Really only feel that way when I play multi-player games and it is happening more and more often these days. I never really feel old playing single player; I honestly don't find it much different than watching a movie or reading a book. It's just a hobby like any of those things, so no reason to feel old doing it.

I'm beginning to feel that way also. There are some games like Kerbal Space program that are fun, but the larger time sink games, like Firefall sometimes give me headaches when I play them.

Yep, happened to me as soon as I finished college. Got a mac mini and never looked back...

I think I just have less free time now and unfortunately gaming is one of the first things that gets cut from my to do list. I seem to have plenty of time to nef though... hmm...

I got a mac mini and returned it two days later.

Had I gone in that direction, I too would have likely given up on gaming.

I lost interest sometime after college started. I suppose for me it just wasn't very interesting once I got old enough to have other options.

Now I've played a few games through over the years and had fun. Really enjoyed fallout 3 but I'd never consider myself a regular gamer anymore. Games also seen to be getting worse and less interesting like they are made for the lowest common denominator american idol viewer type. Good business sense but stuff like call of duty just seems so mindless

My problem is that the genres I would want to play are either dead or restricted to one game.

I enjoy Arena-style FPS--think Unreal Tournament--but that genre has been dead for years--killed off by Epic Games and ID via disastrous sequels.

I also enjoy the Sins of a Solar Empire 4x-RTS but as far as I know there's nothing else like it out there.

I also enjoyed Neverwinter Nights online Dungeons & Dragons game and as far as I know there's nothing else out there like it, at least nothing that's free-to-play. Bioware ended that genre with the release of the consolized Dragon Age which didn't offer online multiplayer.

I don't know if it's that I'm too old to game, or if it's just that I don't have any games to look forward to, or both.

This thread made me realize that I am getting too old for gaming as well. But I do like to stay up to date on technology.

Not owning the fastest, biggest and baddest products, but at least be well educated.

My gaming has plumeted these past few months and I'm 34. I still buy games though, not sure why. I get excited purchasing it, play it for maybe an hour, then move on...

Starting to find other things much more entertaining. For example I'd much rather fly my RC plane than any video game.

I started gaming when I was 6 with my nintendo... Street Figher II in middle school... and I got into PC gaming with my PowerMac 6100 playing Marathon against my buddy who had a more powerful PowerMac = for the longest time it was just me vs him in FPS game... then Counter Strike and Day of Defeat came out and I went at it until i was 23 and I got out of gaming and PC upgrades...

And I got back at it when i turned 30... Now I'm 32 and I just upgraded to Ivy bridge, GTX 670, and SSD...

One thing I've noticed is far less desire and ability to "binge game".

Pretty much gone are the days from my very early 20s and late teens where I could and would look forward to playing games for hours on end. I'd sit down with one (good) game for 3, 4, sometimes 5 hours at a time.
Or if I had a bunch of free time, spend most of it gaming. Play one game for 2 hours, switch to another for an hour or two, pop in another for 2 hours after that, with only a few quick breaks in between.

Those days are pretty much gone. Sure, games like Civ or other deep, involving strategy games MIGHT hold my interest for a couple of hours.

But now, after usually no more than an hour or hour and half, I'm simply ready to move on to another activity.

lol - same here. i had to double check to make sure it wasnt me that wrote the above.
I too started back in my 20's but in those days Pong and Intellivision were new

I miss the days of "stand-alone" games. Single player games that you could play for hours and not need to be connected to the net to play. Just ticks me off when (the few times) my internet was down and i cant even play a single player game.

But gone are the days of Early EQ1 when i played every single waking/not working minute. Where i would get up at 6am on weekends and play solid until 11pm with barely a break for washroom/food.

55yo now and still playin. tho these days its mostly mmog - main 3 now are WoW-EQ2 and SW-TOR. Pretty much stopped playing/buying "single player" games because of the DRM and Steam-Origin etc BS.

Also hated the always need the CD/DVD always in the drive to play. Is why i started buying games from Direct 2 Drive as there was none of that.

Just celebrated my 50th by building a new computer for the sole purpose of gaming. I find that I actually game more now than I did 10 years ago especially now that the kids are out of the house and I rarely work more than 35-40 hours a week anymore.

There was a time when I did not game at all but that was only because of work and family obligations... I've always been a gamer for as long as I can remember.

For me I don't feel the need to justify it when people point it out that "a grown man gaming?...tsk" as it is something I enjoy doing. Most people sit around for hours watching sports on tv (which I have no interest in)- what's the difference between that and me gaming for a couple of hours? Absolutely nothing.

Well, I am well over 50 and still interested in gaming. Dont really see what age has to do with it. As a matter of fact, I can see gaming more as one gets older. Kids/grandkids leave the house, less job pressure, dont play sports as much, etc. I have to admit though that after gaming for many years, I dont get the excitement that I got playing a really good game like KOTOR for the first time.
