What I find stupid about this game is that the lasers have spread like bullets..wtf? Also the flight mechanics are pretty terrible. No server browser, small maps, no class variation, no adjustable sensitivity for turrets, lack of party indicators (makes group gaming worthless), etc. etc. yeah this game is going to fail hard after people get it out of their systems after 1-2 weeks. That's probably why they're keeping this "beta" short and sweet. I'm glad they let us play it before retail, this game will be an Origin $10-20 sale purchase for me if it still has people playing it by then.

My agreement with most of this notwithstanding, if a laser gun was real, why wouldn't it have spread? Can YOU hold a gun in the exact same position, shot after shot?

Now this is a game!

After being on a hiatus from gaming when I had a much weaker video card, I started gaming again recently with Metal Gear Solid V (which came with my new video card) and was thoroughly disappointed in the gameplay mostly because it would not allow me to use my own key mappings, so I wasted money on a controller with which I find it hard to game. I wasn't sure about sinking money into lame games.

But along came this beta, and it is a proper game that allows me to customize the interface. The gameplay is entertaining and exciting, and the visuals are absolutely stunning in a creative yet familiar environment.

I saw Star Wars in its first run at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood when I was fifteen. I never imagined that I'd be able to interact with it in such a realistic way. Bravo!

Im glad you like it and are back in the PC gaming saddle, but perhaps should try some other modern games, because this one is pretty "meh" to most of us here. BF4 for example is customizable out the wazoo and blows Battlefront out of the water in all other aspects, unless you are only into the sci-fi stuff.

If it didn't have the star wars skin everyone would be panning the game. A lot of people are really hyped up over star wars though.

Don't forget there has also been other Battlefront games that were enjoyable.

Yah, but it seems like every other week there has been an announcement about a feature that was in the original that isn't in this version.

Personally if I wanted campaigns I'd much rather have a (Republic) Commando remake; when it comes to online play even the original Battlefronts were often compared to/overshadowed by the Battlefield series, especially now they're trying to charge $60 for only 7 multiplayer static maps really doesn't grab my interest.

It is kind of a big deal...

I admit it was a big deal to me in 1977, (I was six) but I guess I've kinda outgrown my infatuation with it. Besides, just because something has Star Wars in the title doesn't automatically make it great.

I will be buying it for my 12 yr. old son because he, like I in 1977, is excited about it and can overlook the game's shortcomings. I'll get a good look at it as he plays and see how all the DLC stuff is handled, then decide if I want to purchase later as the prices come down.

For those that have the beta. Whenever you start a game is it a new round or does it drop you into games already in progress? Anyone try playing with a party? Does it put you all on the same side?

You can invite a friend to be your team mate. I was playing with two friends and it pulled us into the same game. Usually you can get put in a game that's already started if it didn't already.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I enjoy Bad Company 2 and I despise BF3/4. It's practically impossible to pick up and enjoy without getting squashed by everyone else immediately.

I'm basically right there with you (only a few years younger). This game having none of the prequel crap is a doing wonders for my nostalgia though, and also watching an 11-year old lose his mind playing doubled the positive feelings I had for it.

I spend a fair amount of time in TF2 lately, so simple and mindless shooter painted in Star Wars is just not a bad thing to me. I may be getting too busy to care more about deeper shooters though. I'm pretty worn out on BF4, personally.

I liked BC2 okay, but if only it had prone and the ability to strafe run I would have loved it. I always felt like I was "stuck in mud" while on foot in that game, I like the faster pace of BF3 and 4.

Yeah watching and hearing the excitement of the kids as they play is awesome.

I felt like I was shooting at cardboard cutouts.

Though I will say this.. DICE has finally figured out the right tick rate, maybe BF5 has hope of not being a netcode nightmare.

Battlefield nonsense did an episode evaluating the netcode of SWBF3. It was pretty comparable to the current 30hz retail BF4. So they have posted most of the netcode improvements. BF4 CTE with high tickrate servers is still substantially better, but I bet that gets patched in once it gets the green light on BF4. You can bet all the tuning and netcode will be rolled into BF5 (or 2143!) whenever it comes out. The only reason BF4 has received such extended support is so it can benefit future frostbite 3 games.

Because Star Wars! I always assumed they were plasma guns or something similar. Even the name "blaster" sounds like it would kick back

I will be playing it simply because I am worn out on BF4. It doesn't have to be hugely in depth, just give me something new to look at. The rest of my crew will be playing CoDuty:BO3, and I refuse to go back to CoD, ever.

For those interested:

"Instead of firing a coherent beam of light like the archaic laser, the blaster fired a compressed, focused, high-energy particle-beam that was very destructive, commonly referred to as a "bolt." Generating the bolt relied on two components: a gas cartridge filled with an energy-rich blaster gas (typically Tibanna) and a power pack. When the blaster was fired, a small amount of gas moved from the cartridge through the Heter valve into the gas conversion enabler chamber, commonly called the "XCiter". In this chamber, the power pack energized the gas, before it passed into the actuating blaster module, where the now extremely high-energy gas was transformed into a compressed beam of intense energy particles, coupled with intense light. The particle beam was then focused through a prismatic crystal or a similar device, which generated a deadly high-energy particle beam, fired from the emitter nozzle as a bolt of glowing energy. The color of the bolt depended on the gas used and the type of focusing device, and could vary from red to blue to orange to white."

The game looks great but I'm still not sold on the gameplay.

If the locations were randomized it'd be better, would prevent people from just hanging around so they can pick up the Bubba Feets hero or whatever

That or just make them physical objects. Like an ammo dump you get a grenade or blaster or whatever out of. Floating power ups just looks dumb. Plus just having them in the middle of a field means the enemy can sit and camp everyone coming to get the fighter powerups.
