NH: no sales tax to begin with.

Property taxes make up for it, though. :frown:

Typical liberal reply. Maybe they should raise taxes on school supplies and the such. Yea yea,.....raise the taxes some more. Muuhahaha
umm... right... because money issues have everything to do with being liberal or conservative

Finally! The voice of reason. For most states, it's all relative. Pay less sales tax and pay more taxes in other areas. The state is going to get money out of people some way or another.

At least you have no state income tax. California we have 1-9.3% income tax (depending on tax bracket, I believe average is around 4% last I checked).

California state sales tax is 6%, but in nearly every county/city it is higher. Where I live sales tax is 8.25%. Alameda county is 8.75%, but most counties/cities are between 7.25 and 8.25.

The average Californian is paying probably 4 + 7.5% = 11.5% tax. Most food isn't taxed, but a lot of things have additional tax: property, cars, gas, alcohol, hotels, and plane tickets are some examples.

Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items as defined by the statute, will be exempt from sales tax for this time period only.

Full text of statute? First I've heard of a tax-free day.
