Raise your hand if you think Trump hasn't done coke off a hooker's ass.

Raise your hand if you think politicians who legislate morality aren't almost invariably hypocrites.

The laws get passed anyway, 'cuz familyvaluestoughoncrimeruleoflawandorderwhargarbl plays well with the too-drunk-to-remember-being-an-adulterer-while-high-on-prescription-meds-but-marijuana-is-the-real-problem crowd.

I always find it funny when GoP'ers are always saying "we want less government", yet they are always the ones wanting to tell women how to plan a family, and for people to use a recreational drug.

And how to buy a health plan that costs them hundreds of dollars a month, no wait that's Dems.

Wonder how this will affect Canada's impending legalization of MJ. That's a lot more suppliers with better and longer growing conditions -- looking at you California.

Not sure what you're getting at, but MMJ growers/investors have been scooping up hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate in preparation for this. All indoors, 24/7/365 growing.

Just one example:
http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-marijuana-cultivation-20160510-story.html

People in Canada were suggesting that legalizing marijuana would create jobs. But if big chunks of the U.S., especially California, can legally grow the shit outdoors without grow-ops (cheaper outside?), how does frosty Canada compete -- TV suggests people in Cali have been growing it outdoors.

Looks like dat weed can't legally cross state lines right now, so doesn't look like it's an issue yet. And I just remembered that current laws may require the MJ to be grown inside a secured building/area.

It's definitely cheaper outside but the high grade shit in CA is all grown indoors - more consistency, more grows per year, less issues. Of course the wholesale price is enough to cover the cost of real estate and electricity. Id imagine economics would be similar in Canada?

Government telling women how to plan a family? How about people making babies be responsible in the first place?

Yet many of us live in the real world. Teen pregnancies are highest in the Bible belt which teach abstinence. Sorry but trying to teach abstinence is proven not to work.

Federal law enforcement relies very heavily on local law enforcement. If state and local officials don't cooperate then federal enforcement will be sparse.

True, but that all depends on who the AG will be and how heavy handed Washington wants to be. I know it will be a fight here in Colorado the hundreds of millions of tax money getting injected into low population schools and other public projects across the state is highly popular.

Perhaps, perhaps not. For example, my state just voted to legalize for recreational purposes. I live in the state capital. I have, in the past, had reason to speak with the FBI for... reasons. How many federal agents are assigned to my town, the state capital? Zero. In fact the agent I spoke with had to come from another state entirely. Unless the federal government wants to dedicate quite a bit more money than it currently does enforcement essentially will be only with the cooperation of the local sheriff.

When the feds want the state to do something and the state says no, there are usually threats of taking away federal funding for projects.
How do you take away if a state is contributing more than it receives? Does that give the state the right to then just point and laugh?

It was a failed attempt to make affordable healthcare accessable to the masses that could not afford it. Good in thought, poor in execution. At least they were trying.

It's also a "Dem" stance to provide free sexual health screening and information/services to the masses who couldn't afford it otherwise, ie planned parenthood. How can a woman who's trying "to be responsible" go get birth control if she's poor and a place like Planned Parenthood gets shut down? The whole GoP stance of "just go get a job ya bum!" doesn't really help anybody. Then couple that with no health insurance/no way to accommodate unplanned pregnancy and we will just continue to pump out children to mothers who have no way to afford them.

They have been building acres of greenhouses here in Canada, even the largest (?) pharmacy in Canada has applied to sell it.

did you ask him how many DEA agents were in the area? FBI rarely gets involved with pot growers anymore.

It's supposed to be on track to being legal next year some time. I haven't touched it since university, don't really see myself smoking it again now, who knows though maybe once in a while instead of beer with a backyard BBQ. I'm really looking forward to just seeing it in general. Shoppers Drug Mart (big pharmacy chain here) with a bunch of weed on the shelves. Will just be a really interesting change.

I'm also interested to see how much effect it has on criminal enterprise when the marijuana cash they were making dries up, how much we save on policing it and incarcerating people for it and if in the future we hopefully move to legalizing more drugs with eventually doing away with any drug being criminalized.

From what I've been reading, the legalization that's taken place already has caused an uptick in the heroin market.

That's down right asinine. How are the police unions going to afford to operate? How do you expect prison guards to make a living? Those poor businesses that only exist to incarcerate people for a profit. And the children. Ohhh the poor children that will have to starve when their parents can't work.

Recreational marijuana legalization and medical marijuana reform do well when on ballots on their own. I think Obama stayed out of the way because he saw the writing on the wall. Pretty good chance the GOP will do the same. The country is slowly but surely turning pro-pot. Why waste the political capital on that particular fight? There's not a whole lot of upside to making that a focus.

For eastern Kentucky/West Virginia coal miners out of work, legalize pot and put them into the pot growing business. It's already KY's biggest cash crop. If it was a legal industry there's jobs and money to be had there.
