You should watch the Apple Infomercial for it. Besides having a bunch of men look like they are masterbating to the Ipad, they all are going off about how "The software has been TOTALLY redesigned from the ground resulting in not just 2x the experience but an ORDER OF MAGNITUDE difference" (no joke, that line is actually in there).

Heck, half of them looked like they where going to cry with how wonderful the Ipad is... (or how bad it sucks)

Do you know how revolutionary drop down menus are?

Frankly, this afternoon, I'm glad that I went ahead and bought an eee pc back in July. Yesterday I was kinda regretting it because I really like the idea of a tablet, but not so much, now.

And apple is doing everything in their power to make developers not want to develop for them.

Give it a while, and I can almost guarantee that android based phones will knock down the iphone.

As for the Ipad, Amazons kindle, sony's E-reader, ect have been around for a while, I doubt Apple will be able to compete for book selection.

Developers will develop as long as there is money to be made, and there will be money to be made from at minimum apple fans. Don't forget how fast the app store grew recently.

Amazon does currently have the E-reader section, but it it's just an e-reader. One of iPad's features is an e-reader. Apple already has deals with publishers like mcgraw hill. I don't see why they can't compete for a good share of that market.

I am not an apple fan, but I won't doubt that the iPad will be another success. It is the same formula after all.

I don't get it. It's literally just a big iPod touch. I already own an ipod touch, and I love it. The advantage is I can carry it with me in my pocket and use it whenever I feel like it. This thing I'd have to make plans to bring with me. And when I'm home my laptop is the way to go because it does little things like play flash, and multitask and is comfortable/easy to type on. Plus it sits a nice angle that makes it comfortable to use on my lap, I don't have to hold at 1.5 lbs device up to my face or look straight down at it.

Why anyone who already owns an iPhone or an iPod touch and a laptop would buy this is beyond me. It does some of what those devices do, and none of it better.

It's not a 4:3 or 16:9 screen. But it's like holding an HD movie to your face!

* 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
* 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)

So, like...
It's a "widescreen display"
but with 4:3 resolution...

What the FUCK is that going to do for content except make it look absolutely fucking TERRIBLE?

Amazon has a Kindle app for iPhone/iPod Touch. Assuming Apple doesn't decide to go exclusive and rip it out of the app store, why would you use the iBook version instead? If the books cost $15 instead of $10....with the possibility of transfering it to your Kindle if you ever get one....seriously, who would use iBook other than a fanboy?

I have a feeling I'm going to be seeing this on a top 10 list next year of "Blunders of 2010"

Here it is folks, the Apple iPad. The screen is gorgeous, tilting is responsive, and the thing is super thin. Still, if you've used the iPhone before -- and you can see the two devices side-by-side here -- there's not a lot of surprises here so far. Here are some initial thoughts on the iPad:

-It's not light. It feels pretty weighty in your hand.

-The screen is stunning, and it's 1024 x 768. Feels just like a huge iPhone in your hands.

-The speed of the CPU is something to be marveled at. It is blazingly fast from what we can tell. Webpages loaded up super fast, and scrolling was without a hiccup. Moving into and out of apps was a breeze. Everything flew.

-There's no multitasking at all. It's a real disappointment. All this power and very little you can do with it at once. No multitasking means no streaming Pandora when you're working in Pages... you can figure it out. It's a real setback for this device.

-The ebook implementation is about as close as you can get to reading without a stack of bound paper in your hand. The visual stuff really helps flesh out the experience. It may be just for show, but it counts here.

-No camera. None, nada. Zip. No video conferencing here folks. Hell, it doesn't have an SMS app!

-It's running iPhone OS 3.2.

-The keyboard is good, not great. Not quite as responsive as it looked in the demos.

-No Flash confirmed. So Hulu is out for you, folks!

This device is full of fail. Lack of tons of features STARTING at $500. This crap is a rip-off. All they did was make this a bigger iPhone. I still can't believe they didn't put multi-tasking on this device. This type of device needs it even more than the iPhone/Touch. I hate how Apple says what you can do on their devices. This is retarded.

I wonder how many people have actually read a book on an E Ink device? E Ink is infinitely better to read on any anything else, especially an LCD.

It reminds me of something.
A new device, in a new market area for Apple.
Missing lots of features.
Quite expensive.

I think it was called the iPhone?

They they fixed it up and released a 2.0 model that was a bit better.

I wonder how the story will go this time...

Also no one seems to remember how much the iPhone v1 sucked, but here's a hint:

Remember: Just because NOW the iPhone is a hot product doesn't mean Apple is always right. No one remembers the iPhone properly.

the iphone filled a need in the market (mass market, easy to use smart phone)

try as I might, I'm not seeing what role the ipad is going to fill.

not sure what you expect. imagine a 16:9 small sized tablet. it doesn't work, too narrow. you sacrifice one or the other, books, webpages apps and general interface require either 4:3 on a small screen or a very very large hdtv screen. or you sacrifice everything just to play video a tiny 16:9 would be comical, no place for a kb and a horrible joke for an ebook reader or anything else. look at half a narrow webpage or scroll like the dickens to see anything.

not so sure about the ebook ink. the issue is those ebook readers cost a large fraction of an ipads price already. have smaller screens and are generally less useful and pleasant to look at. if you are paying 200+ for some black and white screen in a lousy looking product you might want something more ebook readers are single function devices, justifying them outside a small yuppy crowd is rather difficult.

the ipad is underwhelming in some aspects mostly because people hyped themselves into thinking it would suck your dick when it came out. but you have to admit it makes the old ebook readers look rather obsolete. you seem to forget that a single task kindle costs from 259-500 depending on model. seriously, u got 500 dollars for a book reader, what do you buy? a kindle? lol

The crappy black and white screen is going to look better under a lot of light, like sunlight, than the iPad's (ugh what an awful name) LCD.

Funny, I have an iPhone v1 and I think it rocks. I'm out of contract now, and I see no improvement that merits re-upping my contract. I can run 100% of the software, I don't suffer without the slow ass ATT 3G network, and I have little use for GPS when I can make do with cell triangulation.

I already know someone frothing at the mouth to get the $820 one.

Edit: Then again, said person also goes out to buy the latest Apple product the day its released. Massive fangirlism.
