We may be reaching the tipping point where the legit cash generated from legal pot sales outweighs the jobs created for cops, prosecutors, jailers, probation officers, courts, etc. in prosecuting pot. Twenty percent of the US population now lives in states where recreational pot is legal. I don't see Trump going after it-he may even promote action to legalize it federally. After all he is a well experienced NYC party animal, I'm sure he has at least seen others use it for decades now.

The fly in the ointment is Chris Christie who has been talked about as a potential Attorney General. There isn't a bigger anti-pot guy than Christie. He's right out of the gateway drug we need to protect the kids mold as any 1950s high school public service announcement movie.

I think you failed to understand, if you think it was a "gateway drug" reference. Still can't be arsed to dig up the sources, but I was referring to the black market trying to make up their losses in the marijuana market by focusing on getting more cheap heroin on the street.

The heroin epidemic is clearly and indisputably tied to prescription painkillers. People who got addicted to Oxy and other opiates are the primary customers for heroin, the market sprang up to service them.

It's supply and demand. the demand is there, so the supply chain attempts to keep up.

I understand what you're saying, but this problem existed prior to legalization of MJ. and much of the mj on the black market was homegrown in the good ole USA anyways

The problem has been compounded by the increase in scripts for opioid pain relief, and even more so by the availability of cheaper opiates.

The current status of drugs in our society also contributes to deaths caused by overdoses.
