanning images looking for dust impact evidence?

yeah, certainly not what I would consider DC in the sense that we crunch it here.

For me, this would be a personal activity with no competitative angle or 'team' stuff.

Just a cool thing to fiddle with in a spare moment or two.

This is due to security issues delaying the scanning of the Stardust Interstellar Dust Collector at Johnson Space Center in Houston. Scanning of the Stardust interstellar dust collector has finally begun at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX! We now have several steps to complete before we roll-out the project to the public. We will be performing a load test of our servers April 28-29. We need to begin uploading data from Houston and checking for focus problems. We'll be using the data from Houston to make calibration movies and examples for the training tutorial. Our target date for the roll-out of the project is May 17.

We thank you for your patience and do not foresee any further delays in the project."
