Love the Texas tax free holiday. I refer to it as the "weekend to stock up on socks and underwear"!! LOL

Best time to buy clothing, that's for sure!

Also no tax on unprepared food items everday.

yep I never realized some states would tax a steak or spareribs or a peach. I found this out when looking at a possible move to Virginia they have a food tax on most any food if not all food.

http://www.taxrates.com/blog/2013/02/28/retailers-guide-to-sales-tax-holidays-in-2013/

from above

"...Louisiana: Sales tax holiday on hurricane preparedness items in May. Sales tax holiday on “most individual items of tangible personal property” in August; and a sales tax holiday on firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies in September. ..."

can't find any info for SC, but I only spent about 5 mins with bing + google.

Why would it be a joke? If you don't like or want guns in PA, then stay there, but down south we like our firearms. I might just have to use this opportunity to buy a new shotgun; I have had my eyes on a Mossberg 590A1 Pump to use for Home Defense/Zombie protection.

In Missouri, some of the local towns and counties opt out of the tax holiday and still charge their local taxes. You do not pay the 4.225% state sales tax, but you will pay 2.5% to 4.5% depending on the locality.

Heh, back to school items, ftw.

SC resident.

South Carolina's Tax Free Weekend Event:

South Carolina's Tax Free Weekend is scheduled August 2-4, 2013. The tax-free savings applies to the following items:

  • Clothing
  • Accessories
  • Footwear
  • School supplies
  • Computers
Laptop just crapped out. Wonder if the wife can wait that long.

Then look at it like this, a considerable number of Southern residents rely on hunting to supplement their food supply, Louisiana is the "Sportsman's Paradise".

And as for "Sex Toy Sunday", don't be ridiculous! Our sex shops aren't even open on Sundays! Besides you can order better items from Amazon for cheaper than the el-cheapo stuff the local stores carry.

Got an e-mail tonight, from the Texas state comptroller's office. They moved back the dates for the Texas tax-free weekend by one week:

The recent passage of Senate Bill 485 (83rd Regular Legislative Session, 2013) changes the dates of this year's annual Sales Tax Holiday to Aug. 9-11, a week earlier than previously scheduled. The law became effective immediately.

The Sales Tax Holiday gives Texas shoppers a break from state and local sales taxes on most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100. Shoppers can save up to $8.25 for every $100 they spend.

Publication 98-490, Sales Tax Holiday/Tax-Free Weekend and Rule 3.365, Sales Tax Holiday - Clothing, Shoes and School Supplies tell you what you need to know.

"Walmart Stores (WMT) is emerging as the pricing bully in this year’s back-to-school shopping game. Its U.S. locations are already fully stocked with crayons, crates, stationery, and pencil sharpeners in school-shopping displays, and a new analysis from Bloomberg Industries found prices 10 percent cheaper on average than similar wares at Target (TGT).

The gap between Walmart and Target, its nearest rival in terms of price, looks like parity compared with Walmart’s drastic discounts over other major retailers vying for back-to-school revenue. The report, based on shopping for a basket of about 50 identical goods, put Walmart’s prices 50 percent lower than those at Sears (SHLD)-owned Kmart stores and 45 percent lower than Staples (SPLS)."

I was hoping to snag the new Nexus 7 from Staples using their $30. off tablet coupon (used the coupon without the new Nexus 7 exemption SKUs on it) but got denied at 2 different Staples.

So I'll wait until August 2nd. In TN the sales tax in my county is 9.75% so this will help. Not sure if this will work online on August 2nd with ShopDiscover to get an additional 5% discount.

I can also order it from Amazon. No sales tax yet in TN.
