Starting Matlab today....

I am at my internship and they just put in matlab on my computer. This will be my first time ever using matlab.

Most of my experience has been in VB6, did some work in school with c and c++, had a little proejct in ada, can do sql, pl/sql.

Anything i should learn before touching matlab? What should a first time user be aquainted with first?

Um... what do they want you to do with it? It's not the easiest "language" to learn in matlab. I guess it depends on what they want you to do. Have you taken any numerical methods courses?

nope. They havn't really told me yet. But i was hired mainly to do GUIs, so i am expecting to do gui work for them.

Yes, I've heard that too.

Another thing is that Matlab is very picky about code portability between versions. I wrote my final project for an applied mathmatics class in Matlab 7, and it wouldn't run in the instructor's Matlab 6.5.

The help features in Matlab are pretty good; otherwise, use google to find examples.

wow matlab does suck when it comes to GUIs. Its powerful, but not very user friendly.
