How about an Altima or something?

Good size, not that expensive, reliable especially with the 3.5 V6, and very powerful. A great all rounder. I've had an Altima and a Maxima now and I like them both a lot for overall driving experience.

The Prius is a nice piece of technology but in practical terms it is a pile of shit. It's about $7,000 more expensive than my Corolla but it accelerates slower, has a lower maximum speed, has absolutely no towing abilities, and it looks horrible.
The Prius is quite advanced and has some features only found in the upper echelon of vehicles. Have you even had the chance to rent or own one of these vehicles? I think most people hate on the Prius for absolutely no reason and I actually used to be one of those people as well. Seriously, I used to not like the Prius but after renting an older Prius and doing the calculations, it's really the best most practical "green" car you can get. If you think the '04-'09 Prius sucks, you should check out the 2010 Prius, it's a lot better..

As for you comparing the Prius to the Corolla, that's hilarious because not only can the Corolla not tow shit either but it gets worse mileage, has worse driving dynamics (the '10 Corolla handles WORSE than the '10 Prius IIRC), doesn't advanced technologies that are usually only found in $50K cars, the Corolla is a compact car while the Prius is a midsize car, there is really no comparison at all. That'd be like me complaining about the Ford Focus being a really crappy Honda Accord, they're not even in the same league! There is a hell of a lot more room in a Prius than there is in a Corolla.. It's laughable that you would compare a Prius with a Corolla.

jesus christ, do you own toyota stocks? assholes like you make me want to buy a bronco with straight exhaust and drive balls to the wall wherever i go.
I'm an asshole for suggesting the purchase of a Prius? Are you retarded? Apparently so..

I wonder what MPG this baby gets.
More than your bronco after it crushes it.

What the fuck do you not understand about the guy not wanting a damn prius?
The guy said he did not want a Prius because he drove his parents Prius which is obviously an older Prius.. I told him to try the latest Prius because it is significantly better car.. Don't judge a car until you've tried it and from what I hear from people, a lot of people are being prejudice against this car. There were a LOT of things I didn't like about the '04-'09 Prius but I was able to look past them once I saw how great of mileage one can get from the car. From what I know, the '10 Prius is suppose to fix most of the "problems" with the old Prius, so if that's true, then it'd be a pretty damn good car. With that said, I probably won't own a Prius because I can't afford a new car and I don't like automatic transmissions.

What the fuck are you talking about? This guy responded to this thread ONCE and hasn't replied since then.. He said he doesn't want a Prius because of his parents Prius, I said try the latest Prius and nothing has been said since then. All that has been said in this thread are people's own suggestions and other people ranting about how the OP doesn't want a Prius even though the OP didn't respond to my suggestion about the '10 Prius.

The OP wants a car that's fun to drive and sporty. There is no possible way that anyone with a functioning brain could imagine that the Prius fits that criterion.

As for the 2010 Prius being so much better, let's see what the reviews are saying...

Edmunds:
Awkward driving position, disappointing interior materials...

headroom has been reduced by a fraction of an inch...taller rear seat occupants had their hair grazing the roof, and that wasn't the case before.

the Prius still isn't exactly fun to drive

The Truth About Cars:
If Ralph Nader had been an engineer, this is the car he would have designed, a vehicle for people who loathe automobiles.

The new interior is swathed in low rent plastics which emit nauseating vapors, leather seats (if so equipped) that made me long for Naugahyde and gauges which were not only situated well out of sightlines, but rendered in a primitive digital manner which were indecipherable even up close.

The 2010 Prius’ ergonomics were designed for only two kinds of creatures: those who like to sit five inches back from the front windshield and orangutans. Everyone else will find that the steering wheel, adjustable now for tilt and reach, is still too far away for a proper seat position.

The driving experience was engineered by faeries. There is an Unbelievable Lightness of Steering, flagrant disregard for handling and a general sense that you are not in a car at all but some anti-gravity device which yaws and rolls without regard for normal physics. I would rather visit my dentist than drive the Prius again—at least he gives me laughing gas.

The car defaults to its economy mode to start, which makes it impossible to make it up my driveway or escape the neighbor’s kids on their bikes.

The Prius is the anti-car and no manner of sport package or aftermarket modification can transmogrify the eco-worrier [sic] into anything resembling an automobile.

Does even a single tiny bit of that sound like the Prius is a good recommendation for someone who wants a car that is even the littlest bit sporty? Of course not. A person would have to be entirely brain-dead to recommend the Prius to someone who wanted a "sporty" car.

The Prius gets great mileage and if that's the only thing you care about, it's a passable transportation option, but if you want even the slightest bit of driver engagement, the Prius is a horrible choice.

With that said, I probably won't own a Prius because I can't afford a new car and I don't like automatic transmissions.

In other words, you're recommending a car you wouldn't personally own. This is telling. You're perfectly happy to tell other people that they should make the sacrifices that you're personally unwilling to make.

If you want a "sporty vehicle", you don't buy an SUV, Crossover or a wagon, that'd be ridiculous. I don't care how "sporty" you think your suv is, it's not and if you drive it like that, you're putting everybody around you at risk.http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/review-2010-toyota-prius/

I don't like automatic transmissions which most cars have and the OP obviously wants. If it weren't for the fact that the Prius is a new car with an automatic transmission, I'd be all over it. Just because I'm not a woman, doesn't mean I'm not going to tell my daughter to get tampons when she starts getting her period.. The Prius fits the bill for a lot of people and if you're someone who finds themselves crawling in stop and go traffic, then the Prius is an exceptional vehicle that will save you a lot more gas than one would expect.

Did you even read the OP?

so gas mileage is important but not my #1 factor

Would like it to be reliable, sporty, comfortable ride, quiet ride and enough room to fit a decent amount of stuff.

Any recs?

If MPG isn't the most important factor and you want something sporty, who in their right mind would recommend a fucking Prius?

There are plenty of SUVs and wagons that are sporty. Hell, I can't think of a modern consumer vehicle that's less sporty than a Prius. Not to mention it looks worse than an aborted elephant fetus.

Well if you're buying a small SUV, crossover, or wagon, you're already not in the right mind so it's no surprise that they would think those vehicles are "sporty".. "throwing" you back in your seat doesn't mean "sporty". Also a vehicle that can really throw you back in your seat probably isn't going to get acceptable mileage or is going to have a transmission that will prematurely fail.. ask me how I know

I guarantee you that the Mazda CX-9 is several orders of magnitude more "sporty" than a Prius. You don't have to drive it hard to feel the difference. It's obvious within the first minute of driving. It's quite obvious that you have no concept of a vehicle's "feel". The Prius is numb. The entire car reeks of somnolence. Even at perfectly safe and sane speeds the CX-9 will be feeding the driver more information and will be a more engaging drive.

In short, just because you are sufficiently incompetent that you can't tell the difference at normal speeds doesn't mean that everyone is.

But you wouldn't buy it because you're not willing to make the sacrifice of having an automatic in order to save that gas. You're asking the OP to sacrifice an engaging driving experience though. You are not willing to sacrifice just to save gas, yet you think everyone else should.

Crawl back into your hole.

Spare me.. If you're driving a vehicle "normally", you certainly shouldn't be able to notice anything.. Notice how I said normally, it's possible these people are driving too fast for the conditions. Just because you don't spin out and don't crash, doesn't mean you're not driving too fast. It's a 2 ton SUV, I don't care how much you modify the suspension, it's just not safe to drive these things "hard' and you are indeed putting everyone around you at risk. To drive these things how they really should be driven would make them no better than the Prius, I can say that much.

For a lot of people, their requirement for a car that is "fast enough" is this: Does it throw me back in my seat? and.. how quickly can I throw myself across the passenger cabin? Again, it's a useless metric because you shouldn't be driving like that in your everyday driving, especially in an SUV. It's completely irresponsible to be driving these behemoths in such a way. This is coming from a person that owns a few trucks himself.. If you want to drive a car in a "sporty manner", get a sports car..to do it in an SUV is irresponsible and wrong on many levels.

Wrong. Simply wrong.

You may not be able to tell the difference between communicative steering and numb steering. You may not be able to feel the differences in cornering even when you're fully obeying the yellow signs. But just because you're incompetent doesn't mean everyone else is.

If I take my 951 out, at 55 mph, the posted speed limit on my road, and then immediately take my T5 out at the exact same speed, the difference is absolutely obvious. Anyone with half a brain can figure out the difference.

Notice how I said normally, it's possible these people are driving too fast for the conditions. Just because you don't spin out and don't crash, doesn't mean you're not driving too fast. To drive these things how they really should be driven would make them no better than the Prius, I can say that much.

Again, you clearly have absolutely zero concept of "feel". You don't have to drive hard to tell whether a car has good feel or is numb. Only persons with pathetically limited driving experience can't notice those differences at normal speeds.

For a lot of people, their requirement for a car that is "fast enough" is this: Does it throw me back in my seat? and.. how quickly can I throw myself across the passenger cabin? I thought you drove your daddy's Volvo, fleabag. Or was it that you're still driving your Civic? I can never remember. You've claimed to drive so many different vehicles over the years.

Unless you are now adding an Insight to the list of vehicles you claim you drive, this simply isn't true.

Just because you wet yourself every time you turn a corner, it doesn't mean others are so hypersensitive. I can appreciate nice cars, but I'm not so sensitive as to be able to tell the difference between 1200 and 2000 thread count cotton..maybe you can.. sucks for you I guess cause that means you're pretty much never happy with anything you have.

The fact that you even own a 951 shows how unbelievably spoiled you are when it comes to cars.. You obviously own or at least have driven some very nice cars and so anything less than that is garbage.. This is why your opinion is useless. You're far too discerning which is completely unnecessary for most people. Most people's perception of how things are are from douchebags such as yourself critiquing every infinitesimal detail that most people aren't even aware of.

People who buy expensive cars have little care or attention for detail, all they're capable of doing is reciting the facts about the car from some reviewer or brochure. Since this is how most people are, this means that in a vacuum, without any outside opinions influencing their own opinion, they'd probably find most cars on the road fairly acceptable. Most people are NOT gear heads, so why even bother correlating people who drive a Prius to not being a gear head?

I thought you drove your daddy's Volvo, fleabag. Or was it that you're still driving your Civic? I can never remember. You've claimed to drive so many different vehicles over the years.
quit calling me a fleabag, it's really irritating.. I don't know where you picked up this habit of calling people fleabags but it needs to stop. Also I never said I owned a Volvo so I don't know what you're talking about...

Unless you are now adding an Insight to the list of vehicles you claim you drive, this simply isn't true.
I own an '88 CRX HF, it gets very good mileage and I'm quite happy with how it drives. I'm thinking about swapping in a D15Z1 into it for a performance boost.

Actually, I was very happy with the CX-9 I drove, which is why I recommended it. Given the OP's criteria, it's a solid choice, though a little larger than he may be looking for, which is why the CX-7 was also recommended for him to look at. Those are "less" than the 951 from handling and feel, but they're fantastic given the other types he's looking at.

See, unlike your blind shilling for the Prius, I actually took the OP's criteria into account when I made my recommendation. That's why I didn't tell him to go out and find a 10-year-old BMW 540i Wagon (which is what I would do). You, on the other hand, ignored what the OP wanted and have continued to do so throughout the thread.

People who buy expensive cars have little care or attention for detail, all they're capable of doing is reciting the facts about the car from some reviewer or brochure.

Good thing for me that the 951 isn't expensive. Or is a $7,500 car "expensive" in your world?

Also, this directly contradicts your previous statement. Pick an argument and stick with it. You're trying to say that I am somehow simultaneously "too discerning" while also having "little care or attention to detail". These are mutually exclusive. When you start writing your college application essays in a couple of years, I really hope you construct your arguments more solidly.

I could say, word for word, exactly what you've said about the Mazdas as I can about the Prius. There is nothing economical about any of the vehicles listed in this thread and since fuel economy is priority #2, I'd imagine the OP wants something that gets better MPGs better than in the 20s..

It is an expensive car, old expensive cars are still expensive cars..

The whole point was that it seems you have high end devices and then when you come across a low end device, it's automatically "a piece of crap". Your let your prejudice decide your opinion even as you're using the device, constantly reinforcing your ideas while pretending to actually be open about it.

I think we both know you'll never get around to that.
You don't even know who I am. Just because you're a snobby brat who drives expensive cars and thinks you have any business reviewing vehicles, it doesn't mean you actually do. The OP has responded to this thread once, and it merely stated he didn't like his grandparents Prius.. You people are inferring too much and are blinded by your seething hatred for the Prius and all the things it represents. It's idiots like you that make me begrudgingly like what the libtards are doing in congress. Nobody wants to willfully make responsible choices so in the end, their choices are going to be made for them.

Actually, he never says it's number two and the phrasing suggests that it's relatively low. His comments indicate that he just doesn't want to end up with something that is significantly worse than other things in its class.

He gave reasons for not wanting a Prius and I have amply pointed out that those reasons are all still legitimate despite the 2010 redesign. Unless you have something other than fuel mileage to point to, the OP has already dismissed your suggestion.

Which is clearly why I recommended the Mazdas or why I've often recommended the Ford Fusion, the Ford Focus, and even the Chevy Malibu. Or why, when my friend asked for a recommendation for an inexpensive crossover with enough space to carry her two great danes, I recommended a Kia Sorento.

Yeah, unless it's a Porsche, I obviously think it's a piece of crap.

You don't even know who I am. Just because you're a snobby brat who drives expensive cars and thinks you have any business reviewing vehicles, it doesn't mean you actually do. The OP has responded to this thread once, and it merely stated he didn't like his grandparents Prius..

The OP has only responded to this thread once. Doesn't mean you're right about the rest though.

It's idiots like you that make me begrudgingly like what the libtards are doing in congress. Nobody wants to willfully make responsible choices so in the end, their choices are going to be made for them.
